Vegetarian Star

Jared Leto and Ellen Page have been chosen as this year’s sexiest vegetarians in an annual contest held by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The competition has fans vote for their favorite male and female celebrity that eschews meat and sometimes even all animal products.

Jared Leto took home an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club this weekend.

Leto, who won for Best Supporting Actor in the film, had a list of those to thank, much like any other star would.

While many thank their family, friends and crew on the set, Leto wanted to extend his thanks to those that helped feed him.

Wolfgang Puck is a veteran to catering for both the Academy Awards and vegans.

Not only has he worked tirelessly ensuring the stars who follow a plant-based diet have a selection to choose from at awards ceremonies, he’s also fed PETA supporters at its event.

Stars at this year’s festivities were treated to dozens of vegetarian and vegan goodies, some of which may have included Puck’s Gluten-Free Chocolate Cupcakes with Almond Frosting.

Jared Leto said he’d be celebrating his Oscar nomination for Dallas Buyers’ Club by eating vegan pancakes.

And this short video he posted to his Instagram account a few days ago proves he’s been cooking dairy and egg-free flapjacks for some good reason.

Leto titled this “Pancake pro in the house.”

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter what he was going to do after hearing the news of his nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Dallas Buyers’ Club, Leto replied:

“I’m going back to bed and then wake up and make vegan pancakes.”

“I still have plenty of vices, but alcohol isn’t one of them. It’s probably just down to sleep and diet. If you travel long haul a lot or don’t sleep much, it’s not going to last very long, that’s for sure. I’m pretty healthy so I think that helps a lot. I’ve been that way for a long time – 20 solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process.”

—Jared Leto, in an interview with UK GQ, on how he keeps his youthful figure, which was temporarily disrupted for the filming of Chapter 27 where he played John Lennon’s killer, Mark Chapman. Leto said he ate “giant pizzas and everything you know you’re not supposed to eat” to prepare for the role.
