Free Birds Adopt a Turkey

This year’s spokespersons for Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey campaign are two individuals who know how important it is to keep animals off the dinner table.

Reggie and Jake, voiced by Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, can be seen in theatres this Thanksgiving season as two cartoon turkeys in Free Birds, a film about turkeys on a mission to save their family and friends from becoming dinner.

Between shooting for the upcoming film Now You See Me and a new HBO detective series yet to be named, some might think he’d be tempted to go home and give into something less than healthy after a long day on the set.

That’s not the case, according to a recent interview where Harrelson reveals his biggest indulgence is a “cooked” meal every now and then.

Woody Harrelson has narrated a new video produced by the Humane Society of the United States that promotes the end of using animals for fur.

The actor, vegetarian, environmentalist and animal advocate said of his cause:

“It’s always difficult for people to deal with images of animal cruelty head-on; no one wants to look at what really goes into the making of fur. This video is so impactful because it lets you know without having to see.”

“I really hope it makes fashion designers and consumers think twice about using and wearing animal fur, when so many great alternatives are available and just as stylish.”

Woody Harrelson is behind an innovative company that has spent more than a decade perfecting an eco-friendly wood-free paper.

Prairie Pulp & Paper is a Winnipeg-based company co-founded by the vegetarian and environmentalist actor that has created paper made from wheat straw–a product considered field waste by farmers that is often burned.

“I had a meeting with this engineer who is very knowledgeable about the making of non-wood pulp and paper mills,” Harrelson said. “I asked him who was the closest to making this happen in North America.”

Woody Harrelson and Jessica Chastain have been named Sexiest Vegetarians of the Year by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in an online poll where fans of the animal rights group voted.

According to PETA, the average vegetarian saves 100 animals a year and Harrelson and Chastain have saved at least 4,500 with their combined 45 years of living meatless.
