Following in the footsteps of her mother Linda, who penned books like Linda’s Kitchen: Simple and Inspiring Recipes for Meals without Meat and Linda McCartney on Tour: Over 200 Meat-Free Dishes from Around the World, photographer Mary McCartney has compiled a book of her favorite vegetarian recipes, complete with photographs of the dishes she took herself.

According to Booktrade, Chatto & Windus, an imprint of Random House, have acquired the rights to the collection of meat-free dishes, schedule for publication in 2012.

“I am excited to be working with Chatto & Windus on a contemporary vegetarian cook book,” said Mary, in a press release that comes just days after the late Linda’s birthday. “My mother, Linda, became the focal point for vegetarians and meat reducers in the past and helped inspire many, through her books and actions, to realise that there was a viable and tasty alternative. I am so proud to be able to carry on what she started. Vegetarian cuisine has come a long way and with the addition of my other love, photography, we are going to try and show just how sophisticated and varied the vegetarian palate has become.”

Beatles "Yesterday and Today" album cover

Beatles "Yesterday and Today" album cover

According to some sources, Paul McCartney wasn’t introduced to vegetarianism by Linda McCartney until the mid 70s. Sounds true, cause there would be no way Paul would have posed with raw meat cuts for the Beatles’ Yesterday and Today album cover in 1966.

The Telegraph has a story on several artists who’ve pulled a raw meat Gaga stunt and when the album was created, the Beatles wanted to make a statement about the Vietnam war by posing as butchers with chunks of meat and butchered dolls.

Advanced copies of the album created too much controversy, so the record label’s management ordered a new cover, but many of the originals still remain.

Stella McCartney–Food Industry Would Disappoint Linda McCartney

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 19th, 2010 in Fashion, Film & TV, Food & Drink.

Stella McCartney Switches On Store Christmas Lights

Food Inc. is the talk of the town among Hollywood greenies like Stella McCartney.

The ethical fashion designer spoke to Black Book Mag about the premiere, where she shared her thoughts on what her mother Linda McCartney would think about it, as well as the state of the food industry today.

Linda was both a vegetarian and activist and founded a line of frozen vegetarian entrees.

“Obviously my mother would have been very saddened the way things have turned out with how we produce our food, so that’s why I feel so motivated by the issues,” Stella said.

“We’re not moving forward in a very positive way. It seems that money really is the root of all evil. It’s scary how the food industry is so intertwined with politics. I guess my mum would have been disappointed with how things are.”

Stella said the biggest shocker of all she learned from Food Inc. was that there are “only five major players that provide all the food.”

Carol Leifer “Celebrity Apprentice”–Business Of Funny And Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 8th, 2010 in Comedians, Reality TV.

Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences Presents "From Stand-Up To Sitcom"

TV Squad asked what comedian Carol Leifer was doing on a reality TV show about serious business, Celebrity Apprentice.

“Doesn’t she seem like the type of person who would dump on reality shows (especially celebrity reality shows) rather than be on one?” said writer Bob Sassone.

Hopefully, the recently turned vegan funny woman won’t attempt to make DNA mutating Agent Orange chicken like Herschel Walker did.

When given the task of creating frozen meals for a large company, Walker chose to take charge, even though he was a vegetarian.

Despite so many successful veggie companies like BabyCakes and Linda McCartney foods, Herschel couldn’t see a group of suited carnivores enjoying a plant based meal.

Do you even have to be told he was fired?

If Carol is given the same challenge, she’ll surely opt for entrees everyone can enjoy.

The Celebrity Apprentice season premier airs March 14th on NBC.

Sinitta X Factor Fountain Studios–Fur Real Or Fur Fake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 in Fur, Fur Real Or Fur Fake, Reality TV.

The X Factor judge Dannii Minogue and show's mentor Sinitta are seen leaving Fountain Studios in Wembley

Simon Cowell knew Linda McCartney faux sausages had the X Factor.

But if his assistant and X Factor mentor Sinitta is wearing real fur trim, she definitely isn’t a star.

What is with this bizarre looking accessory on her coat, anyway?

Seems as if an animal is crawling around her neck, hoping to pop out any minute to get its 5 minutes of fame on TV.

Of course, Sinitta probably knows the only way to wear a fur is to wear one more artificial than John and Edward’s (aka “Divas of Dublin”) gel preserved hairdos.

Your vote counts.

Is Sinitta keeping her X Factor by faking it?

Or is she fur real?
