Damien Fahey Hosts The TRL Wrap Party

John Norris, MTV news correspondent, likes his candy dirty. The vegetarian restaurant in New York city, Dirt Candy, ran by Moby’s former chef Amanda Cohen, has earned his praises.

The vegan wrote about his love of Dirt Candy recently on newyork.decider.com.

“When Dirt Candy opened on East 9th Street last October, it was initially a “find.” Suffice it to say that much of the city has found it. The place is packed night after night, and for good reason: From jalapeno hush puppies to spinach soup with tofu dumplings, from carrot risotto to crispy tofu with green ragout, the restaurant boasts one of the freshest, most inventive vegetarian menus in town. Amanda Cohen, Dirt Candy’s chef/owner, boasts a résumé that includes such treasures as Angelica Kitchen, Pure Food and Wine, and the late, lamented Heirloom. And not only are all of Amanda’s dishes vegetarian, they can all be made vegan—even better. The only suggestion I would offer Dirt Candy: Triple in size! Then maybe I could get in as often as I’d like.”

Ironically, Cohen and her restaurant were criticized by some vegans when it first opened, due to some statements she made to the media about them and the food.

Looks as if John Norris doesn’t take a bit of offense!

Meatless Mouthful: Heather Mills Nuts, Hated By Everyone

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 in Meatless Mouthful, Models.

Heather Mills Named Honorary Chair Of Hunts Point Alliance For Children
“Everyone thinks I’m nuts because I speak the truth and I’m very outspoken. The meat industry hates me, the dairy industry hates me, the Beatle industry hates me, the landmine industry. So I have a lot of enemies out there. But I also have a lot of support.

—-Heather Mills, in a speech given at a vegetarian show in London recently. Love her or hate her, Heather has certainly put her footprint in the media. And although she may be viewed as erratic by some, she continues to be a vocal activist for the veg life and animals.

What’s your opinion on Heather? Does she appear too nutty in public with her words and antics? Or is it just her free spiritness and passion for her work that drives her behavior?

PETA Defends Steakhouse Strippin’ Pamela Anderson

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 18th, 2009 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

Pamela Anderson at the Millionaire Fair in Amsterdam

The veg gal Pamela Anderson recently agreed to launch the opening of a strip club. A strip club located in a steakhouse.

While we feel this isn’t the best example a vegetarian should be setting, PETA is defending one of its biggest partners in meatless crime. A statement from the organization:

“Pam is not a host but may be attending as an invited guest, and since steakhouses nowadays have some of the best salad bars and veggie options around, we’re sure she’ll find plenty to eat should she attend.”

Well, sure, a steakhouse always has some vegetables. That’s why they call it “meat and potatoes.”

If she really wants to do some promoting, she’ll champion for a veggie burger on the steakhouse menu.

Heather Mills’ Mighty Meatless Meals In Minutes Finally Here!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 18th, 2009 in Business, Food & Drink, Models.

Farm Sanctuary's 2008 Gala

Update: The Mighty Meatless Meals In Minutes is rumored to have been the name of Heather’s presentation at the Viva! show, not the name of the food line.

Okay. So we’ve been waiting on Heather Mills for the past century to come around and give the name of her new vegan food range.

It’s April, but not April Fool’s Day folks, and the name of her range has actually been unveiled:

Mighty Meatless Meals In Minutes.

That’s quite a vegan mouthful to swallow.

Not only has Heather come forward with the details of her food range, but she’s giving a speech and cooking demonstration about it today in London.

She’ll be giving her ‘Get Healthy With Heather’ speech at the Vegetarian Roadshow, held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London.

Looks like Mills’ may be following the footsteps of her ex husband, Paul McCartney, who called for Meat-Free Mondays.

“Heather has been developing a new meatless meats food range over the last few years to encourage people to replace meat at least once a week,” said an organizer of the Vegetarian Roadshow event.

It’s awesome that Heather’s bringing out another option for quick, vegan meals.

Can’t wait to see what’s on the old fish restaurant menu!

Alex Greenwald Hates Meat: On His Plate And On Women

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 16th, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

In-Store Appearance By Phantom Planet At Virgin Records

Alex Greenwald of the band Phantom Planet has been spotted walking around with model Agyness Deyn and the UK Sun decided to poke fun of his veganness and choice of thin women.

Greenwald doesn’t like any meat, the Sun claims-especially on his women.

“The pair were spotted leaving her New York pad – and this one could have legs…And as a militant vegan he does ads for PETA. No wonder he likes Agy, she hasn’t an ounce of meat on her.”

Greenwald stopped eating meat in college when he made a bet with his then girlfriend. He was going to quit meat and she was going to quit smoking. She couldn’t give up the cigs and he won.

Kathy Freston Celebrates Her New Book Quantum Wellness

One dilemma vegans have is whether to support non vegan companies.

Kathy Freston, the author who inspired Oprah Winfrey to go vegan for 21 days, has her stance on this and recently shared it with W Magazine’s Senior Fashion Features Editor Dana Wood. Wood and W Mag are on a full blown vegan kick, regularly featuring animal-free fashion in the sea of forest critter coats and cuffs.

Freston shared with Dana that she buys items from non vegan designers to encourage them to expand their collection.

“By buying non-leather items from non-vegan fashion houses, Freston hopes to encourage designers to step up the cruelty-free offerings. “It’s just like restaurants,” she says. “I almost prefer to go to mainstream places because I think it’s good that they get requests for vegetarian and vegan meals. The more they get positive feedback on that, the more items they’ll add to their menus. And I think it’s the same with fashion houses.””

Sounds like a good way to approach it.

And in the end, this might just help veg food and clothing become mainstream.

Pamela Anderson, usually one of the best true to their word veg Hollywood stars, occasionally has her flip ups.

Like when she didn’t know KFC, a company she frequently speaks out against, helped sponsor her Girl On the Loose show in Australia.

Or launching a strip club in a steakhouse.

Yes, the vegan Pamela Anderson has joined forces with Audrina Patridge and Samantha Ronson to launch the opening of  Sapphire New York, a Gentleman’s club, which is part of the Prime 333 Steakhouse on the upper East side of New York city.

Other guests on the attendee list include Sopranos cast members Vincent Curatola and Steve Schirripa.

A strip club steakhouse? Really, Pamela, couldn’t you have found a better venue to attend a launch? How about an all natural juice strip club? Tutti fruity for booty?

Along with serving up blond and brunette meat (just had to say that), the club will feature several fillets and wines.
