“The September Issue” And Anna Wintour’s Furry Back

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Fashion, Fur.

J Mendel Fall 2006 - Front Row

A movie about the editors, models, and photographers that made September 2007 the best selling edition of Vogue magazine ever, The September Issue,  hits the theatres this month.

Anna Wintour, fashion editor and editor-in-chief of American Vogue is known for reviving the fur trend in fashion.

Not sure how the “reviving” works, since the fur is dead, but Anna supposedly has the resurrection powers within her.

“Nobody was wearing fur until Anna put it back on the cover in the ’90s,” one stylist said, according to usatoday.com.

Thanks a bunch, Anna. The animals thank you as well.

Wintour has been quoted as saying,”There’s always a way to wear fur. Personally, I wear it on my back.”

Don’t see why she’s bragging about this, as most men won’t even admit to having a hairy back.

With the cruelty of animals being kept in cages on fur farms and even skinned alive for the hides, the best way to wear fur is to fake it or keep it on the original owner-the animal.

Chef Aldo Zilli: No To Processed Meats, Yes To Hummus And Cheese

Celebrity Chefs Launch Taste Of London 2007

If meat is evil, the processed meat is the superbionic evil created in a laboratory by Dr. Quickdeath.

Celebrity chef Aldo Zilli is backing a statement made by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), warning people of eating processed meat.

“Processed meat is a different thing – it comes from a huge production and unfortunately we don’t know how good it is for us,” said Zilli. “I would never dream of putting processed meat into my son’s lunchbox. Once they taste that [type of food] it’s hard to get them back into fresh food. When I go back to my family in Italy and I know that my brother has bought his salami from a good supplier I’ll eat it, but I wouldn’t eat salami from a supermarket.”

While we’re promoting the no salami approach, we’re excited that Chef Zilli has recommended some vegetarian alternatives, such as hummus and low fat cheese.

Olivia Wilde GQ October 2009: A Vegan Perfect Picture

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Vegan House actress Olivia Wilde is gracing the cover of the October 2009 issue of GQ magazine and she’s giving the vegs a darn good name.

Apparently before the interview, the reporter had this “fantasy” plan of how everything would be conducted, including Olivia eating veggie burgers at In and Out.

Um, In-n-Out has veggie burgers? Don’t see any on the menu.

“We’re going to shoot sloppy pool and play Galaga and persuade two burly Hells Angels on their Harleys to drive us to an In-N-Out Burger, where I’ll order the Double-Double and Olivia, a vegetarian, will have a veggie burger and maybe a few fries, because, you know, she’s drunk, and those fries are amazing. Then we’ll climb into the hills and scale the famous hollywood sign, where we’ll sit until sunrise on opposite sides of the giant H, and Olivia will grandly recall her adventures in show business before she throws up, as I hold her flowing brown hair.”

Defendor Screening - TIFF 2009

We briefly touched on the fact that Woody Harrelson turned Zombieland into a more environmentally friendly set during its shooting.

Now we’re learning more details on how Woody used his vegan eco powers to make the set a little greener.

Director Ruben Fleischer, who Woody convinced to eat veg during the filming, has revealed to WENN:

“He practices what he preaches and made us all aware. I’m far healthier since knowing him. He’s very persuasive.”

“He eats raw food and vegan items, so he had a chef making delicious things for him every day that he shared with me and the rest of the cast that was healthy and delicious.”

“One of the requirements for him doing the film was that we have a green set as much as possible. All the silverware was metal that could be washed and reused, as opposed to just thrown away.”

“If we did use plates or cups or glasses it was all biodegradable. We didn’t use plastic. Instead of having plastic water bottles, which he sees as a huge environmental threat, we had big coolers and everybody on the set got their own jug that they could refill.”

Wonder if Fleischer and the cast continued the veg and green efforts once the shooting wrapped up.

Keith Floyd Turned Down George Harrison Vegetarian Bouillon Idea

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in Chefs, Food & Drink.

Keith_Floyd

British celebrity chef Keith Floyd died this week after a bout with cancer.

Floyd had star chef status long before Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver came around.

Years ago Floyd attended a party where vegetarian rock and roller George Harrison was present and Harrison wanted to get Floyd’s advice on the menu for an upcoming tour.

“Every rock’n’roller going was there,” Floyd said. “George Harrison opened the door.”

“And the first thing he asked me was what I thought about vegetarian stock cubes. Paul Young wanted a menu for his tour. ‘Leave it out, mate’.”

So chef didn’t appreciate a good non chicken or non beef bouillon.

Doesn’t mean you don’t have to.

Rapunzel makes a great collection of vegan bouillons-regular with sea salt, no salt added, and herb flavored.

Cause a vegetable rice medley just ain’t the same with chicken stock.

Jon Gosselin Dogs Going Back To Breeder: Kate Gosselin Blamed

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV.

Jon Gosselin adjusts himself while out in his yard

While we’re on the subject of breed dogs, it breaks our heart to learn that Jon Gosselin is sending his German Shepherd dogs back to the breeder, blaming it on the fact that Kate Gosselin won’t take care of them when he’s not around.

Cause Jon never has time to care for his dogs while partying  it up with bikini girls at the pool.

There are two things wrong with this picture, the obvious being Nala and Shoka came from a breeder to begin with.

But for douchebag, Jon to just shirk his pet owner responsibilities and blame it on the ex?

We’re just not buying it.

What’s worse, Jon made a statement earlier to People.com that indicated the dogs suffered more punishment than having to look at Jon grab his crotch all day long.

“Those kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they’ve done.”

Jon later said the statement was taken out of context.

Uh-huh.

Suppose we’ll get a statement later saying it was in the contract for the dogs to return to the breeder.

Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt Parents Of Breed Dog-Maltipoo

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Couples.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag push her Playboy Magazine spread at LAX airport in Los Angeles, CA

The Speidis have expanded.

Don’t worry, they haven’t procreated yet, so there’s still time to convince them not too.

Spencer Pratt gave wife Heidi Montag a puppy for her 23rd birthday.

“I’m so excited today is my birthday,” Montag said. “Thank you God for every moment you have given me and blessing me with my wonderful husband!”

We’re sure the 9 week old maltipoo is cute as can be, but do you really find those things at the shelter?

The cross between a Malteese and a Poodle presents a nice market for a breeder, but how many animals are waiting in cages to be adopted while the puppy factory continues its operations.

Here’s a directory where you can find animal shelters in your state.

We’re crossing our fingers Heidi’s puppy was at least a rescue of a designer dog abandoned.

After that, we’re crossing our fingers the puppy never has to watch Heidi’s Miss Universe performance.
