Charlize Theron has collaborated with TOMS Shoes company to raise money for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP).

TOMS donated 10,000 pairs of shoes that will be available December 15 2009 and a portion of the proceeds for each pair sold will go towards the CTAOP.

One of the greatest bonus points of this charitable partnership is that the shoes to be sold are vegan friendly!

A description from toms.com reveals a description of the shoes as, “LiViTY eco-textile and vegan friendly construction, embroidered native baobob tree on over-dyed canvas, Lining with Africa Outreach Project logo pattern.”

The shoes are available in both women’s and men’s styles, titled “Baobob Sunset” and “Baobob Night,” respectively.

The CTAOP works to create a safer and more comfortable life for African children and families living in poverty, particularly those with HIV/AIDS.

TOMS is best known for its One for One program, where every pair of shoes purchased is matched with a donated pair to a child in need.

The company features a good selection of vegan friendly shoes made with recycled products.

Charlize Theron Fights Pet Breedism

The Simon Wiesenthal Centers Annual National Tribute Dinner

Singer-songwriter Nellie McKay told us last month during our interview with her that people need to forget the breeds and go for the mutts!

Charlize Theron agrees!

The actress recently donned a “Fight Breedism” T-shirt while walking along the beach with a cute, celebrity mutt alongside her.

Theron was modeling a new T-Shirt available through PETA, which can be purchased online.

The shirt educates as well as makes a fashion statement, including facts like 8 million cats and dogs taken to animal shelters, but less than half are ever adopted.

We don’t have to go into details about what happens to the ones that aren’t adopted, do we?

Get your shirt and spread the word that buying animals really does kill them.

Premiere Of Tetro - Arrivals

Alicia Silverstone is just one of the celebrities that have written to Nobu restaurants, saying they can no longer dine at the establishment because Nobu continues to serve endangered bluefin tuna.

Jemima Khan, Laura Bailey, Charlize Theron, Zac Goldsmith, Sting and Trudie Styler have all added their signatures to the letter.

“The possibility that the magnificent bluefin tuna, one of the fastest creatures on the planet, could be extinct in as little as four years is a tragedy. Continuing to serve bluefin leaves Nobu vulnerable to public criticism and lagging behind Moshi Moshi, Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Itsu and numerous others,” they wrote.

If Gordon Ramsay has stopped serving it in his restaurants, you know Nobu’s got to be living in the dark ages in terms of ethical eating.

The celebrities are asking that bluefin tuna be removed completely from Nobu’s menu.

A spokesperson for Nobu made this statement:

“The consumption of this fish is a cultural institution in Japan and there is still an enormous demand for this delicacy at all our restaurants. In the specific case of the menus at our London restaurants it should be noted that the statement that informs diners that the tuna served is Bluefin was included at the behest of Greenpeace, with whom we have continual dialogue. We are also currently looking at Australian farm-raised tuna as an alternative.”

Replacing one endangered fish with another one that will, ultimately, become threatened if people continue to consume it. Sounds fishy.

How about getting the smell out completely and taking all fish off the menu?
