You not likely to meet a vegan who doesn’t know that Ohio representative Dennis Kucinich won’t be eating turkey today. But there are some vegetarian and vegan politicians who aren’t as vocal about their diets, or at least haven’t gotten as much media coverage.

One of Washington’s Democratic representatives Brian Baird, who’s wrapping up a 12-year run in Congress this year, told Politico he too will be seeking dinner options that go easier on the ecosystems.

“I’m a vegetarian,” Baird said. “Last year, a friend of ours who is a vegan gourmet chef cooked for us. We’ll be enjoying lots of delicious meat-free dishes, which is better for the planet and the animals.”

Fantastic! Keep the “lame-duck” off the table so it can scramble to tie up loose ends during the last few days of the session.

“Earth Balance butter is amazing! It’s a staple. Daiya cheese is too. You just have to find the right products and mix them all together, but it’s totally yummy. I’ve made food for my husband [Channing Tatum] who’s non-vegan and he’s like, ‘That’s really good!’”

Glee may have sustainable eating, veg-friendly actresses like Lea Michele and Jenna Ushkowitz in the cast, but the show could do a little better when it comes to greening the set. At least a recent episode featuring Gwyneth Paltrow as the substitute glee club leader in “The Substitute” could have.

In a behind the scenes clip, Zach Woodlee, co-producer/choreographer of the show estimates they went through 300 umbrellas or so to film a scene putting a modern twist on “Singing In The Rain” by adding some Rihanna lyrics to it. This was because the umbrellas kept breaking during different takes.

For the rest of the season, the cast is ordered to only buy eco-friendly umbrellas, made from things like recycled aluminum and steel, bamboo handles and 100% PET bottles like the Tot eco’Brella.

Rachael Ray is donating $775,000 to animal shelters, charities and other pet organizations by the end of 2010. This charitable gesture is in addition to the proceeds from her dog food and treats she had developed under her name a few years ago, Rachael Ray Nutrish and Just 6, 100% of which goes to animal charities.

In addition, Ray will help host “pop-up” adoption events during the tour to promote her new book, Look + Cook, in various cities.

“It truly brings a smile to my face to know that this money will help so many animals who just need someone to care for them,” said Ray. “This donation should be credited to our loyal consumers and retailers across the U.S. who purchase Nutrish and Just 6 because they to want to help provide for animals that were abandoned or mistreated. For this, I am truly grateful.”

Eve Wouldn’t Wear Her Dog As Fur–Is She Already Doing So? (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 in Female Singers, Fur, Videos.

Eve

Singer Eve gave an interview where she ranted on animal right activists who criticize fur wearers. “Don’t force your opinion upon me. I like fur. And there are a lot of beautiful furs. And I’m gonna rock my fur and you better not throw nothing on me,” Eve said. She then exclaimed, “I wouldn’t wear my dog!”

Ha! We’d love to be the ones who Blow Her Mind. Eve doesn’t even realize that dog fur has been marketed as “other” and incorporated as clothing that’s been sold in the U.S. Even worse, faux fur wearers have been tricked into thinking they were wearing compassion, when they too were wearing dog fur. If you choose to don the fake look, but don’t want to be duped like Eve,  here are some tips to determine if the retail brand you’re wearing hasn’t told a faux about the nature of the fur. These tips are complements of Pierre Grzybowski, manager of the fur campaign for the Humane Society of the United States.
