Bob Barker

When it comes to fashion, Bob Barker knows what’s in style and it’s not fur.

During an interview with Stylist, the vegetarian and animal rights activist explained how his wife got him on the right track to what’s trendy.

“My wife stopped wearing fur 35 years ago, and she wasn’t trying to influence me, but by example she did. I had several leather jackets and coats with sheepskin that I gave away. I stopped wearing leather belts and then stopped wearing leather completely. And this was all before I became a vegetarian about 32 or 33 years ago.”

Rihanna Promises To Go Fur-Free At “Rihanna” Book Signing

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 28th, 2010 in Environment-Eco-Green, Female Singers, Fur.

During a signing to promote her book, “Rihanna,” at the Fifth Avenue Barnes and Noble in New York City, a fan of singer Rihanna asked if she would consider going fur-free.

“I will,” Rihanna replied, which can be seen in a video here.

Does she sound serious?

Besides millions of animals being killed for fashion each year, some in the most brutal form like being skinned alive, despite what some advocates of the fur industry may tell you, fur never has and ain’t never goin’ be green!

Most fur comes from animals raised on factory farms, which create wastes that make their way into nearby rivers and streams.

Ammonia, another by-product of animal waste from factory farms, is also released, causing air pollution.

Australian twin sisters and singing duo The Veronicas posed with some props you’ll probably never find with them on stage–skinned, dead animals representing what’s left after the material obtained for making a fur coat is ripped off them.

“[W]earing fur is unnecessary and unacceptable,” explained Jess Origliasso.

With so many fur-free retailers located at your local mall or shopping center, is it really that hard to choose compassion over killing?

A behind the scenes interview with the sisters can be viewed below.

Donna Karan Rabbit Fur Return Prompts PETA Protest

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 in Fur, Videos.

Donna Karan is making herself known as the pendulum that can’t stop swinging in the fashion world. She used fur in previous clothing collections and after pressure from animal rights groups like PETA, agreed to remove it from her 2009 line.

However, she’s back again with designs that incorporate rabbit fur, so PETA used the opportunity to protest outside the location of a fundraiser Karan hosted with Michelle Obama, who won’t be wearing any items from the collection. Dan Matthews, senior VP of PETA was quoted by The Gothamist as saying, “We think Donna Karan should take a fashion tip from the first lady, who has officially announced that she is fur-free.”

Talbots Goes Fur Free. Again.

Talbots

When a company reverses or ignores a previously established policy, it loses creditability. Talbots, a clothing store specializing in women’s fashions, has been on the Humane Society’s fur-free retailers list for a decade. However, the company recently listed an $89 rabbit fur collar for sale as part of its fall collection.

Word of this got out and the company received a deluge of phone calls, emails and posts on Facebook from unhappy consumers regarding the decision to reinstate fur. As a result, the company has dropped the fur offering and declared itself fur-free again. For now.

“Thank you for your concern.,” a statement from the company read. “Talbots always seeks to operate under the highest ethical standards. We have heard our customers’ concerns regarding the items offered that contained real fur. These items have been pulled from stores and are no longer available for sale. Talbots remains committed to its policy against the use of real fur in our collection.”

It’s too bad most schools have a ban against clothing with nudity on it, cause these t-shirts would be the biggest fad since leg warmers or 80s puffy bangs.

The closest some boys will have Charlotte Ross, an actress who’s had roles in Glee, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and NYPD Blue, naked and on their bodies is by wearing this shirt available at Urban Outfitters.

Johnny Weir Opens His Fur Closet To The Public (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Fur, Videos.

Back during the Winter Olympic games, figure skater Johnny Weir almost got the skin taken from his back by animal rights activists after he skated in a costume trimmed with rabbit fur.

That was just a sneak preview of an utterly, disgusting, even more X-rated fur porn show.

Weir opens up his closet in this video to reveal he has lynx, fox and other creatures lurking in his bedroom.

Despite all the wild animals at his residence, Weir sleeps well given the fact none of them are alive!

Sure wish he’d skate over to a fake fur shop and donate those creatures to charity!
