Ronald McDonald takes part in the 120th Annual Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year's Day

Just like Joe Camel moved to live with all the other cancer and emphysema stricken senior citizens in Florida, some are calling for the retirement of Ronald McDonald, a 50 year old icon that has surely pushed many into obesity, heart disease and other health ailments.

Corporate Accountability International has kicked off a campaign to retire the hamburger clown that was designed to appeal to children.

“McDonald’s, and its iconic clown, is not only the face of the epidemic: it is the engine behind it. No corporation has done more to hook kids on unhealthy food,” said Stacey Folsom, spokeswoman for Corporate Accountability International.

Although they’ve contacted McDonald’s about their wishes, they haven’t received an answer yet.

One bonus, according to SF Gate, is that Ronald McDonald’s image doesn’t appear as often on McDonald’s website.

Maybe his title has changed to hamburger emeritus.

82nd Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Livia Firth got involved in being green three years ago, and more recently she discovered Jonathan Safran Foer, author of the book, Eating Animals, that made her rethink her eating habits.

“I recently read an interview with Jonathan Safran Foer, who wrote the book, Eating Animals, about becoming a vegetarian,” Firth told Ecostiletto. “He pointed out that if you eat meat only one day less a week it’s the equivalent of taking five million cars off the road.”

Firth insists that anyone can make the most of their buying habits, regardless of their budget.

“Once you know these things it becomes less about what background and money you have—it’s about how you behave as a consumer.”

“Instead of buying an economy pack of chicken and eating that every day, eat pasta or vegetables and buy organic chicken once a week.”

Firth tries to buy local and organic whenever possible and has three veggie beds in her garden, something she’s been doing since childhood without attaching the label “green” to it.

“As Italians, the way we grew up was just that way—we cooked only fresh, locally produced food. It just came naturally.”

An Evening with Nurse Jackie

As previously reported, Jennie Garth has become involved with Veggie Central, in an effort to help parents get their children to eat more vegetables.

Garth said she was surprised to learn that so many kids’ idea of fruit is a fruit rollup and that vegetables are often scarce on the plate.

“I was shocked to find out how many kids are not provided with fruits and vegetables every day, which is why I was happy to be a part of this campaign.”

Besides growing her own produce at home, Garth also employs techniques to sneak vegetables into meals, something she learned from Missy Chase Lapine‘s book, The Sneaky Chef, according to Celebrity Baby Scoop.

“We have our own garden and have a great appreciation for fresh vegetables at our house, but I have been known to use The Sneaky Chef cookbook now and then.”

Garth said that is she could do some things about parenting over again, she would only provide her children with organic foods and wishes she’d never introduce her daughter Fiona to sugar.

The 6th Annual ''Pedigree Adoption Drive' New York

Carrie Underwood has donated $10,000 dollars to the Bideawee Manhattan Animal Shelter in Manhattan, New York.

The shelter was grateful for Underwood’s generous donation, and hopes her fans follow her lead.

“We would hope that Carrie Underwood’s fans, who see that she has a dog already, would be interested in coming to shelter and getting a pet through a shelter as opposed to a pet store or a breeder” said Renee Collins, adoption center manager for Bideawee.

According to Popcrunch, Underwood’s Chihuahua named Ace is set to be the ring bearer in her upcoming wedding.

Did you catch Ruben Studdard on the American Idol results show last night?

The camera may add 10 pounds, but that’s no problem for Studdard, who’s lost about 100!

When Ryan Seacrest told Studdard he looked great and asked what his secret was, Studdard replied, “I’m a vegan now, man. Working out everyday.”

Studdard has been a vegan for about six months and said on the Wendy Williams show he enjoys making vegan soul food at home.

Can we still vote for this guy every week?

“The Last Supper” Featuring Judas The Creepy Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 1st, 2010 in Food & Drink, Humor, Offbeat.

Fast food meal.

In honor of both April Fool’s and Easter approaching, we bring you news courtesy of The Spoof.

Although scholars have long thought The Last Supper consisted of bread and wine, new evidence suggests Jesus and the apostles ate at a Burger Queen restaurant in East Jerusalem.

All had burger, fries and diet coke, except for Judas, the “creepy” vegan.

“Judas acted like a complete prick and insisted on lecturing the fast-food clerk on the evils of eating meat and the virtues of vegetarianism. He ordered a salad with French dressing, just hours before making the worst betrayal in human history. Judas was a typical vegan creep.”

After Jesus raised his hamburger bun over his head and turned it into his body and turned his Diet Coke into blood, The Spoof reports that “everyone soon lost their appetite and left the Burger Queen.”

These new findings have prompted the Vatican to team up with Burger Queen to open franchises at all Catholic churches.

Just hope a meatless BQ makes the menu, cause creepy vegans say Hail Marys too, especially when forced to enter a burger restaurant with non vegetarian friends.

Faux Squirrel, Raccoon Created By Former Hunters

CA Championship Wednesday previews

A company owned by former hunters is looking for food scientists to recreate the experience of road kill.

Hunter’s Vegetarian is based in a small town in Alabama, and partners Jim Simmons and Allison Montgomery aren’t satisfied with traditional faux meat found at grocery stores.

“I’m glad I turned vegetarian for my health, but I wouldn’t be lying if I told you I didn’t miss the occasional country critter,” said Simmons.

Simmons is referring to the dozens of squirrels, raccoons and other animals he’d hunt and come home and cook.

He dream might come true soon.

Montgomery, his girlfriend he met on a hunting trip, who also turned vegetarian, just happens to be the daughter of a very prominent scientist at a university who says faux squirrel is as easy to duplicate as soy burgers.

Montgomery’s parent is working on the project part time, while she and Simmons are giving input about the taste. The goal is to complete the final recipe by next year and begin marketing it to local health foods stores like Whole Foods.

“If you can make fake chicken, ham and turkey, why not make fake raccoons?” asked Simmons, adding that if the squirrel and raccoon loafs and tenders do well, they might expand their brand to deer and birds.

Note: This story is a bunch of vegan hogwash. But it’s April 1st, so what were you expecting?

Mayim Bialik at the 'Boom Boom Room' baby event

Mayim Bialik has become the official woman of the house and gotten her husband to stop eating meat!

The former Blossom actress and PhD holder told Parent Dish, “My husband and I read “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer, and my husband has not eaten meat for four months.”

Similarly, Mayim’s other two favorite men are following dad’s lead.

“The boys do not eat dairy or meat or eggs. We also have a kosher home.”

Mayim’s method for getting her family to adopt a meatless lifestyle is accomplished through education, rather than by setting hard fast rules that are expected to be followed.

“It’s actually helpful that my son understands that different people eat different things for different reasons.”
