Bobby Flay
Bobby Flay is the host of a new reality TV cooking series that pits aspiring restaurant owners against one another in search for America’s Next Great Restaurant.

All the great chefs of today know there’s an increasing number of people who are looking to add plant-based meals into their lives, even if they’re not full time vegetarians.

Which is why we think it’s kind of silly for MSNBC to bash one contestant on the show for thinking vegetarian dining is the future of America.

“The Daily Show” Camel Incident Caught On Tape (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 24th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Videos.

Some of Jon Stewart‘s fans are not laughing after seeing a video posted on YouTube of a camel being handled in icy, cold conditions outside the studio. The animal was scheduled to make an appearance for a skit on the show.

The clip shows the camel being stuck between metal bars, slipping and falling on the icy ground and being yanked aggressively by the handler.

Protesters have been swarming the capital of Madison, Wisconsin to protest changes to the state’s budget. Some have compared the protests to the uprising in Egypt. The Daily Show thought it would be funny to prove Wisconsin is nothing like Egypt, using the camel as a prop.

As expected, not many are seeing the humor.

In case you missed the last episode of NBC’s Parenthood, here’s one of the more important lessons from the episode: If a child is going vegetarian, there’s nothing you can do to stop it. That and make sure you know how to make “Seitan Crappola.”

Six-year old Sydney Graham informs her mother she won’t be eating her former favorite meal of chicken because she’s now gone veg. Mom Julia is supportive, but when grandparents Camille and Zeek come over with Sydney’s former favorite lasagna with meat, there is a show-down.

Stephen Colbert Congratulates Sea Shepherd For Ending Whale Hunt (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 17th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Humor, Videos.

Stephen Colbert took time to congratulate anti-whaling activists and all of those associated with Sea Shepherd after the recent announcement that Japanese whalers have suspended the annual hunt in the Antarctic due to so much interference by activists.

As he wags his finger at “environmentalist blubber huggers,” Colbert understands why whales would be targeted.

After all, they’ve “swallowed our biblical prophets,” like Jonah,  “boy puppets” like Pinocchio and taken”prime sunbathing spots at the beach.”

It’s a shame, because the whalers were only killing them for research purposes, such as finding out what “teriyaki blowhole tastes like.”

The suspension, in addition to the reduced numbers of whales being brought back every year as a result of the Paul Watson lead organization’s tactics, is another sign that Sea Shepherd is accomplishing its mission.

Kathy Freston "Veganist"

Kathy Freston "Veganist"

Kathy Freston made an appearance on “Good Morning America” and shared some of her favorite comfort meals cooked vegan style!

Mock versions of chicken dinners, pastas with meatballs and ice cream are good ways for people to make the transition to a vegan diet, Freston says.

“Take out eating one animal at a time and replace it with the vegan meal that looks like the traditional favorite food and just lean into it. You don’t have to make the change overnight but just gradually move toward vegan food.”

Freston tantalizes Robin Roberts‘ taste buds with vegan Chicken Parmesan, spaghetti bolognese, chicken nuggets and ice cream made from coconut and soy milk. With selections like these, it may be tempting to ditch the whole “gradual” movement and dive right in.

Seitan and soy chicken fingers every night anyone?
