Stephen Colbert made a segment on a recent episode of The Colbert Report highlighting bull fighting and the accident involving well known bull fighter Julio Aparicio being critically injured when the bull thrust his horn through Aparicio’s neck, which then poked through the matador’s mouth.

“A word of warning to my sensitive viewers. I’m about to show you a bull fight so gory that a bull’s horn comes out of his mouth,” Colbert says. “If you have young children…bring them into the room. Unless you want them to be bull fighters.”

Colbert does offer condolences and hopes Aparicio gets well and that he owns a “lot of turtle necks.”

Local politicians in the Catalonia region of Spain are set to vote on a proposal that would ban the bloody and cruel sport.

Megan Mullally is 51 and proud of it!

The actress who’s appeared in Will & Grace, 30 Rock and New Adventures of Old Christine says she tries to eat organic whenever possible, though that’s not always easy, depending on where she’s living.

“I try to eat all organic foods, but I’m not rigid about it. I’m going to visit my mother, and I don’t think organic food has hit Oklahoma City yet,” she told Parade. “Let’s see, I never have caffeine. I drink water, herbal tea, and juice.”

A 1986 article in the Ludington Daily News revealed the Oklahoma raised Mullally followed a mostly vegetarian diet.

“I try to eat well whenever possible,” she said. “I’ll have some chicken and fish, although I’m mostly vegetarian. I like lots of grains and potatoes, too.”

Serena Palumbo is a contestant on this seasons’ “The Next Food Network Star,” which premieres on June 7. Palumbo discovered a vegan friendly alternative to sugar and honey through a friend, and lists it as one of her most prized kitchen ingredients.

“I always have some agave nectar handy–my friend Matthew Kenney, a great chef who prepares some delicious vegan food, introduced me to it years ago during a cooking class. I started using it as a sweetener and never went back,” she told the Huffington Post.

Agave nectar is touted as more healthful than sugar because of its low glycemic index, and it makes vegans happy when they don’t want to use honey in tea or other items, but some should be cautious about making it their only sweet replacement.

“Once you fully understand it then you see that everything is replaceable and that’s why I created a virtual replication of McDonald’s. If my daughter wants to have a burger and chips, she can have it. It’s just the chips are oven-baked and the burger is meat-free, but tastes like a burger. Everything is replaceable. If she wants a cake, she can have a cake. If she wants ice cream, she can have ice cream.”

Heather Mills, in an interview with Birmingham Post, on how a vegan/vegetarian diet doesn’t mean giving up traditional foods, just replacing with with ones made from plant based ingredients. Heather has replaced many animal products in her line of Redwood Wholefood faux meat and cheeses.

From faux burgers, faux cheese and egg substitute powders in vegan desserts, what’s your favorite way to replace animal ingredients in your diet?

The Big Bluff Online Triva Game Launch Hosted By Perez Hilton

Pamela Anderson has asked Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for his help in ending the annual seal hunt in her home country of Canada.

Putin has already seen Russia end killing baby seals in their hunt and Anderson is hoping he will extend a hand in ending the Canadian one as well.

“My friends at PETA and I were pleased to see a recent slideshow spotlighting your fondness for animals. Since you’ve already banned the slaughter of baby seals in Russia, I’m writing to ask that you also ban seal-pelt imports from my native Canada, where almost all seals who are killed are three months of age or younger.”

"The Omnivore's Dilemma" Michael Pollan

The National Association of Scholars has compiled a report titled “What Do Colleges Want Students to Read Outside Class?” that accuses colleges of designing summer reading programs for incoming freshman that include books aimed to “either explicitly promote a liberal political agenda or advance a liberal interpretation of events.”

Michael Pollan‘s “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” is on the association’s list and is said to be “promoting environmentalism and animal rights.” Yes, a real waste of reading, that’s for sure.
