Andy Dick As Ronald McDonald: McCruelty Funny Or Die Video

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, August 24th, 2009 in Actors, Animal Issues, Videos.

A hilarious video has made it’s way to the Funny or Die series.

Andy Dick dressed up as Ronald McDonald (complete with cleaver he brought with him) gets interviewed by Martin Short’s Jiminey Glick.

The video was created as part of the campaign to pressure McDonald’s to discontinue its methods of killing and move to a more humane version-Controlled Atmosphere Killing.

Watch the video and go to the website to vote cause this one’s too funny, yet too serious as well, to die.

Brian Boitano Made What We Wouldn’t Have

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, August 24th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Food & Drink.

34th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Entertainment Emmy Awards - Arrivals

So yesterday we gave a short notice to remind everyone to tune into the Food Network channel for the new Brian Boitano cooking show, What Would Brian Boitano Make?

Brian had told Mother Nature Network he prefers following a near vegetarian diet to be more eco-friendly.

However, for the first episode, we’re going to be that nasty ice skating judge that gives the 6 when everyone else gives a 9.9. Here’s why.

Brian opened up going gaga over a crab meat appetizer. Sure, there were vegetables mixed with it, but we would have preferred a bean spread.

His next dish was a little more promising-sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese skewers. This doesn’t please the vegans, but at least his left flesh off the stick.

Finally, he almost impaired our judgement when he announced his last dish for the day was polenta with spicy sausage and red peppers.

For someone who follows a “mostly vegetarian” diet, Boitano seemed a little off course for the day.

Hopefully, he won’t make the show a Gwyneth Paltrow, “I say I eat mostly vegetarian but show meaty dishes in my public projects” kind of thing.

Barack Obama Caught Eating Fruit. Gasp!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, August 24th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Politicians.

U.S. President Obama eats fruit at a market after town hall meeting in Virginia.

Take a good look, folks.

It may be a dozen burger joints before you see something like this again.

Barack “Burger Boy” Obama was photographed eating a nectarine at Kroger’s after a town hall meeting in Virginia.

Is he taking Whole Foods CEO John Mackey’s advice and setting an example for health care?

After all the cow meat rendezvous ( Ray Hell’s, Five Guys, steak at his White House pad), it’s refreshing to see Mr. President making a great example by munching on something healthy.

From his facial expression, it almost looks as if he’s on some top secret mission to eat the apricot, though.

Are there Secret Service men hiding underneath the plums?

Is he thinking of switching the signs to get a better deal on those $2.99 limes?

No, stop it… Don’t make fun of the pres. Only reward him for the good behavior!

Central Park SummerStage - Juliette Lewis, Cat Power & The Pretenders

Have you driven down the street lately to find your favorite restaurant closed shop because of the bad economy?

Less bank money in the bank means more visits to your home kitchen, which sadly can force many businesses to make their last supper.

Luckily for Chrissie Hynde, the vegan restaurant she opened in 2007, The Vegiterranean, is still standing strong.

“We’re about breaking even, which is really good for a restaurant.,” Hynde said. “My only interest in it is the cow protection and also to bring life back into the downtown.”

Great food and word of mouth is what has kept her doors revolving and the ovens burning.

The Vegiterranean name is often dropped in the veg community for things like awesome faux chicken sandwiches, burgers that put beef to shame, and not to mention its superstar of a co-owner.

But Chrissie never intended to be a big shot.

“I always say I have no ambitions. But that is my ambition.”

The Cinema Society & Hugo Boss Screening of Inglourious Basterds - Arrivals

Moby just kicked off a series of concerts meant to help raise climate change awareness, the “Play to stop – Europe for climate,” a joint venture with MTV and the European Commission.

When Moby asked Al Gore why he didn’t include going vegetarian in the documentary on being green and saving the planet, “An Inconvenient Truth,” he got an “honest” answer.

“I asked Al Gore about why he didn’t mention this in ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ [as animal production is responsible for more greenhouse gases than every car, bus, truck, bus, plane and boat on the planet combined]. He answered honestly, basically saying that getting people to drive a hybrid car isn’t that difficult. Getting people to give up animal products is almost impossible. I appreciated his honesty.”

But wonder how many part time vegetarians could have been created if the diet was a least brought up sometime in the film?

Perhaps if those that label themselves environmentalists really knew the truth about the waste of resources and gas emissions from cows in the fields, they’d be motivated to at least stop eating meat for a day or two a week.

We’ll never know.

Gerald McCullouch Eats Veg In His Sustainable New York Pad

Gerald McCullouch At The Beverly Hills Transformed With Spectacular Light Installation

Gerald McCullouch made a name for himself in the acting business playing gun expert Bobby Dawson on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He’s currently filming for the upcoming movie, BearCity.

It doesn’t take a forensic scientist to know the keys to solving the mystery of lessening the damage to the Earth lies in making several eco-conscious decisions across the board, including practicing vegetarianism.

He’s what New York Daily News calls “an occasional raw foodist” and several years ago bought and renovated a New York city apartment for only $295,000-all while keeping it sustainable and green.

“I wanted to keep my carbon footprint as low and cost-efficient as possible,” said McCullouch. “Actors sometimes have to live paycheck to paycheck, and it was important to keep my energy expenditures down.”

Short notice, but if you tune into the Food Network channel today at 1PM EST, you’ll see the premiere of former figure skating champion Brian Boitano do his thing on the new show, What Would Brian Botano Make?

WWBB  Make is bound to be cool, because, according to Mother Nature Network, Brian follows a more eco-friendly diet that consists of mostly vegetarian food, with a little fish here and there.

“I think my carbon footprint is pretty light,” Boitano said.

Check out the clip above to see Brian shake his hips and dance with a pepper grinder.

We give it a 10 for both style and technique!
