First lady Michelle Obama may look stunning in PETA’s fur free ads that lined the walls of DC Metro Stations, but did she even want to appear in them?

It has been discovered that the animal rights organization did not get Mrs. Obama’s permission to use her photo in the ad, according to the Washington Post and the White House is calling for the posters to be removed.

“We got a call from the White House counsel’s office,” Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA said. “We said to them, we’re not selling a coat, only an idea that glamorous beautiful women who you look up to don’t wear fur. . . . We’re honoring her. Lawyers are lawyers, but PETA is honoring her fashion sense.”

“We didn’t expect them to fund it or endorse it. But “she is in the public domain. . . . This is reporting a statement of fact: She doesn’t wear fur. And our opinion: We think that’s fabulous.”

PETA also did not obtain permission to use Carrie Underwood, Oprah Winfrey or Tyra Banks for the ads, although these celebrities have prior connections to the group.

“Celebrity Big Brother” House Fur Rug Animal Hell

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 1st, 2010 in Fur, Reality TV.

Night Of Heroes - Arrivals

The new Celebrity Big Brother House has been unveiled and residents like Coronation Street‘s Kym Marsh, Stephanie Beacham and MC Hammer will have the chance to cuddle up with some very animal unfriendly furnishings.

BBC News reports:

“Producers have opted for a gothic, hellish decor, based on Dante’s Inferno and philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre’s notion that “Hell is other people”.

Hellish is a mild word to describe the living room area.

From looking at the photos, there are fur rugs and leather sofas.

Sure, there are other scary features like skulls on the pillows, but what could be creepier than lying against the hide of a previous living creature?

Makes you wanna get evicted.

Vegetarian Boy George was banned from the show due to his probation restrictions.

Too bad, because at least he could have cooked veg food for everyone to offset all that bad animal karma (kameleon).

Meatless Mouthful–Tim Gunn On Faux Fur

21st Annual Bailey House Auction And Party

“I’m also not a great fan of faux fur that looks real — I’d much rather have it look fake.”

—-Project Runway fashion mentor Tim Gunn, in an interview with The LA Times.

Sounds like looking through the archives of Fur Real or Fur Fake would be painful for Tim–even when the fur is completely synthetic.

What’s your take on faux fur?

Does knowing the source is synthetic make it easier on the eyes?

Now, things are getting back to normal.

After an anti-fur ad featuring the ladies covered up, PETA is finally getting back to its roots by featuring R & B singer Mario baring his pecs to encourage the ladies (and anyone else who likes a chiseled bod) to not wear fur.

“I’ve been offered deals to wear fur…I’ve been offered [deals] from different fur companies to wear their fur for tour on stage,” Mario says in the video below.

Thank goodness he chose to take PETA’s offer to promote fur free attire instead!

PETA has a new anti-fur poster that was unveiled at Washington, D.C. Metro stops today featuring Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Tyra Banks and Carrie Underwood.

Amazingly, this ad comes with all celebrities wearing their clothing.

And way to go for having one veggie in the group!

Public transportation is the environmentally friendly way to travel, but during December the cold weather can scare even the most enthusiastic tree hugger away from the bus stop and into the car.

Let’s hope this ad reminds the bravest to have compassion for the animals as well as the earth.

And that Tyra stops thinking pork makes vegetables taste better.

PETA Worst Dressed Celebrity Poll To Reveal Furriest Of Them All

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, December 27th, 2009 in Fur.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Wears Fur, And Lots of It!

Winter brings freezing temperatures and a hoard of women rushing to the stores to buy fur to keep warm.

Maybe that’s why PETA chose this time of year to name the Worst Dressed Celebrity, based on that star’s tendency to put on another critter’s hide before leaving home.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, Elizabeth Hurley and Rihanna are expected to find themselves on the list of nominees that readers will choose online.

The “loser” will be announced in February by vegetarian fashion designer Stella McCartney.

Actress Christina Ricci claims those embarrassing titles work.

“I never meant to hurt nor anger anyone with my insensitivity,” said Ricci after being nominated. “For what it is worth, I have received the message loud and clear and will not be wearing fur in the future. I apologise for my offensive actions.”

Wishing everyone on the list best of luck–in changing their attitudes and hearts.

Alexa Chung Brings Faux Fur Back

The 37th International Emmy Awards Gala - Arrivals

The Mirror reports that several celebrities are jumping on the faux fur bandwagon and Alexa Chung may be the trendsetter to thank, due to her taking an interest in faux leopard print fur.

Thank goodness Alexa’s into not wearing the hide of animals, even if they are the animals that she hates.

But should vegetarians and even meat eating animal lovers be sporting fake fur?

Respect For Animals representatives insist that wearing faux fur will, “keep alive the idea that wearing fur is acceptable and fashionable, when it is neither”.

Perhaps faux wearing folks should come with a name tag that reads, “I’m a phony.”

Kate Hudson Goldie Hawn Aspen Colorado–Fur Real Or Fur Fake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 in Actresses, Fur, Fur Real Or Fur Fake.

Kate Hudson Spends Time With Mom Goldie!

Kate Hudson recently spent the day with dear ol’ mom Goldie Hawn in Aspen, Colorado.

Is this like mother, like daughter, keeping fur in the family?

Goldie looks pretty fake, but Hudson…not so sure.

You would think that after spending the evening at compassionate vegetarian designer Stella McCartney‘s store for New York’s Fashion Night Out, Hudson would have learned a thing or two.

If Kate’s fur coat is real, she’d be locked out from Night Out if Stella had anything to do with it.

What do you think?

Is Kate fur real?

Or is she faking it?

(And will A-Rod ever come back to her?)
