Audrey Kitching Curses Chickpeas

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, September 6th, 2009 in Celebrity Tweets, Food & Drink, Models, Recipes.

The Hannah Montana Movie Los Angeles Premiere

Audrey Kitching was having a not so fun time in her kitchen recently when she decided to Tweet about the difficulties of working with chickpeas.

“Making home made hummus before my photoshoot, damn chickpeas are annoying to work with!”

We’ve never met Audrey’s chickpeas, but can only say good things about the chickpeas we’ve encountered.

Could it be the chickpeas aren’t happy because they need a little spice?

Someone who liked chickpeas created chickpearecipes.com, where you can find seven vegetarian recipes containing chickpeas like Chickpea and Mushroom Soup, Spicy Chickpeas, or Sauteed Chickpeas with Cinnamon.

Find the chickpea recipe that suits your kitchen staffing needs (and thus will work well with others) at chickpearecipes.com.

Naomi Campbell: And The Dennis Basso Fur Flies

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, September 5th, 2009 in Fur, Models.

05_Flatbed_2 - AUGUST

A couple of months ago, we brought you the news that Naomi Campbell agreed to pose in a series of ads promoting fur clothing by fashion designer Dennis Basso.

Campbell had previously worked with PETA in “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaigns, but withdrew her support after the animal rights group targeted fashion designers.

Naomi added the statement, “I do like wearing fur and I still do.”

Celebrity animal rights activists are appalled and Paul McCartney has written a letter to Campbell, according to the New York Daily News.

According to Campbell, she and PETA have embraced each other with love and all is forgiven.

“Yes, I am still wearing fur,” said Campbell, “but I’ve made up with that guy from Peta.”

Don’t know what Campbell means by “made up with” but we’re sure flashing the former coat of an animal for vain fashion purposes takes a lot more than a kiss and hug for anyone-PETA person or not-to get over.

After watching this video, you might wonder if someone slipped something into your almond milk.

Have no fear, it’s just an Auto-Tune The News parody of some recent events that touch on animal rights, which include New York city’s geese culling issue and Michael Vick‘s return to the football field.

A humorous take on series issues.

Michelle Obama Vegetable Garden Tour (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, September 5th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Gardening, Politicians, Videos.

First Lady Michelle Obama gives a tour of the White House vegetable garden while offering some commentary on what led to her decision to create it.

Like most moms, Mrs. Obama wanted the fam to eat healthier, but found time constraints got in the way.

The garden is just one of the many ways Michelle found time to improve the Obamas diet, including “adding more fruits and vegetables,” sitting down with the family to enjoy a meal “a couple of times a week”, eating out a “little bit less,” and “eliminating processed and sugary foods.”

Man v Food Adam Richman Does Vegetarian Challenge At Home

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, September 5th, 2009 in Food & Drink, TV Hosts.

Los Angeles Screening Of Overture Films Paper Heart - Red Carpet

If you’ve ever tuned into Man v. Food on the Travel Channel, you know the show is anything but promoting of a vegetarian, healthy, everything in moderation lifestyle.

Host Adam Richman samples food from different American cities before arriving at a spot to do a big eating challenge.

As you might guess, most of the food and challenges don’t involved counting the number of carrots you can down in 10 minutes.

But according to The Guardian, Richman balances his death eating challenges at work by eating vegetarian at home.

“But I know a couple of things about Adam Richman. I know he works out like a bastard before and after every episode. I know when he’s not doing the show he maintains a strictly vegetarian lifestyle. I don’t know that all the regulars in the diners and restaurants he visits are similarly vigilant. When Adam Richman’s back to his broccoli and his StairMaster, they’ll still be shovelling down food. Which isn’t to say I won’t be watching when he takes on the 12-egg omelette challenge.”

Anyone have knowledge of the validity of this statement? Does Richman attempt to purify his arteries at home?

The Pretenders, Cat Power And Juliette Lewis At The Greek Theatre

“I was hounded and followed by Americans worldwide, who said ‘You’ve got to make him stop.’ I hadn’t even heard the show. Actually so many people told me to take it off, I thought ‘(expletive) it.’ I don’t have to do what you people want me to do. That show doesn’t matter to me. I think people are too easily baited. Those talk guys are just part of the gossip culture. Everyone’s got opinions on other people. It’s such a boring, unoriginal topic. No offense, but that’s not an original question. Ask me something else.”

—-hilarious Chrissie Hynde in an interview where she was asked about conservative talks show host Rush Limbaugh using her song, “My City Was Gone,” for his radio show.

Eventually Chrissie allowed Rush to use part of the song, but donate royalties to PETA.

And Rush isn’t such a bad guy after all, as he recorded a PSA for the Humane Society-without Chrissie’s prompt.

The left and the right can get along.

At least when it comes to being an advocate for animals.

Aerosmith Joe Perry: Hunter Out Of Touch With Reality

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 4th, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

24th Annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony - Press Room

Aerosmith‘s guitarist and vocalist Joe Perry thinks he’s quite the conservationist, according to an interview with Outdoor Living magazine.

Perry was quoted as saying:

“I don’t shoot anything that I don’t eat. Hunters are conservationists and their heads are in the right place. … (Hunting) really gives you a great opportunity to keep in touch with reality.”

Oh, Joe. How out of touch with reality you are!

Granted, hunting your food is less taxing on the environment than raising cattle which wastes precious resources of water and land that could be put to better use growing crops.

But Joe, unless you wear a loincloth (hubba, hubba? eh…maybe not so much), these aren’t the days where man (or a beefy Xena Warrior Princess type woman) chases after the beast before dinner time.

Try hunting down some vital wheat gluten flour at the grocery and whipping up a “taste like meat” seitan dish.

Put the rifle down, Joe.

Keeping the loincloth on is totally optional.
