If you like to do it old school on Sundays, have we got the story for you.

Anyone remember watching In Living Color? If so, you remember A.J. Jamal, who got his big break after replacing Keenen Ivory Wayans. Jamal now rests his funny bones at Comedy Central

Removing potty mouths from the stage, A.J. says he likes to keep his show clean and doesn’t curse at all when he’s not performing. He also keeps his body clean and is a vegan.

“I could have been a hippie,” said Jamal. “I’m one of those spiritual walking beings. I’ve never cursed offstage. I’ve never cursed, never tasted alcohol and been a vegan almost all my life. Never tried drugs. It’s just part of my nature. Now my mama, she cussed up a storm.”

Never cursed offstage? C’mon, A.J. Not even when you order the potato soup and find out the menu leaves off the key ingredient of BACON in it? You just politely tell the staff to bring you something else?

A stronger man than most will be.

Operation Smile Presents The 2009 Smile Event

John Salley is a vegan, but doesn’t think that will hurt his chances in the reality TV show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here competition. In fact, the raw jungle is exactly what he needs to survive on daily.

“Yeah, I’m a Vegan and part of what I do is promote lifestyles, healthy lifestyles and when they ask me about obesity in the black and Latino world with these young kids, so I would teach about food and how food can help you and nourish you and the best thing about this is they’re going to put me in a jungle around a lot of green foliage and I can show you what the raw diet will do for your body. I’m going in with all green products if they’ll let me where it. I’ll just show you that you can be part of the environment.”

Salley does give a whole new meaning to the term “raw vegan” but hey, more power to him with his all you can eat green foliage buffet.  As long as he’s not feasting on any tarantulas, we know he’ll stay strong and true to his word.

John Robbins Says Non Vegetarians Should Find Meat Disgusting

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 in Authors, Food & Drink, Videos.

Ah, John Robbins is such a hero.

The man gave up a zillion of a fortune as heir to the Baskin Robbins ice cream company to become an author and speak out against animal product industries that include 31 flavors of dairy.

In Processed People: The Documentary, Robbins states that even non-vegetarians would be turned off by the meat industry if they saw what went on behind closed doors.

“And the degree of cruelty that’s involved in modern meat production is so severe. You don’t have to a vegetarian, you don’t have to be an animal rights activist to find it deplorable – to find it appalling — if you actually see what it is, how far it’s gone, how grotesque. ”

Watch the clip to hear John talk about the horrors of the meat industry.

Contestants from the new NBC show Im a celebrity get me out of here give an interview about the upcoming show

Basketball legend John Salley is set to appear on the NBC reality TV show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. I’m a Celebrity will feature 10 celebrities trying to survive in the Costa Rican jungle.

Salley is vegan, but doesn’t think that will hurt his chances in the competition. Let’s just hope there aren’t any eating contests involving kangaroo penis like the one that screwed over Timmy Mallet.

From a recent interview with nba.fanhouse.com:

You are also a devout vegan. Do you think that will be a strike against you right off the bat?
No, it’s a strike for me, because I’m really not hungry for fake food – I’m only hungry for real food (laughs). So, I’m not going to miss any of the processed things. I’ve mostly cleared my body of the desire for sugar and plastic food. Plus, I’m a vegan because every day I make sure my body stays as clean as I can possibly get it so I can have a better life. If I have to eat certain things during tasks to get to the ultimate goal, it’s not going to take away from the fact that I’m a vegan. I mean, I’ve prepared my body; so in case anything bad does come to it, I can fight it off.

Salley earned the nickname “Spider Salley” because he is horrified by spiders. His biggest fear is a tarantula, but as long as they’re not on the menu for I’m a Celebrity, he’s cool with it.

“So, I said, ‘You know what? I know it’s in the jungle. As long as I don’t have to eat a live one, I’m cool.'”

Kathy Freston Celebrates Her New Book Quantum Wellness

“The single best thing you can do for optimal health is to cut way back on animal protein…until you can cut it out completely. Animal protein causes inflammation, among other things; it’s been conclusively shown to cause (and fan the flames of) cancer and heart disease. It burdens your body all around, insofar as circulation, hormonal imbalance, allergies, asthma, etc. But beyond that, optimal health includes a sense of inner wellbeing too. And I think it’s hard to feel really good, to have a sense that you are in synch with the upward thrust of evolution, if you are partaking in something that has become so cruel and unjust. When you eat in a pure way, that is kind and compassionate, an inner transformation happens that is more energizing than any vitamin or exercise regimen could ever be.”

—Author Kathy Freston, in an exclusive interview with Ecorazzi.com. Kathy is the woman who convinced Oprah Winfrey to go vegan for three weeks and is the author of several books, including her latest, The Quantum Wellness Cleanse.

Chrissie Hynde Joins PETA Protest Of KFC

Let’s face it, animal rights activists have to have thick skin.

When your motives are questioned, your tactics are ridiculed, and the cops are just waiting to shackle you at the slightest feeling the peaceful protest is turning ugly, it takes a lot of balls to get up routinely and stand up for creatures who cannot.

Not to mention those insane outfits!

From priests to fake bloody meat to animals to even getting downright naked, animal rights activists show no shame in dressing for the occasion to get the point across. Not a problem at all for vegan singer Chrissie Hynde.

“I don’t mind standing next to a guy dressed as a carrot chanting, ‘We’re not leaving ’til the cows come home,” Hynde told the Sunday Mail.

Or, standing next to a KFC chicken.

“If you’re willing to make a bit of a fool of yourself to make your point – that’s what you have to do.”

Whether it’s protesting KFC, McDonald’s or the mulesing industry, Chrissie has proven she never fails to pay her dues to the fools’ club.

Moby Ponders If Zombies Eat Vegans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Tribeca Film Festival Chanel Dinner celebrity arrivals in NYCMoby was on his way to the dentist recently when he started a much intellectual discussion with himself about whether zombies would find vegans tasty.

Please note that he hadn’t been to the dentist yet, so there was no Novocaine or other mind altering painkiller involved.

“see, i know the zombies won’t want to eat the vegans, as vegans tend to be all skinny and stringy and we’re generally kind of speedy. they’re going to make a b-line for vegas and eat the people standing in the buffet line. cull the herd, zombies.”

Why the concern about zombies, you ask? After experiencing his first earthquake a few days ago, Moby also experienced his first zombie escape. You can view a pic of the zombie escaping the trunk of a car on his journal.

Of course, Moby never thought to ask if zombies themselves were vegan. That fugitive zombie could just have a mean craving for sweet and sour tofu.
