Quantcast Vegetarian Starcelebrity and vegan (84)

Z100s Jingle Ball 2007 - Show

Avril Lavigne has been known to go and make things complicated when it comes to her status as a vegetarian, but this really takes the vegan cake.

In her hometown of Napanee, Ontario in Canada, at La Pizzeria Pizza and Spaghetti House, there’s a pizza named after her. Avril was a regular there, eating lots of slices of mushroom, olive, and pepperoni pizza. Yes, pepperoni.

And although Avril has associated herself with being vegetarian, she still rides the roni when she visits home, according to pizzeria co-owner Bill Kosmopoulos.

“She still has pepperoni on it,” said Bill, referring to the pizza Avril eats when she stops by occasionally.

This story is sorta reminiscent of vegetarian Alec Baldwin joking around with the New Yorker saying he shot and smoked deer meat and ate it every morning. Only this story sounds true.

“In East Hampton, I’m a nudist and I eat meat,” Baldwin—a vegetarian—had said before my visit, expanding on the idea that he lived a quite different life on Long Island than he did in New York. “I shoot deer with a bow and arrow. I smoke the deer meat and eat it every morning with my eggs and toast. I am a homosexual. I listen to rock music, loud.”

Insert Avril’s name and change a few of the specifics and you get:

“In Napanee, I chow down on the pepperoni and live a quite different life than I do in the states.”

“If only it were true! I would put vegan food everywhere. I’d put it anywhere it’d help to minimize meat consumption and get people to have tasty alternatives.”
—-Heather Mills, in an interview with ExtraTV.warnerbrothers.com on that false rumor going around that she signed a multi million dollar deal to promote a vegan burger with Burger King.

She’s on her way to sprinkling some vegan food dust in a couple of countries. She’s working with Hunts Point Charity to bring vegan food to impoverished families in the Bronx in the US and most recently, bought an old fish restaurant in the UK that she plans to turn into a vegan eatery.

Ruben Studdard Veg Again, No Longer Misbehavin’

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, April 12th, 2009 in Male Singers.

Radio Ones 25th Anniversary Awards Gala

Ruben Studdard went veg in 2006 to combat some health problems and ended up losing some love handles as well.

However, last time he was asked if he was still sticking to his vegetarian diet, he replied, “Currently trying to return.”

Talk about disappointment! We were saddened to learn our favorite American Idol teddy bear had fallen off the wagon.

That’s why we’re ecstatic to learn that he might at least have one leg in the wagon again.

When interviewed recently by boston.com, Ruben asked, “So, where are the good vegetarian restaurants in Boston?”

Does this mean Ruben is back to veg for good?

He’s currently working his butt off, probably both literally and figuratively, starring in the Fats Waller musical Ain’t Misbehavin

Studdard’s been performing eight shows a week for the past five months! You know that takes a lot of his favorite Morningstar Farms products, veggie buffalo wings, and PF Chang’s dinners he loves so much to refuel.

Glad to hear he’s asking about the veggie spots in town. Hopefully, this means he’s no longer misbehavin’ with his diet.

Have you ever fallen off the vegetarian wagon? What made you do it? How did you get back on it? Confess now!

Radio One DJ Fearne Cotton Talks Anorexia, Vegetarian Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 in Radio Hosts, TV Hosts.

Fearne Cotton promoting the BAFTA awards

Radio One DJ Fearne Cotton recently featured a documentary about websites encouraging girls and women to starve themselves.

According to the UK Sun, during the documentary, The Truth About Online Anorexia, Fearne met a woman whose daughter had died of the disease as well as an anorexic woman who runs a “pro-ana” website which encourages girls with eating disorders by printing diet tips and pictures of bone-thin models.

Fearne thinks many celebrities who blab about their latest diet should keep quiet because of the negative impact they could have on young girls.

“I think that is irresponsible. If you are doing a diet and you are a role model, don’t go splashing it about, because kids might just take hold of it and start doing it too.”

“When I was a kid I would always look up to people like Zoe Ball and Denise Van Outen and, whether they liked it or not, I would be influenced by what they said. So, as someone who is on TV now, I feel I have to take some kind of stance as a role model. I would hate to put out any kind of unhealthy advice.”

Fearne has no problem sharing the secret to maintaining her figure by following a vegetarian diet and lots of exercise. And giving chocolate the thumbs up, too.

“I eat a healthy diet but my social life revolves around eating out and I love baking more than anything in the world, and eating chocolate.”

Deirdre Imus, Don Imus’ Wife, Got College Schooled On Veg Life

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 in Authors, Business.

medium_imusSome say the college years are the best times of their lives. Deirdre Imus, radio talk show host Don Imus’ wife, possibly made one of the best decisions in her life in college.

While attending Villanova university, Deirdre became very interested in correlations between the environment and health. She soon learned a vegetarian diet played a huge factor.

From dotmed.com:

“Because I was involved in athletics at school, I wanted to be as fit as possible. I learned how variations in my diet could affect my performance on the track. I paid attention to the food I ate, and it was easy to extend that concept to all the things that could affect my health, and of course, that’s everything you come in contact with on a daily basis.”

“From what I learned, I became a vegetarian, and have been for about 25 years now.”

Deirdre and Don run a ranch in New Mexico designed to give the American cowboy experience to children with cancer or blood disorders or who have lost a sibling to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The menu on the ranch is strictly vegan and only natural, non-toxic cleaners are used.

Deirdre has her own name in the business world without Don as well. She is the Founder and President of  The Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology® at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, as well as the author of several bestsellng books.

She may eat veggie burgers from time to time ever since Sandra Oh took the Grey’s Anatomy cast and crew to lunch at Truly Vegan, but Ellen Pompeo insists she’s never becoming vegetarian. And we think the excuse is just plain tipesh.

Pompeo recently told People magazine, “I tried, but I get too skinny, and people think I’m anorexic. It just doesn’t suit my body type.”

“I’m naturally a waif,” she said.

She added that she works out extensively with a trainer three days a week to build muscle.

Ellen, Ellen, Ellen! You’ve been reading the wrong bodybuilding magazines.

We’re betting Brendan Brazier and his peeps at Vega would beg to differ and offer Ellen a nice collection of vegan protein powders and other supplements necessary to be a beefcake without the beef.

At least Ellen loads up on fruits and vegetables and avoid sugars and white flour.
