Kate Moss Meat Free Monday Plans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 in Flexitarian, Food & Drink, Models.

Kate Moss is a Longchamp Girl!

Once upon a time, many steaks ago, Kate Moss was rumored to be a vegetarian.

Now she hosts parties with fur rugs on the floor, but she might try to please one of her best vegetarian friends, Stella McCartney by going vegetarian again for one day a week.

The Sun reported a source said, “Kate has spent time catching up with Stella during Paris Fashion Week and finally agreed to support her friend by going without meat for a day each week.”

Kate’s been snacking on raw and other vegetarian food lately and is thinking of dining once of week with Stella to keep the Meat-Free Monday vow.

The buddy system is a great way to achieve goals like maintaining a regular exercise routine or quitting smoking.

Is a meat-free sponsor what everybody needs to take the plunge to help themselves, the animals and the environment?

Anthony Bourdain On Rude Traveling Vegetarians

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 in Chefs, Not So Vegetarian.

61st Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Anthony Bourdain, celebrity chef, foe of vegetarians and overall smart-ass commented that he’ll eat just about anything except pets.

“I have strong convictions about what’s fluffy and what’s food,” Bourdain said, in the Cape Cod Times.

So Fido, Pixie and Max are off the menu.

And according to Bourdain, vegetarian food should be too if you don’t want to offend your meat eating guests.

“It’s just not polite to be a vegetarian when you travel,” the No Reservations star added.

Since Anthony travels across continents for his culinary adventures, one has to wonder if his rule of etiquette applies to domestic adventures too.

Does he expect vegetarians to shut up and eat the turkey after coming all the way from over the river and through the woods to grandma’s house?

If so, better hope the reindeer takes care of her before you’re halfway there.

Not that you don’t love your grandma.

Anthony describes his worst food experience as eating the “poop chute of a wart hog” while in Kalahari.

Guess he figures sometimes it’s better to be anal.

Anne Hathaway “Alice In Wonderland” White Queen Vegan Pacifist

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 in Actresses, Film & TV, Food & Drink.

82nd Academy Awards Nominations Announcement

Anne Hathaway plays the White Queen in the upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie directed by Tim Burton.

While Anne was studying the role and getting into character, she  came to the conclusion that the White Queen was a total vegan punk.

“When I was trying to work her out, I kept saying to myself, ‘She is a punk-rock, vegan pacifist.’ So I listened to a lot of Blondie, I watched a lot of Greta Garbo movies, and I looked at a lot of the artwork of Dan Flavin. Then a little bit of Norma Desmond got thrown in there, too. And she just kind of emerged. And I really like her. When I first came on board the project, Tim talked a lot about the relationship between the sisters, and that really opened the character up to me a lot. She comes from the same gene pool as the Red Queen. She really likes the dark side, but she’s so scared of going too far into it that she’s made everything appear very light and happy. But she’s living in that place out of fear that she won’t be able to control herself. There’s a lot to play around in. It was awesome. I had so much fun.”

Since Anne is known to flex in her diet, it was probably no issue for her to snack on nuts and salad while eating like the White Queen peacemaker.

Alice In Wonderland is scheduled for release in March.

Chipotle Aims For Organic, Local, Vegetarian Experience

Chipotle Shares Double After IPO

Fast food restaurants traditionally have a bad reputation, but founder of Chipotle, Steve Ells is looking to change that image.

“I think fast food to most people means cheap, highly processed,” he said. “At Chipotle, it’s just the opposite. Everything at Chipotle is fresh, never frozen, with the exception of corn.”

As you learned before, Chipotle is testing out its vegetarian burrito filling in the Washington, D.C. area as part of its mission to support ethical foods.

Here are a few more facts about this healthier chain of restaurants:

1. The cheese and sour cream used are free of synthetic growth hormone rBGH.

2. 45% of Chipotle’s beans are organic.

3. Restaurants buy food from local farmers when available.

Danielle Fishel Comeback Featuring Vegetarian Brothel

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation 20th Annual A Time For Heroes Celebrity Carnival - Arrivals

Remember the days of Boy Meets World, when lovesick nerdy Cory Matthews chased after the hippie vegetarian Topanga played by Danielle Fishel?

Topanga grew up and went to law school…and the show gradually came to an end.

If you haven’t seen much of Danielle since 90s, don’t worry–Black Book Mag has suggestions for how the busty actress can make a comeback.

“What about the story of a butcher whose Chinatown meat market is actually a front for a brothel? Each episode title will be a play on this —“Rump Roast,” “Grade A Beef”—with Fishel as the silk-robe-wearing, chain-smoking den mother who’s seen it all before.”

If all the brothel is serving is rump roast and beef, customers might have a hard time getting hard, given all the saturated fat and cholesterol in animal flesh that clogs the arteries, blocking blood flow to every part of the body.

How about an organic, recycled cotton robe wearing, seitan eating Fishel making otherwise banned sexy veggie videos instead?

Stella McCartney - Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010

Will Gwyneth Paltrow‘s website on health, food and travel, Goop.com, finally get the veggie turnover it needs?

Rumor has it that Paul McCartney has written a column for the actress about his Meat-Free Monday campaign.

Just hope it doesn’t appear before Gwyneth’s recipes for turkey burgers.

“My family and I launched Meat Free Monday in the UK, an idea which has been gaining support from people like Tom Parker-Bowles who, after a lifetime of denigrating vegetarians, recently wrote in his Daily Mail column, “I wince at the memory of my boorish antics” and who pronounced himself “intrigued” by MFM: “There’s no doubting the plain common sense of the message…Meat Free Monday is something to really savour”. Another supporter is Al Gore who stated that initiatives like Meat Free Monday “represent a responsible and welcome component of a comprehensive strategy for reducing global warming pollution and simultaneously improving human health.”

“It’s amazingly easy to take one day in your week, Monday or any other day, and not eat meat. When you think about it, there are so many great alternatives, for instance, in Italian cooking, so many of the dishes are vegetarian already and Thai and Chinese cuisine are the same. All it means is that you have to think a bit about what you’ll eat that day but, in actual fact, far from being a chore, it’s a fun challenge.”
