Moby Balances Healthy And Junk Vegan Food

McCartney Family Launch Meat Free Monday - Photocall

Nothing like combining a cold glass of soy milk, fresh fruit, high protein nuts and a bag of potato chips.

Moby discussed the task of balancing eating healthy with eating junk food.

“When I’m on tour, I definitely eat a lot of comfort foods. Part of it is because you never know when you’re going to eat well again. So if you have the opportunity to eat well, you’re going to eat as much as possible.”

“At home, it’s that balance between vegan junk food and really healthy food. It’s like every now and then, lunch will consist of vegan tacos and then steamed broccoli and keen-wa (Quinoa) . I mean, they’re both relatively healthy, but…”

Moby’s favorite vegan junk foods are vegan tempura or onion rings.

What’s your favorite vegetarian junk to balance with an otherwise healthy diet of tempeh, brown rice and tomato soup?

Georges Laraque On Tofu, Payless Shoes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 12th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Fashion, Food & Drink.

Montreal Canadiens v Toronto Maple Leafs

In the midst of the press, Georges Laraque took off one of his shoes.

He didn’t throw it at George W. Bush, but instead took the time to educate a reporter about animal-free shoes.

“Even my shoes. I got this pair I’m wearing from Payless, paid $40 for them. I don’t wear leather now,” Laraque said.

The Montreal Canadienes player went vegan in June, but that doesn’t mean he’s a tofu fanatic.

“I never really liked tofu but when you decide to make that switch, it’s not that hard,” he said.

“When you see what an animal goes through, it would have been way tougher for me to contribute to the meat industry. I mean, I never really liked tofu but if this was a diet, it might have been harder because maybe you’d miss the meat. But I am doing it because of the animals, so it’s totally different.”

And despite the fact he might be buying more shoes this season, he’s really gung ho about synthetics.

“Payless Shoes,” Laraque emphasized. “They won’t last as long, but I’m not mistreating any animals, so it’s perfect.”

Not to mention, Payless has some eco friendly Zoe and Zac footwear for the ladies now.

“Project Runway” Cruelty Free “Divorcee Dress Challenge” Stephanie

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 12th, 2009 in Fashion, Reality TV.

61st Primetime Emmy Awards Nominees For Outstanding Costumes Kick-Off Party

A recent episode of Project Runway with anti-fur fashion guru Tim Gunn highlighted a newly singled woman’s mission to make a fresh start in the most kindest of ways.

Divorcee Dress Challenge “Stephanie” asked Nicolas to take her wedding dress and turn it into something she could wear for everyday use.

But Stephanie wasn’t just looking to turn a train into a tube top. She wanted her outfit to be free from wool, leather, silk and fur.

The New York Post joked about Stephanie’s “cruelty-free” request.

“Tim sends in their divorcees. I think Tim just likes to Frenchify words whenever c’est possible. Gordana’s divorcee wants to attract a young ruffian of the street, Shirin’s divorcee wants to be a “Cher half-breed,” and Nicolas’ divorcee wants her new look to be cruelty free and preferably made out of organic granola. Nicolas can’t guarantee it will be cruelty-free, because having to deal with Nicolas is the cruelest joke of all.”

Yay for Stephanie!

With a heart like hers, she’s sure to make a great new start for herself.

Fearne Cotton attends the Macmillan Cancer Charity Auction in London, UK

Fearne Cotton admitted she has a fetish for handbags.

Mulberry is my favourite handbag brand and I probably have 15 of them,” the self-confessed shopaholic admitted to Heat magazine. “I love their Bayswater bag – I’ve just ordered a new leopard-print one – and then a couple of those little Mables, some of their big carriers and some luggage.”

No one said you can’t indulge and consume your heart out every now and then, but should vegetarian Fearne really be picking up that Bayswater or Mables bag?

A search indicates many of the bags, if not all, are made from leather.

Besides taking an animal’s skin, the process that turns leather to a finished product involves toxic chemicals like formaldehyde.

Fearne should develop the shopaholic syndrome for vegan Matt & Nat handbags.

Leilani Munter “Project Green Search” Vote

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 12th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Environment-Eco-Green.

Global Green USA's 6th Annual Pre-Oscar Party

Leilani Munter, professional race car driver, environmentalist and vegetarian is competing in the Project Green Search.

Voting takes place today October 12 through October 16.

The top 10 finalists go to Los Angeles November 2-8 to compete to be the next green “it girl” to advocate environment, animal welfare, fair trade and human rights.

An excerpt from Leilani’s essay at Projectgreensearch.com:

“Last year ESPN Magazine has described me as “an oxymoron: a tree hugging race car driver.” Before I was a race car driver, I was a biology graduate from the University of California in San Diego, and I am really just your typical recycling, composting, treehugging vegetarian hippie chick that just happens to drive race cars. I am an uncommon messenger in the environmental world I know, but Earl Bakken made some sense of it for me when he said…”

“By all reckoning, the bumblebee is aerodynamically unsound and shouldn’t be able to fly. Yet, the little bee gets those wings going like a turbo-jet and flies to every plant its chubby little body can land on to collect all the nectar it can hold. Bumblebees are the most persistent creatures. They don’t know they can’t fly, so they just keep buzzing around.”

Vote for Leilani and read her entire essay at projectgreensearch.com.
