Kathy Freston Celebrates Her New Book Quantum Wellness

One dilemma vegans have is whether to support non vegan companies.

Kathy Freston, the author who inspired Oprah Winfrey to go vegan for 21 days, has her stance on this and recently shared it with W Magazine’s Senior Fashion Features Editor Dana Wood. Wood and W Mag are on a full blown vegan kick, regularly featuring animal-free fashion in the sea of forest critter coats and cuffs.

Freston shared with Dana that she buys items from non vegan designers to encourage them to expand their collection.

“By buying non-leather items from non-vegan fashion houses, Freston hopes to encourage designers to step up the cruelty-free offerings. “It’s just like restaurants,” she says. “I almost prefer to go to mainstream places because I think it’s good that they get requests for vegetarian and vegan meals. The more they get positive feedback on that, the more items they’ll add to their menus. And I think it’s the same with fashion houses.””

Sounds like a good way to approach it.

And in the end, this might just help veg food and clothing become mainstream.

George Harrison Honored On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The late ex Beatle and vegetarian George Harrison has finally received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Although The Beatles share a star, only Harrison and John Lennon of the group have their own.

After the ceremony, several friends and family including Harrison’s widow and son, Olivia and Dhani, Ed Begley Jr., Paul McCartney and girlfriend Nancy Shevell, enjoyed a vegan meal in Capital Records’ Studio A.

Harrison was once quoted as saying, “The thing that repelled me about eating meat was the idea of killing animals. But the main issue is that it’s not healthy and not natural.”

Padma Lakshmi Discusses Her Hotdog Without The Dog Days

Celebs arrive at Bravos A-List Awards

Ex vegetarian turned Hardee’s burger food porn star Padma Laskshmi recently discussed her earliest food memories of New York.

Apparently even when she was vegetarian, the Top Chef host wasn’t doing food right. Hot dog bun with relish anyone?

“Looking back, I’m amazed how much we ate street food. My perfect meal would be a pretzel with mustard and then an Italian ice. I was a vegetarian for a lot of my childhood, so I would order a hot dog but tell him to leave the hot dog out—just the bun and the fixings, like sauerkraut and mustard and relish.”

Um, a trip to the falafel cart for some high protein chickpeas stuffed in pita bread would have made for a more nutritious vegetarian meal. This is even worse than the vegetarians who just start eating cheese all day.

So now we know. Poor Padma just never learned what good vegetarian food was.

Even insects on hot dog bun sound more appetizing.

Vegetarian Times hosted their 2009 Dining Out Awards and nearly 700 readers voted for restaurants based in different regions of the U.S and several specialty veg restaurants like Most Eco-Fabulous and Totally RAWsome.

Chrissie Hynde’s Vegiterranean won “Most Promising Rookie.”

Several other restaurants made the cut, including The Chicago Diner for the midwest. If you recall, the diner is where Ellen DeGeneres went gaga over the vegan seitan hot wings and had some Fed Ex’d to her studios in California.

Peter Max’s fave, Candle 79, won the category for the northeast.

John answered, “No, no one ever really messes with me!”

Oh, yeah.

Here are a couple of other veg related questions from the chat.

What kind of work are you doing with PETA?
I did a PSA about a year ago with PETA since then they have invited me to speak about the health benefits of being a vegetarian.

How did you make the decision to go vegetarian?
I was a vegetarian first [before I became vegan]. I had high blood pressure at 27, everybody in my family died of cancer and I new it was in the food so I changed my diet.

Bob Barker Says Vegetarianism Kept The Price Right For Years

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 in TV Hosts, Videos.

Bob Barker Returns To The Price Is Right

Bob Barker invited TheInsider.com in his old dressing room on The Price Is Right when he returned to the show to promote his new book, Priceless Memories.

Bob and Drew Carey, the new host for The Price Is Right, started talking about diet and Drew wanted some veg tips to help him stick around longer.

“I did the show until I was 83. I don’t believe I could have done that had I not been a vegetarian,” Bob said.

“I became a vegetarian out of concern for animals. But very soon after I became a vegetarian, I could see why people do it out of concern for health because I had more energy and I felt better.”

Wanna know the best kiss Drew Carey ever got? It was from Bob, of course, after Drew told him he’d continue to advocate spaying and neutering pets on the show like Bob did.

You can view the video at The Insider to hear Bob talk veggie and his passion for animals.
