Ellen DeGeneres, Jonathan Safran Foer “Ellen DeGeneres Show”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 11th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Authors, Food & Drink, Videos.

Jonathan Safran Foer spoke with Ellen DeGenres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he created the scenario of whether or not people agree it’s okay to eat meat.

Foer said that while most people say yes, the answer may change when you consider the consequences of modern day factory farming like reduced antibiotic efficiency, environmental damage and pregnant animals living unnatural lives confined in cages.

“Nobody wants that,” Foer said. “I don’t care how much or how little you care about animals.”

Kelly Ripas Cake-Off For A Cause New York City

Kelly Ripa gets no points for eating even smaller portions of meat for dinner, but her snack choice throughout the day is one to look at.

US Magazine hints that Ripa ditches the beef jerky and opts for almonds instead.

When you consider the benefits of nuts like almonds, you’d have to be nuts not to incorporate them in your diet.

The Mayo Clinic says nuts offer good for your cholesterol unsaturated fat, omega 3 fatty acids that you’d normally have to be a pescatarian to get, fiber and vitamin E.

And according to the Food and Drug Administration, a serving of nuts a day (1.5 ounces, or 42.5 grams) may help prevent heart disease when you follow an otherwise healthy diet.

Grab your favorite mix of almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachio nuts or walnuts today.

They’ll give you the energy you need to complete Ripa’s routine for getting your own arms of steel.

NBA: Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Clippers

Amar’e Stoudemire is on a break from practicing with the Phoenix Suns and says he’s using the time off to go on a 4 day vegan fast.

“With my four days off, I’m really taking time off to purify my body, and get my body in top shape for these last 16-17 games. So right now, I’m on a vegan fast.”

Although he may opt of out his contract and become a free agent, he hints that he’ll stay in Arizona if the team can “meet his number.”

His hard work and dedication to putting the best in his body has earned him 22.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season.

Is this why AZ Central calls him a “predator fueled by vegetables?”

“I don’t see any point in asking waiters difficult questions. It just makes people uncomfortable. I never, ever get into arguments with people. I don’t think it works. If someone asks me why I no longer eat meat, I explain. This book is an occasion to express what I think.”

Sounds like Foer is the most easy going vegetarian in the world.

A famous teen idol, Haim was trying to make a comeback and expressed interest in several movies with producer Tim Vogel, including one romantic comedy titled The Vegetarian Hunter.

“He was interested in playing the lead role,” Vogel said.

Vh1 also says that Vogel added:

“We had sent him a script, and he loved it. He wanted to shoot that. We were going to do it in upstate New York. Basically, it’s about a hunter who goes to New York, falls head-over-heels for a girl he meets who is vegetarian, he becomes vegetarian, and she does good things to animals that backfire. It’s a romantic comedy.”

Ryan Gosling Asks McDonald’s To Use Humane Slaughter Practices

82nd Academy Awards Foreign Language Film Award Directors Reception

Ryan Gosling has voiced his concerns over what PETA says are outdated slaughter practices fast food giant McDonald’s is practicing.

In a letter to McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner, Gosling pointed out that although there are no laws governing chicken slaughter in the U.S., Europe has already adopted a more humane way of slaughter.

“Dear Mr. Skinner, I was shocked to learn from my friends at PETA that McDonald’s, a company that claims to be an industry leader in animal welfare, still allows its suppliers to use an outdated chicken slaughter method that results in broken wings and legs and causes birds to be scalded to death in defeathering tanks.”

Gosling wrote a similar letter to officials at KFC Canada in 2008 and the company that coordinates purchases for those KFCs is currently in the process of phasing in all their chickens from suppliers that use this method.

No chickens killed is the best, but more humane slaughter methods are a step in the right direction.
