AFI Visits fuse TV's "Distortion"

“Hide those vegan xmas cookies! I don’t want to even smell them!”

—-Hunter Burgan, in a recent Tweet.

Why on earth would you want to get rid of vegan cookies?

Cause most vegan desserts give vegheads a Pringles Potato Chip like syndrome–once you pop one in your mouth, it’s difficult to stop!

Kerry Washington Loves Her “Quality” New York Food

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, December 27th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Broadway Opening Of "Race" - After Party

Kerry Washington really kissed up to the New York Post when she told them her favorite city was the one that never slept.

Her dog, Josie B, a Yorkie-shih tzu mix, agrees.

“She likes the cooler weather and the change in seasons,” Kerry said.

Kerry named some of her favorite spots to hit in NYC and unfortunately, one of those spots isn’t one you’ll want to visit to get a glimpse of the actress.

“I eat a lot of vegetarian foods, but if I’m in the mood for a great steak, they have the best.,” Kerry said of Quality Meats on W. 58th Street. “It’s a wonderful modern steakhouse, a mix of traditional items and new sides, like edamame and English peas. Their salads are incredible, too.”

Awesome that Kerry eats lots of plant based meals and digs edamame. And it’s cool that Quality Meats serves food that a veg can enjoy when dining with mixed meal company.

But if Kerry eats vegetarian so often, you’d think it’d be easy for her to substitute faux meat when she’s in the mood for a “great steak.”

Somebody tell Kerry to expand her list of NY hot spots–and take a trip to Angelica Kitchen, Candle 79 or Dirt Candy.

Who knows?

Maybe Josie B. will take a liking to seitan.

Natalie Portman “Interview” 20 Most Beautiful People Decade

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 26th, 2009 in Actresses.

Natalie Portman arrives for the 2009 Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York

Interview Magazine has named its pick for the 20 most beautiful people of the decade.

It was no doubt a tough decision, requiring committees of scientists, academics, legal experts and laypersons, but somehow Interview came to the conclusion that Natalie Portman is worthy of the title.

The Veg Star couldn’t agree more!

From Interviewmagazine.com:

“We’ve had her on our radar since she was the 12-year-old Lolita of The Professional. And somehow, her beauty has grown and grown over the past decade. Now 28, she’s won a Golden Globe, earned a psychology degree from Harvard, devoted her free time to social and political activism, and looked better than Demi with a shaved head. She’s even a vegan. Enough, really.”

Being vegan is great for your health, the planet and the animals, but can it really make you sexier?

Both Alanis Morissette and Woody Harrelson credit cutting dairy for making their skin smooth and Alicia Silverstone‘s beauty regime includes eating kale and swiss chard as much as daily moisturizing.

This New Year’s might be a great time to make the resolution to give veg a try.

Good luck on making People’s 50 Most Beautiful.

Miley Cyrus Fast Food Fetish

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 25th, 2009 in Female Singers, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball - Day 1

The former fish eating vegetarian Miley Cyrus has been caught once again professing her love for greasy fast food.

A source claimed that while Miley was staying in a hotel recently, she ordered enough animal laden products to clog every fan’s arteries. Life and Style reported:

“She sent out for… cheese fries and seven burgers. She had two Double Takes with double the meat, two Atomic Burgers with chili and jalapeños, two Cheeez Please Burgers and a classic burger with secret sauce.”

Miley was also said to have washed this all down with an Oreo milkshake.

It’s probably a safe bet that Miley only ate one of the burgers she ordered, while her crew gobbled up the rest.

But even so, couldn’t Miley have held the beef and sent for some whole wheat pasta and salad instead?

Her insatiable appetite for fast food is what caused Miley’s vegetarian downfall to begin with.

“I like fried food,” she had said. “I wasn’t able to give up the meat. I want a steak or a burger from McDonald’s every once in a while. A double-double is just way too good. I’ve still got to eat. I’ve got the rest of my life to stay healthy.”

Two famous vegs really want to change the way government is ran.

Okay, so one is already in politics and the other is just a wannabe.

If Dennis Kucinich had his way, everyone would be forced to eat vegan brownies.

Pamela Anderson would be a little less militant, just calling for a Be A Veggie For A Day campaign and letting her constituents choose which plant based items to eat.

Hmm…bet most people would choose to eat brownies but…who would you rather do…

Telvision hosts of The Hour Michelle McManus and Stephen Jardine summed up some of their favorite moments from the show during 2009.

McManus said hosting musician Juliette Lewis was one of her most memorable episodes and she was rewarded with vegetarian haggis in a Scottish goodie bag.

Jardine’s favorite interview was with none other than vegan activist and musician Chrissie Hynde.

The Hour returns to television January 4 2010.

If more moments like Juliette and Chrissie occur next year, producers might have to rename it The Hour of Veg Love.

Ugh!

Who wants to think about New Year’s Resolutions before the holiday season is over?

Unfortunately, if you’ve been on the Thanksgiving to Christmas diet and stuffing yourself with every cookie invented, it may be time to start thinking how to drop the 10 pounds even vegan desserts will ultimately put on the belly.

Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, has offered a few tips at the Huffington Post and of course the pres of an organization that promotes a vegan diet recommends the V word.

“Abundant research has shown that the more vegetarian meals people eat, the easier time they have maintaining a healthy weight. And the most powerful meals are vegan. In May, researchers at Loma Linda University published results of a study of nearly 61,000 Americans. Vegans were the thinnest, meat-eaters were the heaviest, and fish-eaters and ovo-lacto-vegetarians were between the two. People who switch to a vegan diet typically lose about a pound a week–and this prescription for weight loss doesn’t require portion control or calorie-counting. A meatless diet also helps reduce the risk of heart disease, type two diabetes, and some cancers.”
