Although She Doesn’t Care…Kareena Kapoor Won Sexiest

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 16th, 2009 in Actresses, Bollywood.

We mentioned earlier that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor said she couldn’t understand the point of the “sexiest vegetarian” lists that she constantly makes.

But news is news and the sexiest are here. Kareena won World’s Sexiest Vegetarian, along with her male counterpart Sreesanth in the annual contest held by PETA India.

Lots of people cared about R Madhavan, Aditi Gowitrikar, Vishal Dadlani, Kailash Kher, as well as Alicia Silverstone, Pamela Anderson, Hansika Motwani, Mallika Sherawat, Mahima Chaudhary, Rajneesh Duggal, Sir Paul McCartney and Moby.

But unfortunately for the runners up, people didn’t care enough to cast their votes for them.

“When you look at the dozens of gorgeous celebrities in this year’s poll, there are no bones about it – a vegetarian diet makes you beautiful inside and out”, says PETA India’s Anuradha Sawhney.

Congratulations to the sexiest. For whatever the list is worth.

Pamela Anderson Doesn’t Want A Man Like Dear Old Dad

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 16th, 2009 in Actresses.

Strutting her stuff in a tiny black jumpsuit, Pamela Anderson leaves a Lucques restaurant

When former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson was a young girl, she watched her father cut off the head of an animal he had hunted. That led to her becoming vegetarian in her early teens.

The old saying is that a woman wants a man just like dear ol’ dad, but apparently this can never be the case when it comes to beliefs about animals.

There was speculation that her and Kid Rock divorced over him having no problem hunting. We already know he has no problem with fur.

Neither Tommy Lee, nor Rick Salomon, nor Kid Rock have captured her heart permanently.

Pam was seen strutting around town with this unnamed gentleman recently. Could he be Pammie’s new compassionate love?

Meatless Mouthful: Russell Brand Milks Himself

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 16th, 2009 in Actors, Celebrity Tweets, Comedians, Meatless Mouthful.

Bedtime Stories Premiere - Los Angeles, CA

“Not vegan yet, i eat cheese made from my own milk, however i am farmed inhumanely and shall report myself to the UN at dawn.”
—comedian Russell Brand in response to a question on his Twitter if he was a vegan. Salma Hayek has been making headlines about breastfeeding babies that aren’t hers-maybe Russell is stocking up on the breast pumps for an entrepreneurial adventure?

We’d like to look more into this “farmed inhumanely” situation. Russell doesn’t seem to be the type you should keep caged…Or should you?

Russell’s Twitter, rustyrockets, is becoming quite popular, gaining 2,000 followers in the first 20 minutes when it launched last month.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will be honored by the Humane Society next month for their love of animals, so it’s both ironic and disappointing that it’s been brought to our attention that vegan Ellen is the Cover gal for Cover Girl cosmetics, a company that still tests on animals.

Even more ironic, the ads featuring Ellen will debut around the time she is given her award.

Deceiver.com put its ever so sarcastic slant on things:

Proposition 2, eh? I remember that. It was right around the time she signed up to become Cover Girl’s newest spokesmodel, despite the fact the beauty company is the largest that still tests on animals. Die, bunnies!

Ironically those print ads just started appearing in the March issues of all the magazines. Great timing there, HSUS.

We’ve learned before that celebrities don’t always investigate companies before representing them. We’ve also learned that celebrities make decisions that seem to completely contradict other behaviors.

Even Portia called Ellen out on their first date for wearing calfskin leather.

The decision to live ethically is an ongoing process of keeping informed and doing your research. Have you supported a company in the past only to stop after finding out some of their business decisions were against your beliefs?

PETA After McDonald’s…Again

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 16th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink.

OTH: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Nov. 27

PETA has relaunched its campaign against McDonald’s since it originally did so in 2000, because the company continues to use outdated methods to kill chickens.

The current methods involve chickens being dumped from the transport carriers, hung upside down, their throats slit while still being conscious, with some even boiled in hot water while still being able to feel pain, according to the PETA McDonald’s campaign website.

A similar campaign was launched against KFC, which PETA won in Canada, and now not only are Canadian KFCs moving towards complete Controlled Action Killing (CAK), they’re offering a vegan faux chicken sandwich as well. CAK involves replacing Oxygen with a gas that slowly puts the chickens to sleep.

After PETA launched its original McCruelty campaign in 2000, McDonald’s had agreed to work towards better welfare for its chickens, but almost a decade after original talks, not much has changed.

Alexandra Aitken Not Alienating People With Yoga, Veganism

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 16th, 2009 in Actresses, Business.

Although she makes an appearance as the Nightclub girl in her most recent movie, How To Lose Friends and Alienate People, Alexandra Aitken doesn’t have a lot of party gal inside her.

‘I don’t smoke, I don’t drink and I’m vegan,’ she said, according to the UK Daily Mail. ”I meditate for hours every day. It’s given me much more energy.”

Meditation is more than a personal hobby, but a business of hers as well. She’s a yoga teacher, offering classes in Kundalini yoga and Gong Healing-a technique that uses sounds and vibrations to help you relax.

Nothing about a gong or being vibrated sounds relaxing, but we trust Alexandra and thousands of others who rely on the practice.

After completing seven months of intensive training at a California retreat, Alexandra decided to open up shop on her own.

Morrissey is often recognized as the most important British musician of his generation. Jimmy Osmond: Ice Cream Nemesis, Veg Diet, And Health

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 16th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Singers.

**UK OUT** Jimmy Osmond arrives at The Ivy restaurant in London

Jimmy Osmond is the youngest of what was practically a musical royalty-the family that includes Donny and Marie-the Osmonds.

Although he tries to stick to a vegetarian diet, he does have an occasional McDonald’s breakdown every now and then.

‘My nemesis is ice cream – I love it so much – and I do have the occasional McDonald’s cheeseburger, but generally I avoid foods such as red meat and fry-ups,” Osmond told the UK Daily Mail.

“Actually, I try to stick to a vegetarian diet.”

The singer has a congenital defect that led to a stroke a few years ago, Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) – a hole in the septal wall that separates the right and upper left chambers of the heart.

After other Osmond siblings (who remain anonymous) were tested, it was revealed they too had the same congenital condition.

Jimmy’s illness surprised him because he always felt healthy, had normal test results at the doctor, and although his family had a tendency to put on weight easily, he remained for the most part healthy.

He serves as proof that no one is immune to serious illness, regardless of health and diet. As vegetarians or vegans, we often think we are invincible, without realizing that even diet can only protect you from so much.

Have you or a fellow veg you know suffered a serious health problem that had nothing to do with your diet and lifestyle. Was it hard to accept and cope with, since you knew you were doing all you could to be healthy?
