And who says real men don’t eat rabbit food.

Travis Fran Healy Pays Paul McCartney Vegetarian Royalties

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, January 10th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Travis Performs At The Wiltern

When Paul McCartney agreed to perform on TravisFran Healy‘s solo album, Healy paid McCartney back in a gift worth more than a million dollar record contract.

Healy, his wife and one year old son have all turned vegetarian, the singer wrote on his blog, according to The Guardian.

“Nora [Healy’s wife] and I were sitting and thinking of a thank-you present and I suggested going vegetarian. Our son is already one, so it would mean we would all be on the same boat. I met Paul at his show in Berlin and told him what we wanted to do. He was visibly flabbergasted. Three days later the FedEx man delivered three Linda McCartney [vegetarian] cook books.”

Healy says he doesn’t miss his old diet and enjoyed hummus this past Christmas.

“I haven’t had any longing for meat or fish yet.”

It’s fantastic that Healy made a decision that’s better for the health of his family.

Sure  hope he keeps it up.

Going back to cheeseburgers may be a breach of contract worth years of court time over intellectual property.

Alicia Silverstone, Ellen DeGeneres Make Whole Foods Popular

Alicia Silverstone The Kind Diet Book Launch Party

There are numerous reasons why people are including more unprocessed foods in their diets, including the fact these foods are a cheaper, healthier and more gentle on the environment and animals.

But could Alicia Silverstone‘s cookbook The Kind Diet, Ellen Degeneres offering her recipe for vegan tacos and Alanis Morissette talking about kale have an effect on how the grocery budget is spent in the next few years?

Says a statement from prweb:

“Celebrities and sports figures are defining the trend. Well-known stars and musicians, including Ellen DeGeneres, Alicia Silverstone, Alanis Morissette, and Moby share their plant-based dietary choices. Athletes on a whole foods diet have a performance edge without steroids. A sampling of athletes sticking to a diet based on whole foods includes Brendan Brazier, ultra marathon champion, Ruth Heidrich, triathlete with over 900 wins, Pat Neshek, Minnesota Twins pitcher, and Salim Stoudamire, Atlanta Hawk’s shooting guard.”

Has a famous veggie influenced the way you cook at home?

Or is learning the Prince Fielder bats like a vegan news to you?

Kirstie Alley Going Vegetarian For Animals?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Celebrity Tweets, Food & Drink.

Hollywood Film Festival's 11th Annual Hollywood Awards - Backstage

Kirstie Alley is one of those celebrities vegetarians loathe-she went veg, had a bad experienced and blabbed about it.

“I can’t tell you how much weight I gained being a vegetarian!” Kirstie said. “A vegetarian would probably be eating vegetables.”

You can probably guess from Kirstie’s statement she wasn’t eating vegetables.

But Kirstie recently expressed her desire to go veg again, this time partly for animal welfare reasons.

“I would love to become a vegetarian or at least eat very little meat,” Kirstie Tweeted. “The way animals are ofted is very brutal. I always struggle with this.”

Wow.

This isn’t just some Hollywood starlet trying tofu to take off the extra pounds!

Could Kirstie’s concern with animals raised for meat be the kicker she needs to learn the right way to eat vegetarian?

Jonathan Safran Foer–Vegetarian Stereotype Is Caring Person

If you ever get tired of hearing people describe what they think the stereotypical vegetarian is, take heart in knowing best selling author Jonathan Safran Foer has a great counter argument.

Vegetarianism is about caring, Jonathan insists.

And regardless of race, gender, geographic location or religious affiliation, most people really do care.

From expressnightout.com:

EXPRESS: And those words are so caught up in issues of identity and lifestyle. If you’re a vegetarian, it means you a certain type of person…

FOER: But caring about it makes you every sort of person. I’m not saying that as an exaggeration. Ninety-six percent of Americans think animals deserve legal protection, which is a radical statistic if you think about it. That means if you don’t care, you are way on the margins of society. It’s not Berkeley, it’s Middle America. It’s very Christian, very Judeo-Christian, and Muslim to worry about dominion, to worry about stewardship. Just mainstream values. If at my readings I could have had a mini factory farm up there with me, people would call the cops. People would leave. Nobody is okay with it in my experience, and I wish the conversation could reflect that instead of asking if you think it’s right or wrong to eat meat, which is actually a totally unimportant question. The answer to that question doesn’t really matter, given the world we live in. I don’t even know my answer to that question.

So, if most people care, how do we get more of them to go veg?
