"I Like Food, Food Tastes Good"

I Like Food, Food Taste Good is a collection of recipes from bands that features an entire chapter on vegetarian main courses.

In fact, from glancing at the table of contents, it looks like meatless recipes make up about a 1/4 of the book.

The Night Before Mac-and-Cheese, Tofu Pot Pie, Semi Raw Everyday Pasta, The Karate Kid and Uncle Kyle’s Avocado Tacos all sound tasty with an interesting story.

Death Cab For Cutie‘s Veggie Sausage with Peanut Butter sandwich is included in the mix.

Vegetarian music enthusiasts, this is something you’ll want to add to your collection.

Christofer Ingle of Never Shout Never turned vegan about a year ago, but he may be closer to one of those “vegan in the home” kind of people.

When Beatweek asked him how he keeps this up on the road, Ingle answered, “I’ll sometimes dabble into, like, a cheese pizza and what not. But other than that I’m pretty much a vegan. I try to eat all natural and stuff.”

Does dabbling into cheese pizza when you’re in the middle of nowhere with low blood sugar make you a terrible vegan?

Probably not.

Would a little planning on the road by stocking a freezer full of frozen vegetarian entrees, something similar to what Death Cab for Cutie does, help keep Ingle on the straight course?

Probably so.

What are some ways you’ve circumvented eating animal products when there’s seemingly no other options?

Death Cab For Cutie will have a song on the New Moon soundtrack called Meet Me On The Equinox.

Seems fitting that real vegetarians Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla would sing a song for a movie about vegetarian vampires.

Zooey Deschanel, Ben Gibbard Marrying In September

2009 Maui Film Festival - Day 2

We love veggie couples.

That’s why we’re overjoyed to hear that vegan Zooey Deschanel and vegetarian Ben Gibbard are expected to tie the knot this month.

From Page Six:

“A spy at the Bar Method ballet studio in Los Angeles says, “Zooey is in Belfast with James Franco and Natalie Portman” — filming Your Highness — “but will return at the end of September for her ceremony in Seattle.””

With Zooey and her sister Emily being vegan, and both Ben and his Death Cab For Cutie band mate Chris Walla being vegetarian, you know the reception will be filled with abundant veg food and may even be completely vegan.

Vegetarian and vegan weddings may be harder to plan if you have meat eating guests, but that’s no reason to back down. It’s your day, after all!

Mentor Foundation Presents The New York Inaugural Royal Gala

If you are in your twenties or younger and you went vegetarian in your teens, you probably existed a great deal on Amy’s Kitchen products after school. From burritos to mac and cheese to tofu pot pies, you can’t go wrong with a healthy product that’s quick to fix, inexpensive, and meat-free.

If you’re still into Amy’s congrats, you’re in good company. Victoria DeSantis, who is on the Western Sales Team with Amy’s Kitchen was watching MTV Cribs one day when she saw Russell Simmons open up his crib to show the cameras his freezer was full of their products.

Talk about a free advertisement.

Russell’s not the only one diggin’ Amy’s at his crib. Their food keeps Death Cab For Cutie from becoming grumpy on tour and Moby’s got some in his fridge as well.

So hats off to them for being so brave, and if you’re still interested in being brave, have at it for the recipe.

Scott Jurek Still Sees Many Vegans Drinking Soda Pop

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

Scott Jurek is an ultra marathoner who is featured in the October issue of Vegetarian Times, along with Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie.

Not only is he a vegan athlete, he is also a yoga man, and an instructor for a class he attended took the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his lifestyle.

Jurek made his final decision to go vegan after a friend let him borrow, “Mad Cowboy,” by Howard F. Lyman, a former cattle rancher turned vegetarian.

“This book really opened my eyes to the factory farming nightmare and how unhealthy it was for me, the animals, and the environment,” he said.

And although turning veg has done great things for him, he’s cautious to anyone who thinks cutting out meat alone will make you healthy.

“It’s not like you wake up the next morning and feel ten times better. The changes are more gradual and you can see them better once you continue down the path for a while and then look back. In regards to competing and training I noticed my recovery times had shortened, that I was less injury prone, and had a higher level of energy. Above all, the major changes were in my relationship to food preparation and intake. I became very concerned not just about veganism, but about proper nutrition. I’ve come across many vegans who are still drinking soda pop. The point is you can be vegan and still have an unhealthy diet.”
