Jason Schwartzman: A “Bored To Death” Non Practicing Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 18th, 2009 in Film & TV, Food & Drink.

HBOs Bored To Death Premiere

There’s a new HBO comedy starring Jason Schwartzman that’s sure to keep you laughing so hard on Sunday night, you’ll forget tomorrow’s a work day.

Bored To Death features Schwartzman playing a character named Jonathan who’s girlfriend has just moved out because Jason was less than the ideal man.

“My girlfriend broke up with me because she says I smoke too much pot and drink too much white wine. But she’s right! How can you love someone if you’re in a fog all the time?”

Jonathan is also vegan-but is currently not attending services regularly.

“You know, we really should all be vegans,” Schwartman says in one episode. “I’m kind of a nonpracticing vegan.”

In real life Schwartzman loves to devour vegan cupcakes from BabyCakes bakery in NYC.

As owner Erin McKenna told us, “The first time a celebrity made it known how fond he was of BabyCakes was Jason Schwartzman. He came in once by himself the first time and then brought a whole gang of friends with him and had an eating contest in here. He was going crazy over everything–it was really fun!”

Catch the Bored to Death premiere this Sunday, September 20 at 9PM on HBO.

If you were a fan of alternative female rockers of the 90s, you probably remember Sarah Betten from K’s Choice, known for their haunting and melodic song, I’m Not An Addict.

Betten and her band mates will be in Asheville, North Carolina recording some new tunes and there are a couple of hot spots she likes to frequent, Mellow Mushroom and Earth Fare.

“We’ll definitely have to go to Mellow Mushroom,” Betten told charletteobserver.com. “There’s a great vegetarian place that I know I’ll hit a couple times. Earthfare’s close to the studio.”

If you head to Asheville, after picking up your pizza from Mellow Mushroom, you can swing by Earth Fare to stock up your home or apartment with natural and organic foods.

Some cool facts about Earth Fare, from its website.

1. Earth Fare became the first supermarket to ban high fructose corn syrup in 2004.

2. Earth Fare also removed all products with hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oils from its shelves 13 years ago-before everybody caught onto the trans fat bandwagon.

Jennifer Aniston Wants Mexican Restaurant: We Suggest Sin Carne

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Videos.

So if you watched Late Night With Conan O’Brien Tuesday, you might have heard Jennifer Aniston mention she’s interested in starting her own Mexican Restaurant.

We think she should take the plunge and make a vegetarian Mexican restaurant.

Beans, rice and vegetables make up a good portion of the Mexican Diet.

And texturized vegetable protein, faux chicken or pork taste so similar to meat, customers would never miss the real thing.

Chrissie Hynde was able to build a successful Italian vegan eatery, The Vegiterranean, in a meat eating Midwestern town and says mostly meat eaters frequent it.

Jen would have no problem selling Mexican meatless.

Meatless Mouthful: Jane Goodall Describes Best Vegetarian Meal

Jane Goodall In Conversation With Thane Maynard

“I was literally in the middle of nowhere, in a forest in the northern Republic of Congo, visiting people studying chimps. We were out one evening in the forest with pygmy trackers. They picked these orange mushrooms, along with a large leaf from a low-lying plant-I have no idea of its name. They cooked them together; the leaves made a kind of broth. It was absolutely delicious, and the vibrant orange and green colors were so beautiful. And it was definitely vegetarian.”

—-Jane Goodall, in an interview in the print October 2009 issue of Vegetarian Times.

Jane has a new book out this month, Hope for Animals and Their World: How Endangered Species Are Being Rescued from the Brink, and the renowned scientist who studied primates shares his insights on the future of the animal kingdom as so many species becoming extinct.

Roger Moore Presents UNICEF 2009 Report

James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore is on a mission to get the UK supermarket Selfridges to take foie gras off the shelves.

He’s so passionate about his cause that Mr. 007 sent a letter to Selfridges’ owner, Galen Weston, offering to buy the entire remaining stock of foie gras if Weston agreed never to restock it again.

If you don’t know how foie gras is produced, it’s not a pretty picture.

Geese are force fed so much food their livers swell and it’s this organ that’s considered a delicacy to some.

Pigging out on fine food-good.

Pigging out when you don’t want to and being eaten afterward-not so good.

Here’s a clip with James talking about his top mission, with some graphic footage of how geese are force fed.

Jeremy Piven received a sugar free, gluten free and dairy free birthday cake while on the set of Entourage from chef Kelly Keough.

Yeah, the former mercury poisoning bedfellow was probably disappointed the cake was fish-free as well.

But the event led to an increase in Keough’s sales and she has her own cooking show on the Veria channel called The Sweet Truth.

Kelly is also the author of Sugar-Free Gluten-Free Baking and Desserts.
