Jason Mraz Does Vitamineral Green For Breakfast

Jason Mraz performs at Le Zenith, Paris

Vegan singer and musician Jason Mraz has recently revealed on his blog what he consumes for the most important meal of the day.

“The secret to a great day is how you start your day. And for the past year and a half I’ve avoided eating a heavy traditional breakfast. Instead, I merrily jumpstart my day with the ever-so-awesome Vitamineral Green from Healthforce Nutritionals”

“One heaping scoop of this stuff in the morning provides an insane amount of goodness for the body. The powdered greens (from dehydrated plants and algae among other things) taken by itself is enough to live on. It goes straight to the blood and straight to the brain and stays with you all day. I stir mine every morning with ONE-Brand Coconut Water, but I prefer to blend it also with some Flax Oil, Freelife Goji Juice, Avocados, Maca Spice (the Peruvian Viagra) and a few dates. I even do Cayenne pepper on mornings that I want something savory. The flavor options are unlimited and there’s no way you can overdose on the stuff.”

“Think about it for a second, would you rather start your day with something fattening and/or sugary that ends up around your waist or deep in your ass, or would you rather feel light and energized with a glow that people can recognize? Remember, you are what you eat.”

Healtforce Nutritionals is a 100% gluten-free product company that is probably anointing Jason’s feet with oil now that they’ve gotten such a big plug.

Alyssa Milano On Food Safety: Take Part 2

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Videos.

So we gave you John Salley’s PSA from the Takepart.com series where celebrities discuss the food safety issues featured in Robert Kenner’s Food Inc.

Take Part 2.

Vegetarian Alyssa Milano also has a clip where she urges consumers to practice food safety measures and “feed their minds” by becoming educated on food borne illnesses.

Of course, it’s hard to “know your food,” when it comes from dozens of different sources, starting with the animal.

“One hamburger contains meat from 50-100 cattle,” says Alyssa.

Fifty to 100 cattle? Yeah, pretty hard to learn and remember all their names. Safer to just eat a veggie burger.

Ruben Studdard Shows All Vegs Don’t Have To Be Skinny

Radio Ones 25th Anniversary Awards Gala

The word is that American Idol season 2 winner Ruben Studdard is back on the veg wagon, after gossip that he had fallen off.

According to Ruben, he’s feeling better than ever and in great health, despite not having a 32 inch waistline.

“I am a vegetarian now and I think that’s the one thing that saved me from being over the top. I also work out every day and have a trainer on the road with me. I saw pictures of myself at the beginning of ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Ruben Studdard CD and I look like a whole other person now. I’m down like five or six pants sizes. I’ve been a vegetarian for about two and a half years now. I probably miss fried chicken the most. I feel better. You can’t pay for the way you feel after you start. I’m not saying that people who eat meat don’t feel great because I’m sure they do, but it works for me. I don’t want people that sell meat to be knocking on my door saying, ‘You’re still fat. You ain’t lost that much weight.'”

Hey, who said going veg was about going thin?

Are you a “pleasantly plump” or “thick” veg who still has low cholesterol and a kick ass resting heart rate? Did dropping the hot dog bring you health benefits, even if it didn’t bring you six pack abs or a size 2 dress?

Several celebrities have recorded PSAs that deal with issues discussed in Food Inc., a movie where filmmaker Robert Kenner exposes the truths about our nation’s food supply, from the pitfalls of factory farming to safety of workers harvesting food in the fields.

NBA legend John Salley has recorded a clip titled “Animals As Food”, where he discusses the unpleasant realities of factory farmed meat.

“Believe it or not, most supermarket food does not grow on that pretty little farm you see on the package,” John says, as he makes a pitch for vegetarianism, citing the pollution caused from livestock gases.

PETA is definitely the type of organization that looks for world domination.

They’ve recruited dozens of US and European celebrities to front anti-fur, vegetarian, and other animal rights campaigns and are inching in on South America with Lydia Guerra.  Now, Irish animal lovers will be proud to call Suzanne McCabe their own as she’ll be starring in PETA’s first “I’d Rather Go Naked than Wear Fur” campaign in the country.

McCabe recently turned vegetarian as well, so it couldn’t get any better!

“It’s not tacky at all; it’s very tastefully done,” McCabe said. “You can’t really see anything, but it still gets the message across, which is the most important thing.”

“My parents weren’t overly delighted when they heard about the nudity, but they know how important the cause is to me and I know once they see the pictures they will be happy.”

“It’s incredibly exciting because this is the first time this PETA campaign has ever been done here.”

McCabe’s ad is expected to go public by the end of the summer.

BMIs 57th Annual Pop Awards - Arrivals

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks has announced she would like to give seitan and tofu a try.

“Eventually I’d like to be a vegetarian because I think it’s healthier for me,” Jordin said, according to famousveggie.net.

The singer recently revealed to Self Magazine that for the first time in her career, she’s brought along a  professional trainer on her tour with the Jonas Brothers.

“Last year, I didn’t do anything to stay in shape on tour,” Jordin said. “I just kind of loved the fact that I was on tour. But I was exhausted all the time, and I realize now, if I had worked out and ate healthier and made smarter choices, I would have had a lot more energy onstage.”

Will her new healthier lifestyle change include her own personal veggie chef on tour as well?

Will Jordin make the plunge and join Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler as Idol veggie queens?

Natalie Portman Making Guest Appearance On Bravo’s Top Chef

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

2009 White House Correspondents Association Dinner

Natalie Portman will be making a special guest appearance on Bravo’s Top Chef in the upcoming season six, which premiers Wednesday, August 26th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Since Nat is a hard core vegan, the cheftestants will probably be given the challenge of whipping up something meatless, eggless, and dairyless for the actress.

Top Chef had a vegan experience last year, when the Food Fighters were invited during the Thanksgiving episode and requested the chefs cater for their crew of 60 people, some of which were vegetarian.

The vegan cornbread stole the show last year. Will another veg dish be a big hit?

Crossing our fingers none of the cheftestants “chicken” out like last year’s Carla and go with a meaty dish when they really wanted to make a vegetarian one.
