Graham Elliot

Chicago restaurateur and judge on the new Fox cooking show MasterchefGraham Elliot (who owns an eatery on W. Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson gave 50 dogs displaced from the Gulf Coast oil spill a reason to bark with joy, as she worked with PETA and the SPCA to give the dogs care they needed while drawing attention to the plight of animals that are often forgotten during disasters that affect humans.

“We just wanted to do something practical that I could do hands on and, you know, we’ve all heard what’s happening with the shelters and how they are overrun with animals being surrendered,” she said. “People can’t feed their families, they are losing their jobs or moving in with their families and maybe someone is allergic to pets — who knows what the circumstances are, but the shelters are full of animals that need help.”

If you’re headed to Grant Park for this year’s Lollapalooza, the last thing you have to worry about is finding good meatless food to eat.

The music festival is known for incorporating both green and charitable gestures to the Chicago community, such as refurbishing city monuments and helping to create parks in the city, including the inner city areas, as founder Perry Farrell told Access Hollywood.

There’s also a farmers market west of the Buckingham Fountain with items such as organic fruit and granola to support local farmers. This year there are numerous vegetarian and even vegan food choices, like vegan ice cream from Temptation Frozen Desserts produced by Chicago Soy Dairy offered at the Chow Down South Food court in the park.

If you thought you saw a slimmer, sexier looking former president of the United States from the photos of Chelsea Clinton‘s wedding, you’re right.

Sources say Bill Clinton had a goal of losing 15 pounds before his daughter’s wedding, but exceeded it by losing 23 by following a vegetarian diet.

“She doesn’t think I’m in shape,” Clinton said about Chelsea in April. “You know she told me the other day she said, ‘Dad the only thing you gotta do is walk me down the aisle and you gotta look good.’ So I said, ‘Well, what’s your definition?’ And she said, ‘Oh, about 15 pounds.’ So I’m about halfway home.”

Wonder if Chelsea shared some favorite recipes to help dad lose some of his tire like Thai-Spice Sweet Potato Soup with Gingered Bok Choy.

Green is good. And the judges of Project Runway agreed on that recently when this season’s sustainable designer on the show, Gretchen Jones, won the very first challenge.

Jones, who’s patterns include organic cotton, hand-dyed fabrics and soy fibers, impressed Heidi Klum and the others on the “And Sew It Begins” episode. Ironically, the task was a lesson is using less as well. Instead of starting from scratch, Jones had to create a look using a garment from another contestant’s suitcase.

Jones has said on the show, “I always want to be fashion first. I want you to purchase me because I’m an amazing brand that just happens to be green.”

Nutrition and fitness experts have always warned that deprivation leads to excess eating. So it makes sense that those who are the neediest–when they finally attain food–gorge themselves on not only copious amounts of food, but the high sugar, high fat, empty carbohydrate type leading to obesity.

Lauren Bush, founder of the FEED Projects, recognizes the correlation and now that she’s started FEED USA to combat hunger in the U.S., she’s thinks it’s a perfect platform to tackle childhood obesity as the answer is not to restrict food from the obese but provide them with ample amounts of healthier choices.

“The people that are focused on ending hunger, and the people that are focused on ending obesity often don’t seem to get along – the people that are trying to end hunger are trying to get more food to people while the people trying to end obesity are trying to get less food to people,” the lifelong vegetarian said, according to Fox.
