Eddie Curry Puts On Pounds: Nothing Left To Do But Go Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

Knicks-Bobcats

New York Knicks basketball player Eddie Curry has been packing on the pounds after some medical injuries, including a bacterial infection and bruised bone in his knee.

His weight gain further complicated his knee issues, making it harder to get back into shape.

“When you’re not playing, you’re not practicing, there’s really nothing you can do,” Curry said, “other than be a vegetarian.”

That’s right, Eddie. Looks like there’s nothing to do but go veg.

After all, vegetarians tend to have lower body weights than non-vegetarians. And some studies have shown people who follow vegetarian diets lose weight more easily than their omnivorous dieting pals.

And Eddie would be in great company of other vegetarian or vegan basketball stars like Salim Stoudamire, Blake Griffin, and John Salley.

Yep, it’s time for Curry to be making some (veggie) curry. He’s exhausted all other possible options.

Sam Neill has been starring in television advertisements for Australia’s Meat and Livestock industry. The ads promote red meat as a vital contributor to brain health and feature such taglines as “Meat – you’d be silly not to eat it”.

Jason Baker, director of PETA Asia-Pacific, has sent Neill a letter suggesting alternative mottos, such as “Meat: It’s What’s Rotting in Your Colon”.

“Seeing you pimp for an industry that is linked to the main killers of human beings as well as of animals is, well, sad,” Baker wrote.

Baker goes on to mention that people with higher IQs are more likely to go vegetarian.

Baker plays upon Neill being famous for his role in the 1993 science fiction thriller Jurassic Park.

“Won’t you agree that it’s time to evolve, choose a plant-based diet and leave Jurassic tastes in the dust (since the meat habit will cause the extinction of us all)?”

Here’s an example of the ads showing that feature Neill.

Rupert Everett Quit Vegetarianism: Gave Weak Reason For Doing So

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 in Actors, Not So Vegetarian.

11th Annual Broadway Barks

Rupert Everett was recently on the Rachael Ray show where he announced he’s no longer vegetarian.

And he’s got such as WEAK excuse.

Last time Rupert was on Rachael Ray, Rachael made him a vegetable curry because she knew he was a vegetarian.

When Rachael mentioned she heard he was no longer vegetarian, Rupert rambled about loving cows, but enjoying meat, and feeling weak while being vegetarian.

Now, isn’t that just pathetic.

Rachael Ray threw in her ridiculous piece of information that her grandfather said eating meat was good for the blood.

Please stick to cooking, Rachael.

Sure, meat contains iron, which red blood cells need to function, but that mineral can be found in numerous plant sources like spinach, soybeans, seeds, tofu, beans, quinoa, and the list goes on.

Rupert’s British brother, Paul McCartney, might have a few suggestions for countering that “weak” feeling, especially since he’s got over another whole decade of years on him and is still going strong.

Twilight actress Christian Serratos recently interviewed with New York Beauty Secrets Examiner Gabrielle Long, where she revealed she prefers to keep her beauty collection cruelty-free!

“I mean, there’s still some stuff that I’m trying to like wean myself off of by finishing the bottle and calling it a day with it. Because I found out that some of my favorite stuff either tests on animals, or uses animals. Luckily, a lot of the stuff I already use won’t test on animals, so I lucked out and picked the right things. It’s convenient.”

“I like this new brand Stripped, it has this vegan mineral veil, and I love it. Everything is vegan, even their brushes. Because I don’t like to use any animal products, it’s really hard to find out what is or isn’t. It’s really easy with Stripped because all of their brushes and all their makeup and lipgloss and everything is vegan.”

Farm Sanctuary’s Gene Baur Says Meat Wastes Water

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, July 13th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Environment-Eco-Green.

Vegetarian Times online has an interview with Farm Sanctuary’s President and co-founder, Gene Baur.

Farm Sanctuary works to protect and rescue farm animals throughout North America.

Not only are factory farms cruel to animals, they’re wasting our water more than a fully running faucet during teeth brushing time!

“Water is a precious resource. There is a 10:1 ratio in terms of water resources necessary for meat production versus vegetarian food production. The “externalities” or external costs of factory farms include polluted surface and ground water due to untreated manure lagoons that are basically just liquid waste. There was a theory that anaerobic decomposition would decay it all. However, when it rains, these lagoons overflow. This also causes a destruction of property values because of the stench.”

“I’ve never been a feminist so there you go. I just do what I think I have to do. I’m not resistant. I’m only interested in meat-eaters and non-meat-eaters. If you’re a feminist and a meat-eater you’ve got nothing to do with me. We’re not speaking the same language. I’ve never been discriminated against anyway.”

Incidentally, some vegans might consider the dairy industry to be a feminist thing, as female cows are forcefully impregnated to produce milk for human profit and consumption. Is there a feminist theme behind the Dairy is Rape saying?

Hugh Jackman Can Redeem Chicken Sins At Detox Resort

Hugh Jackman Presents Joel Greys New Book 1.3 - Images From My Phone

In Austria, the Viva Mayr clinic exists, where celebrities flock to detox and lose weight.

The intensive seven day programs costs anywhere from $2,500 to $5,000 a week and replace sugar, caffeine, and alcohol with gourmet vegetarian meals and various pampering and luxury offers.

A similar program exists in Australia called Gwinganna.

Stars like Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, and Hugh Jackman have taken part in these “detox” sessions.

Oh, yes. Hugh Jackman.

Is this where the X Men star goes to purify himself from the chicken farm he consumes when he’s interested in getting buffed for a film?

If you recall, Hugh told reporters he consumed a lot of chicken to put on extra muscle for his Wolverine role.

“Let me tell you, I’m not vegan. I ate so many chickens to make this body. If there is a place in hell for people who eat chickens, I have booked a suite bigger than anybody.”

Of course, Hugh could have checked out Vega, completely plant based vegan protein bars, protein powders, and other supplements.

There are chickens in hell, waiting for him to arrive, so they can force feed him a liquid diet of Smoothie Infusion.

Joan Jett Farm Sanctuary Visit And Photos

Farm Sanctuary

Farm Sanctuary

Joan Jett recently made a field trip to Farm Sanctuary where she not only cuddled with the famous Joan Jett pig, but rubbed elbows (or maybe snouts?) with other animals like Jerry Lee pictured here.

Joan’s not only a supporter of Farm Sanctuary and animal activist, but a longtime vegetarian as well.

The folks of Farm Sanctuary know a picture’s worth a thousand words, and they’ve included several illustrating Joan’s compassion and ability to bond with animals.

From the blog, Sanctuary Tails:

“During her visit, Joan got to meet her namesake, the fabulous Joan Jett pig and pitch in with farm tasks like moving the main cattle herd to a different pasture so they could enjoy grazing on new lush green grass, and feeding scratch mix out to flocks of super excited chickens. She also, of course, got to just hang out and play with all the animals, and I was thrilled to see how very comfortable she was with all of them – no matter how big or how small. Joan was an absolute natural with the animals and, of course, extremely cool to hang out with too.”

Visit Sanctuary Tails to view more pictures and Joan hanging out with the farm animals.
