Chrissie Hynde And McDonald’s: She’s Not Lovin’ It!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Musicians, Female Singers.

McDonalds-PETA

Perhaps one of the most vocal celebrity activist, singer Chrissie Hynde, joined in a protest against McDonald’s this week as part of PETA’s relaunching of their McCruelty campaign.

It’s been almost a decade since PETA spoke with McDonald’s, the fast food establishment that promised to treat its chickens better before slaughter. Since nothing has changed, PETA is going after them again.

Unlike modern methods of killing, which involved giving chickens a gas to put them to sleep, McDonald’s still slaughters chickens while being conscious and able to feel pain.

Chrissie held up her “McCruelty: I’m Hatin’ It” sign while PETA’s vice president Dan Matthew held her up.

“What happens if you fall and [hurt] yourself?” a security guard asked.

“Then I won’t be able to do my show tomorrow,” The Pretenders singer replied.

Hynde once said she pledged to remain on the earth until all McDonald’s had burned to the ground.

Kelly Clarkson Vegetarian Idol Now!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 in Female Singers, Videos.

Wow. Talk about what’s been happening “since she’s been gone.”

Kelly Clarkson is vegetarian now and has been one for about a year.

During a recent interview with Trent FM UK, Kelly’s interviewer was talking about his experiences in Amarillo, Texas, where the world’s biggest steak-72 ounces-is served.

Kelly said, “My friends have kind of disowned me a bit in Texas because I’ve been a vegetarian for over a year now.”

Don’t worry Kelly. Fellow Idol winner Carrie Underwood knows your pain.

“You can’t be a vegetarian in Texas,” the interviewer jokingly objects.

“I tried it and it’s been really great…So a 72 ounce steak might make me barf,” Kelly continued. “It’s so much better now. I feel better,” she added.

The interviewer concluded by pleading with Kelly to “eat some steak, please,” telling her she was missing her nutrients. Ha! Smart gal Kelly responded that “you get enough nutrients [from things] like beans and everything.”

We’ve got Kelly Clarkson, Kellie Pickler, Carrie Underwood, and off the wagon trying to get back on Ruben Studdard in the veg American Idol club.

Kelly’s new album, All I Ever Wanted, is set to be released in March.

Listen to the video to hear the interview and Kelly talk about her fake red carpet smile. The vegetarian part of the conversation starts around minute 4:45.

Meatless Mouthful: Rory Freedman’s Advice For Going Veg

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 in Authors, Meatless Mouthful.

Farm Sanctuary's 2008 Gala

“Don’t let it overwhelm you or make it bigger than it is. Just pick a date, get organized (food shopping, etc.) and pledge to do thirty days meat-free. (Visit GoVeg.com for a free vegetarian starter kit.) And remember to take it one meal at a time. If you approach it like, “I can never eat meat again?” of course you’ll struggle. But if you just tell yourself, “Right now, for this meal, I’m going to eat something else,” you’ll make it through with flying colors.”

Mariah Carey, Kim Cattrall Donate Old Coats For London Fashion Week

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 in Actresses, Female Singers, Fur.

Neighborhood Inaugural Ball

While the effectiveness of throwing flour in a fur wearing celebrity’s face is questionable, PETA anti-fur campaigns do work!

Mariah Carey and Kim Cattrall have graciously donated their old fur coats to the latest campaign, “Fur Is a Drag,” premiering this Friday during London Fashion week.

The coats will be worn by actors in a satirical play about models on the fashion runway. The “models” will be cross dressers and the coats will be accessorized with paint and fur traps.

Ethical designer Stella McCartney will be providing the shoes, which we can only assume will be some pretty large sizes, considering the “queens” have feet bigger than the average lady’s.

Although Mariah and Kim wore fur in the past, it appears they’ve had a change in heart.

The Sex & The City star Kim Cattrall, opened a Harrod’s department store sale last summer, the same store Leona Lewis turned down over a million dollars to perform at because it sells fur.

Being the handsome vegan man he is, Moby is going to have his stalkers.

The latest obsessive fan is full of more plastic than Hollywood.

