Tis the season for vegan on Top Chef.

Although that dreadful Hardee’s Thickburger commercial star Padma Lakshmi still hangs around cheering for steak, more vegan moments are occurring on the Bravo Network Reality TV series.

We already know vegan actress Natalie Portman will be popping in sometime.

And next week, actress and singer Zooey Deschanel will make an appearance.

The chef contestants will have the challenge of preparing a meal for Zooey and her friends.

Not only must the chefs make a vegan meal, it needs to fit Zooey’s dietary restrictions of gluten-intolerance and no soy.

Watch Zooey send a special message to the chefs, prepping them for the competition.

John Salley Got Torrie Wilson To Go Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Models, Reality TV.

Im a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! Press Conference

Second place winner of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here Torrie Wilson said she went vegetarian after finishing the reality TV competition.

“I’ve changed my entire way of eating after the show,” she told the Baltimore Sun. “I became a vegetarian, almost vegan. I feel wonderful after having the cleansing I had there and getting off sugar.”

Torrie’s competitor and 3rd place winner John Salley is vegan and according to chron.com, it was John that gave Torrie the little “push.”

“Wilson became good buddies with former NBA player Salley, who persuaded her to become a vegetarian.”

It’s great that Torrie became veg. Even greater than John helped her “convert.”

Now it’s just a matter of him sharing those recipes cards and giving her samples of his Double Baked Herbed Crisps to share.

Jane Taylor Discusses Rewards Of Riding The Sea Shepherd

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 17th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV.

Whale Wars star and former Naval Surface Warfare Officer (hence the 2008 Sexiest Vegetarian Soldier title) Jane Taylor says riding the Steve Irwin with the Sea Shepherd crews is a lot like her experiences with the military.

But the big differences between the Sea Shepherd and the Navy is that the crew gets to crank their music up, put creative drawings and stamps on the ship’s log, and the whole crew eats vegan!

Jane announced on last week’s episode that she’ll be leaving the Steve Irwin for now, but there’s a good chance she’ll be back!

From an interview with peta.org:

What was the most rewarding part of your post with Sea Shepherd?
I would say being able to utilize my skills in an appropriate arena—the ocean—and feeling useful. The ultimate for an animal activist is to go on campaign and be in the action and feel the wind and sea spray and life as opposed to being in an office, which, of course, is important as well.

You can catch the Sea Shepherd crew on Whale Wars every Friday evening at 9PM EST on the Animal Planet Channel.

Survivor Alumni Ethan Zohn And Jenna Morasca Go Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 16th, 2009 in Couples, Reality TV.

CBS Presents Survivor Panama Exile Island Finale/Reunion Show

Survivor reality TV alumni Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca are a couple that does everything together-including going vegetarian!

After Ethan’s recent diagonses with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s disease, the couple decided it was a good idea to start watching what they put in their bodies.

And since they were both obvious animal lovers, previously posing for an anti-fur ad, it seemed like one of the best choices the couple could make.

Here’s a tidbit from their recent interview with PETA.

Have you ever considered going vegetarian in the past?
Ethan: I was on a macrobiotic diet when I was younger and my father was ill. My entire family made the change to macro to help my father and the cancer he was battling. In addition, I was a vegetarian for 14 years before going on Survivor.

How did you make the transition? Was it gradual, or did you stop eating meat cold (faux) turkey?
Jenna: We actually made the transition pretty quickly—just cutting out everything right away. Now, with so many great faux-meat products, it’s not as hard as people think anymore to go vegetarian. For instance, in the grocery store are many great faux-meat options, like Gardenburger meatless buffalo chicken wings. Ethan was a huge fan of buffalo chicken wings, so these are a good replacement!

Natalie Portman Making Guest Appearance On Bravo’s Top Chef

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

2009 White House Correspondents Association Dinner

Natalie Portman will be making a special guest appearance on Bravo’s Top Chef in the upcoming season six, which premiers Wednesday, August 26th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Since Nat is a hard core vegan, the cheftestants will probably be given the challenge of whipping up something meatless, eggless, and dairyless for the actress.

Top Chef had a vegan experience last year, when the Food Fighters were invited during the Thanksgiving episode and requested the chefs cater for their crew of 60 people, some of which were vegetarian.

The vegan cornbread stole the show last year. Will another veg dish be a big hit?

Crossing our fingers none of the cheftestants “chicken” out like last year’s Carla and go with a meaty dish when they really wanted to make a vegetarian one.

Susie Feldman Can’t Eat Meat Or Not Recycle

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 in Actresses, Couples, Environment-Eco-Green, Reality TV, Videos.

Susie Feldman, along with husband Corey Feldman, was interviewed by theGreenGirls.com where she shared their secrets for greening both their home and work.

The Two Coreys reality TV star likens recycling to staying vegetarian by stating that because of what she knows about environmental issues, she can’t possibly look the other way.

“I almost feel I can’t throw trash away like I used to,” she says. “I feel guilty. I’m a vegetarian and I feel the same way. I could never just eat meat because of what I know. I can’t just throw away my bottles and cans in the trashcan because of what I know.”

Contestants from the new NBC show Im a celebrity get me out of here give an interview about the upcoming show

The brief stint Torrie Wilson had on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, has caused the former meat eater to go vegetarian and almost vegan.

Guess those meals of worms, cow tongue, and bull testicles kinda turn off the carnivorous desire in you.

During an interview with the Baltimore Sun, Torrie said, “I’ve changed my entire way of eating after the show. I became a vegetarian, almost vegan. I feel wonderful after having the cleansing I had there and getting off sugar.”

Perhaps a little John Salley rubbed off on her? The basketball legend was reported as being “verbally abusive,” as contestants participated in the eating contests because he wouldn’t stop talking about how nasty the delicacies like bull testicles were.

Torrie is a retired fitness instructor, model, and professional wrestler, so she and Diva Tiffany from Extreme Championship Wrestling should hook up and share some recipes.

Torrie came in second to Lou Diamond Phillips and ahead of Salley, who finished third.

Operation Smile Presents The 2009 Smile Event

Sad news for those rooting for John Salley on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

Spider legs Salley came in third, behind Torrie Wilson, and Lou Diamond Phillips taking the cake.

Before the final showdown all three finalist had to endure a “jungle spa,” consisting of creepy crawlers, baby crocodiles, and mealworms to win a gourmet meal.

No one was a loser in that round (or perhaps they all were because they had to put up with that) and all three got their grub on.

John had a tofu burger waiting for him, but Torrie’s meal choice wasn’t too shabby either, as she requested a vegetarian pizza. Lou Diamond? Fried chicken! Boo!

Lou’s charity of choice, Art Has Heart Foundation, will get a fat check for his victory. The organization awards scholarships to lower-income high school students.
