Looking good while protecting the Earth has never been easier or more fashionable, according to an article in the Times Online, which drops well known names such as Stella McCartney and the Matt & Nat brand of handbags.

Stella has extended her collection of leather and fur free items to include organic dresses.

Says the Times:

“It’s now possible to dress ethical for most situations that life throws at you. Bllack Noir, the new, cheaper line from the edgy eco-brand Noir, is great for sparkly party pieces, and you can even go eco in the office with Ascension’s smart tailoring. This new marriage of ethics and exciting design is cause for celebration, especially if you believe in the principle of looking good.”

The Times has conveniently offered ethical designer selections for evening wear, casual, jewelry and office wear.

Going out for a night on the town?

“Bllack Noir uses Fairtrade organic fabrics and runs community projects for its factory workers; Annie Greenabelle, Tara Starlet and Matt & Nat use reclaimed materials; and vegans can feel good about partying in Melissa’s plastic heels.”

Heather Mills “Dancing On Ice” Vegan Skates

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, January 10th, 2010 in Fashion, Reality TV.

Heather Mills Has A New Look And A New Cause?

Heather Mills will be ice dancing in completely leather free skates on this season’s Dancing On Ice.

While this may not be a surprise to those that know Heather is an all in one vegan chef, activist and business owner, it may be surprising to learn obtaining a vegan skate is sometimes harder than earning a perfect 10.

The producers ordered skates for Heather made with completely synthetic material called Clarino made by the skate company Riedell.

“Heather is adamant that she will not wear leather, which is barely a step down from fur as far as she is concerned,” a source said.

“It was part of her conditions for going on the show, which also include an insistence that all her refreshments are vegan.”

“Vegan boots are not unheard of in ice-dancing because leather needs so much looking after, but they are not the standard by any means.”

MacBeth shoes gets a lot of press for its vegan line from celebrities like Hunter Burgan, but has Jason Mraz given TOMS Shoes a publicity boost as well?

The musician was reportedly sporting a pair during what was called a “super chill interview.”

The shoes Jason is wearing look similar to the Dolina line, but the Dolinas are described as having leather insoles.

Is there a Dolina vegan line not yet available to the public?

TOMS does however, have its share of vegan shoes, including a style created to benefit Charlize Theron‘s charity.

Ellen DeGeneres Tim Gunn–Who Would You

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 in Fashion, Polls/Surveys, TV Hosts, Who Would You.

Ellen DeGeneres was named Woman of the Year by PETA for her contributions to promoting vegetarianism and animal welfare.

And who was voted as her male counterpart for the title?

None other than fur hating fashion guru Tim Gunn.

Both Ellen and Tim let their cruelty-free fashion sense do the accessorizing.

Fur is banned from Project Runway and Ellen’s given away vegan handbags to her audience.

You’d love to have both a faux fur coat and a leather-free bag, but if you had to choose between Tim or Ellen, who would you rather do…

21st Annual Bailey House Auction And Party

“I’m also not a great fan of faux fur that looks real — I’d much rather have it look fake.”

—-Project Runway fashion mentor Tim Gunn, in an interview with The LA Times.

Sounds like looking through the archives of Fur Real or Fur Fake would be painful for Tim–even when the fur is completely synthetic.

What’s your take on faux fur?

Does knowing the source is synthetic make it easier on the eyes?

Some things just sound too good to be true.

Like the rumor that Stella McCartney and Morrissey, two longtime vegetarians, are teaming up to design a leather-free shoe.

Negative.

Says official Stella McCartney Fan Page on Facebook:

“Stella is a fan of Morrissey but those rumors of a collaboration for a shoe line are simply not true.”

There’s really no other way to put it but as another fan did:
