Are you a vegan who has “cheated” before? Do you shove mom’s dairy cookies down your throat during the holidays, then eat Chciago Soy Dairy Ice Cream for the rest of the year?

Singer-songwriter Bif Naked has just admitted to giving in to some serious yam roll lovin’during her treatment for breast cancer.

It appears that beet juice got a little boring and she needed some spice in her life.

“I’m a raw food vegan — I’ve been doing that a long time — but one month all I wanted was yam rolls, and they’re definitely not raw. To this day, I can barely look at beets. I used to devour beet juice, and ate grated beets on salad every day, but now I can’t stand the smell.”

Hey, nobody said all vegans were perfect vegans. Now who wants to confess?

The 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and you slackers better head to the mall quick.

Even if your mom isn’t the best in the world, she still deserves some love this weekend as she can’t possibly be worst than the television mothers featured at televisionwithoutpity.com.

They’ve compiled a top 10 list of TV’s worst moms and Desperate Housewive’s Marcia Cross‘ character, Bree Van De Kamp is on the list.

Bree has a rap sheet longer than Bernard Madoff’s scam list of evil mommy deeds, including going against her daughter’s wishes and forcing her vegan grandchild to eat a hot dog.

Yep, that definitely marks her off our Hallmark and FTD list. No vegan chocolates either. She’s lucky if she gets a phone call. And even that will be collect.

Other bad mommies of the year star in Prison Break, Heroes, Gossip Girl, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Can you guess who they are? Visit televisionwithoutpity.com to find out!

Barbara Walters Taking Own Veggie Burgers To The White House

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 8th, 2009 in Food & Drink, TV Hosts.

Times 100 Most Influential People In The WorldBarbara Walters may soon be added to the list of favorite vegetarian TV hosts.

Green gossip website Ecorazzi.com received a tip from a fan who stated Walters announced she was seriously thinking about going vegetarian. Walters was prompted by a story about a cow named Molly who escaped a New York slaughterhouse.

“This morning on the View Barbara Walters brought up the topic of the Cow Molly that had escaped a slaughterhouse in NY yesterday. She said that was the reason she is more and more leaning towards vegetarianism. She also stated that she is scheduled to go to a White House dinner and she plans on bringing her own veggie burgers.”

Way to go, Barb! We seriously hope she follows through with this decision and sticks with it.

On an even happier note, the escaped cow was not sent back to slaughter, but instead transferred to an animal sanctuary in Suffolk county.

Maybe Barbara will pay her inspiration a visit and share some greens for lunch one day!

Kirstie Alley: The Bad Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 7th, 2009 in Actresses.

5th Annual TV Land Awards - ShowKirstie Alley is giving vegetarians a bad name.

The actress recently admitted to People magazine that she’s gained 83 pounds after quitting the Jenny Craig diet in 2007. She also become a vegetarian for seven months and ate all the wrong meatless things.

“I can’t tell you how much weight I gained being a vegetarian! A vegetarian would probably be eating vegetables,” Kirstie said.

“But to me being a vegetarian meant I’m going to eat enchiladas with no meat, and I’m going to eat lots of bread, lots of carbs.”

When are these Hollywood actresses going to learn nutrition?

Maybe Bethenny Frankel could teach Kirstie to put some tofu on that bread and make an open faced sandwich. She should try stuffing her enchiladas with low fat beans just as hard as gals try to stuff themselves into a pair of their pre pregnancy jeans after delivery. And stop having hookups with cheese.

Speaking of hookups, Kirstie mentioned she has a “thing” for actor Jamie Foxx.

“I want a booty call with Jamie Foxx — for real. I’ve always had a bit of thing for him.”

Sorry, Kirstie we don’t have dating expertise. We’ll just help you recognize good carbs.

Oprah Winfrey Giving KFC To America, Grief To Chickens

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian, TV Hosts.

Premiere Of MGMs The Great Debaters - ArrivalsIf Oprah Winfrey had a Pinocchio nose, it would stretch taller than the height of her condo’s building.

Awhile back, Miss O. did a documentary on chicken factory farm abuse.

Maybe she gave all the chickens prizes like she does to her audience members and now they don’t mind being boiled. She has no problem making the abused chickens martyrs as she’s announced she’s giving every family in America a free 2-piece Kentucky Grilled Chicken Meal.

How could she? After all, it was her involvement with so many animal rights issues that won her the love of PETA and it’s Person of the Year title she enjoyed scooting Obama out of the spotlight to share.

Could it be that Oprah is just trying to do something to feed hungry, credit crunched America and has completely forgotten PETA’s ongoing beef with KFC due to its treatment of chickens?

Whatever her reasons, she could have done much better. Coupons for Subway would have at least given people the option of  a much healthier and less cruel Veggie Max Patty or Veggie Delight Sandwich.

What other ways could O have treated America and chickens right?

Alicia Silverstone Goes Head To Head With Nutritionist On Meat And Dairy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

2009 Heart Of Green AwardsNothing better than two hot ladies duking it out in the ring.

Before you start to think this is a really sexist blog (especially if you’ve read that post on the vegetarian Playmate of the Year, Ida Ljungqvist), let us explain.

Alicia Silverstone and nutritionist Rachel Beller recently gave their input on the health effects of eliminating meat and dairy from your diet.

Here are a few replays:

Alicia Silverstone:
The excess animal protein in meat and dairy is so acidic that it causes the body to release calcium to buffer the acidity. Osteoporosis is very rare in countries that eat little or no dairy. Meat and dairy contain no phytonutrients, no complex carbs (which are very important). Basically meat and dairy are saturated fat and protein.

Rachel Beller:
The bottom line is that Alicia is NOT wrong, but the statement is polarizing. It sounds like all meat and dairy should be avoided; however, like so many things in life, it’s never this simple. A high protein diet that particularly emphasizes an intake of animal sources of meat and dairy does cause an acidic environment in the body, which subsequently must be neutralized by the body’s calcium. The prevailing idea is that calcium is absorbed from the bones to balance the acidic environment, thus leading to bone loss. Numerous studies have supported this theory for years. This is the basis of a long-standing claim that we (the American people) should increase our intake of vegetable sources of protein and decrease our animal sources of protein.

We’ve heard Alicia’s and Rachel’s input, now it’s time to hear yours.
