Prince Fielder Praised In “New York Post” For The Magic Spinach

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Food & Drink.

MLB-Home Run Derby

The New York Post ran an article about Milwaukee Brewers baseball player Prince Fielder, the vegetarian who’s wife picked up a copy of Skinny Bitch and went on a mission to convert her husband into one.

It worked.

And Prince’s game has never been better.

From the article:

“Wouldn’t you like to know what his wife is putting in that magic spinach! And wouldn’t his competition like to know as well. Maybe instead of that pre-game burger the other sluggers might want to spend a little more time at the salad bar and see if they can get a green recharge to kick-sprout their batting average.”

Right, on!

"Tanner Hall" Screening - 2009 Toronto International Film Festival

Amy Ferguson was asked at the Toronto Film Festival what the last favor she asked someone was.

“Three days ago I asked Woody Harrelson to come to the World Peace Yoga Conference,” Ferguson answered, according to InStyle magazine.

Since Woody is one of Hollywood’s prime yoga boys, he must have at least seriously considered.

The World Peace Yoga Conference takes places in Loveland, Ohio in the greater Cinncinati area from October 23 through October 25.

This event is for more than just those who enjoy the pretzel positions.

The conference brings together a love for the environment, food and animal activism.

Delicious vegan food will be served while you have the chance to hear noted vegan authors and speakers discuss foodie topics such as cooking and gardening.

You may also take advantage of the environmental classes to learn how you can help fight global warming and poverty.

David Life, co founder of the popular Jivamukti Yoga School and Cafe said:

“Care enough about the world to become peace-filled in Love-land! The World Peace Yoga Conference is the best idea of the millennium. This is an opportunity for all of us to show that we care enough about world peace to take the first step ourselves. Yoga means “you do it!” You don’t wait for someone else to be compassionate, you do it. You don’t wait for someone else to create peace, you create it- find out how, by attending the World Peace Yoga Conference.”

Registration ends on October 16, so reserve your spot now at worldpeaceyogaconference.com.

Stella McCartney “Gap Kids” “Baby Gap” Clothing November 2009

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 in Children, Fashion.

Natural Resources Defense Council 11th Annual Forces For Nature Benefit

Stella McCartney is about to launch her collection of children’s clothing this November in the UK, France, Japan, United States and Canada, as a collaboration between Gap Kids and Baby Gap.

As expected, Stella’s collections for the little ones will contain no fur or leather. However, there will be wool.

Stella herself is a mother of three children, but intends to stick with adult fashions as this will be a one time only collection.

When designing the collection, Stella thought of both durability and comfort.

“Perfect little kids are not really very me,” Stella said, at a W magazine photo shoot. “I wanted to have a bit of realness. When you’re talking about this kind of accessibility and children it’s really important that you feel comfortable throwing the lot of it in the washing machine and not being too precious with it.”

“To me, the fabric is so important, especially on a child, as they are so aware when things are scratchy.”

The collection will range from $14-$128 and will feature everything from blankets to sweaters to military jackets for boys and girls.

“Larry King Live” Stephanie Smith Attorney Discusses Meat Dangers

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 in Food & Drink, TV Hosts, Videos.

Larry King Live recently featured a segment that highlighted the dangers of consuming meat.

Bill Marler, attorney for Stephanie Smith, the woman paralyzed from the waist down after eating an e.coli tainted hamburger served on King’s guest panel.

“There are more Stephanies,” Marler said. “Grossly under calculated people who get sick…We’ve really gutted the ability for local and state health departments, CDC, to surveil food borne illness. There are a lot of Stephanies, a lot of Abbeys, a lot of Kevins-they just don’t necessarily get tied to a particular hamburger patty.”

Sad, frightening, and disgusting all in one.

There’s only one surefire way to monitor illness from eating meat-stay away from it! Grab a veggie patty instead.

Paris Hilton “Miss Pigelette” Pig Purchase Angers PETA

2009 Fox Reality Channel Really Awards

Paris Hilton has gotten in trouble for her animal hoarding ways before.

Now she’s sparked bad attention again for the recent addition of a baby pig to her home.

During a recent Tweet, Paris said:

“http://twitpic.com/kuuwf – So excited for my new piglette to come home to me. I just picked out the cutest piggy from Patty at Royaldandie.com”

The pig, Paris named Miss Pigelette, is seen below.

According to TMZ, PETA has accused Paris of setting a “wretched example” by treating animals like they’re “as disposable as her friends and fiances.”

Ouch! That’s a little harsh.

We bet Paris has kept her pets longer than most of her boyfriends and fiances.

“The Chihuahuas, ferrets, and kinkajous she’s paraded through her home in the past were not accessories, and pot-bellied pigs aren’t either,” PETA added.

Moby Balances Healthy And Junk Vegan Food

McCartney Family Launch Meat Free Monday - Photocall

Nothing like combining a cold glass of soy milk, fresh fruit, high protein nuts and a bag of potato chips.

Moby discussed the task of balancing eating healthy with eating junk food.

“When I’m on tour, I definitely eat a lot of comfort foods. Part of it is because you never know when you’re going to eat well again. So if you have the opportunity to eat well, you’re going to eat as much as possible.”

“At home, it’s that balance between vegan junk food and really healthy food. It’s like every now and then, lunch will consist of vegan tacos and then steamed broccoli and keen-wa (Quinoa) . I mean, they’re both relatively healthy, but…”

Moby’s favorite vegan junk foods are vegan tempura or onion rings.

What’s your favorite vegetarian junk to balance with an otherwise healthy diet of tempeh, brown rice and tomato soup?