This looks like something you might watch during Spike Feresten’s Comedy For Stoners.

A plastic Barbie doll is obsessed with Moby in Cassidy Loves Moby, now playing on the Sundance Channel.

“Here I am,” she says in one episode. “Alone at the airport, chasing after some rock star. He comes to me in my dreams.”

Um, yeah. Many levels of creepiness.

Cassidy appears in various scenes blabbing about how much she is into the musician and in between her love gushes are clips with Moby interviews, quotes from his blog, and his tunes.

But we really need to know more about this doll’s diet before she tries to score with the “Troubles So Hard,” singer. As a healthy vegan, he’ll probably want someone similar.

The clip below shows her on an airplane seat with a package of what looks to be junk food goodies next to her, but little else is given on her diet. Those junk goodies could be bacon flavored.

She drinks bottled water, but that may mean she’s just wasteful and not conscious of the mile high piles of waste those unrecycled plastic bottles are creating in landfills.

Watch below and judge for yourself. Moby material? What the heck did plastic chick eat?

Rory Freedman Not Bitchy, Doesn’t Care About Skinniness

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 in Authors.

Farm Sanctuary's 2008 Gala

Note to self: Bitch status of Rory Freedman-negative.

People have expressed mixed feeling about the vegan diet book, Skinny Bitch, by authors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.

Some say it’s the greatest book on the shelf for going vegan, keeping healthy, and looking trim. Others have criticized it because they think it will give people the idea that going vegan is about losing weight or every person should aim to be skinny.

Freedman agrees people do have their assumptions, but says they’re usually not correct.

“I guess people who haven’t read the book might assume that I think women should be skinny, or that I’m a bitch, or that I’m hung up on my own weight,” Freedman told Ecorazzi.

“I’d want them to know that I could give two shits about how much I weigh, that I think full-figured women should rock their curves with pride, and that I’m generally a nice person. (When I have PMS, not so much.)”

Hilarious!

What the gals were trying to get across in a spunky way was that a proper vegan diet can make anyone healthier, thus allowing them to reach the appropriate weight for themselves, which doesn’t always correspond to a size four.

Most importantly, they wanted everyone to know that Soda really is “liquid Satan” and only a “total moron” would do the Atkins diet to get thin.

Skinny Bitch launched several other Skinny Bitches, including Skinny Bitch in a Box, Skinny Bitch in the Kitch: Kick-Ass Recipes for Hungry Girls Who Want to Stop Cooking Crap (and Start Looking Hot!), and Skinny Bitch Fitness: Boot Camp to name a few.

And get ready for a booty call! The Skinny Bitch Dance workout DVD, Skinny Bitch: Booty Bounce, is set to be released in April.

Milo Ventimiglia And Hayden Panettiere: Veg Duo No More!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 in Actors, Actresses, Couples.

Comic-Con 2007 - Day 3

One of our favorite veggie couples, Heroes’ stars Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere has called it quits.

Our fantasies of them raising little veg babies who grew up and took tofu sandwiches to school for lunch have been crushed. At least for now.

The breakup was amicable and a source told US Magazine that it was a “lifestyle conflict.” Hayden was too young (yes, it was a creepy reverse Demi Moore/Ashton Kutcher fling) and liked the club scene, while Milo, as we already know, would just rather stay in and make a home cooked meal.

There is a 12 year age difference between them, Hayden 19 and Milo 31.

OMG! Don’t watch this while you’re hungry.

Bethenny Frankel showed us how to combine Pepperidge Farm products with hummus for healthier dips for the Super Bowl not long ago, and we dug up a video in the archives of her demonstrating quick and easy vegetarian lunches.

The Real Housewives of New York City star says these are the foods she eats everyday, which include Open Faced Pesto Boca Cheeseburger with soy cheese on sprouted grain bread and Tofu Salad Sandwich with Greens with vegan mayonnaise and Spike Seasoning.

If you aren’t in the kitchen raiding your refrigerator by now, you can watch the video to see how Bethenny demonstrates making these foods before you attempt them.
