Quantcast Vegetarian Starcelebrities and vegan (26)

Broadway Opening Of The Drowsy Chaperone - After Party

The famous vegan junk food lovin’ Nellie McKay will be performing at the Denver, Colorado VegFest 2009 on April 11.

VegFest will feature all day veggie fun complete with guest speakers such as Dr. Milton R. Mills, associate director of preventive medicine for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), cooking demonstrations, and vendors.

The evening will end with Nellie’s concert as well as a performance by Amy and the Rock Sisters.

Nellie McKay, although a vegan, has said many times she just loves junk food, and thinks more people would be vegan if more vegan  junk food was available. We’re guessing VegFest won’t have a lot of junk food, but there’s still probably something for everyone to chow down on.

VegFest will take place at Mariott City Center in Denver. For more information, visit VegFest.net.

Like, really, really, really likes it.

VegNews magazine recently interviewed Todd “the Rod” Kowalski of the band Propagandhi on their new album, Supporting Caste, which features a satirical song about cooking up food writer Sandor Katz after raising him “humanely.”

The boys go to a lot of vegan restaurants while on tour and can’t get enough Thai food.

“We went to an unbelievable Thai restaurant called Peace Harmony in Sydney, Australia two days ago,” said bassist Kowalski. “We went there four times in two days!”

Um, obsessed much, guys?

Back home in Canada, Todd likes staying in to cook, but will saunter over to his favorite Ethiopian restaurant, Merkato, in Winnipeg.

Gordon Ramsay Goes Vegetarian After Electrocuting Himself

Gordon Ramsey Signs Copies of Gordon Ramseys Healthy Appetite

Gordon Ramsay, the celebrity chef notorious for his not so kind remarks about vegetarians and vegetarian food has become a vegetarian.

If you recall us telling you, Gordon’s hatred of vegetarians was so passionate, he once said he’d put his children on a fence and electrocute them if they adopted the diet.

That has changed.

When Gordon’s wife Tana, announced she was becoming vegetarian and that should would force the diet on the children, Gordon was less than pleased.

“I couldn’t believe after so many years of marriage, she would betray me like this,” Ramsay said, according to Chef Gossip Daily. “So, I decided to put her on the electric fence and electrocute her to prevent anything like this from happening to my seeds.”

While trying to put his wife on the electric fence, Gordon managed to shock himself. The great pain he experienced brought him to an epiphany-like state where he suddenly had more compassion for animals and wanted a healthier diet for himself and his family.

“I’m just glad it wasn’t anal electrocution like those poor animals on fur farms receive,” Gordon said, rubbing his bum to emphasize how painful that would have been.

Now every evening, Gordon likes to cook vegetarian food with his wife Tana. The children are found of tofu, but Gordon prefers they eat seitan, because it “sounds more devilish” and he hates for anyone to think he’s softened in any other area than his diet.

Note: This story is a bunch of vegan hogwash. But it’s April 1st, so what were you expecting?

“I’m basically vegan and don’t eat any of the food that was around. So as it got to the sixth or seventh leg, I was just running on fumes.”

Morrissey Denied Cooking Rights At “House Of Rules” In Boston

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 1st, 2009 in Food & Drink, Humor, Male Singers.

SINGER MORISSEY

How dare they!

Morrissey was performing at the House of Blues in Boston recently when he wanted to utilize their kitchen to make himself some grub.

They said “no,” proving even a celebrity can’t always have their way.

“You know what they said?” Morrissey asked. “No. People are just horrible, aren’t they?”

The singer wanted to cook some brown rice and peppers to take with him to his next stop at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Because of this, Morrissey nicknamed it the “House of Rules.”

He was able to have workers pass out vegetarian info pamphlets in the lobby, though.

Does the House of Blues have strict rules about who they let in the kitchen? Or is it Morrissey they’re afraid to give a knife and skillet to?

Amazing Race’s Mike White Went Two Days Without Solid Food

The Amazing Race has a history of not being a very kind race for vegetarians, and this season’s show proved no different.

Mike White was the poster boy for veganism on the show. His father and race partner, Mel, told Buddy TV.com Mike had a hard time finding vegan food.

“Mike is a vegan, and there was hardly any food that he could eat along the way and he didn’t compromise, so there were times where he hadn’t eaten for two days, anything solid,” Mel White said.

Mike White is a successful writer, who’s credits include Nacho Libre and School of Rock.

Last year, vegetarian contestant Terence Gerchberg attempted to eat sheep in an eating challenge, but lost-both the contest and his ability to keep the food down.

A vegetarian last year. A vegan this year. Clearly this isn’t something novel to Amazing Race, nor is a meatless eater novel to reality TV. Is it time the producers of these shows make reasonable accommodations for contestants with dietary preferences?

Move towards the whole grains and vegetables and beans and tempeh and all the yummy things out there. I have a book coming out in October called The Kind Diet. It will show you how to eat the most delicious food on the planet but also [keeping it] green. Every little bit makes a difference so the more vegetarian meals you have the better.”
