Twitter CEO Evan Williams Meets With Mayor Newsom At Company's Headquarters

Oh, giggities. We don’t know exactly how to contain ourselves. We love Twitter, tweet regularly, and hope that you follow us.

So it was a pleasant surprise to learn Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, is a vegan!

We tried to bring you the story in less than 140 characters, but you know…that’s kinda difficult. But you can 140 character him @Biz.

In an interview with the New York Times, reporter Maureen Dowd joked that people might not really care what you’re doing (thus, why Tweet about it).

Do you ever think “I don’t care that my friend is having a hamburger?”

BIZ: If I said I was eating a hamburger, Evan would be surprised because I’m a vegan.

Oh, yeah. Go Biz!

Who Would You: Woody Harrelson Or Paul McCartney

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 in Actors, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Polls/Surveys, Who Would You.

Call it the “brownest” celebrity edition. In honor of Earth Day, Foxnews wrote an article on celebrities who’ve had less than green moments and two of our favorite veggie celebs, Woody Harrelson and Paul McCartney were on the list. Woody had clothing flown from California to France and Paul had his car flown from Japan. So between the two eco bad boys, who would you rather do…?

Foxnews.com has compiled a list of celebrities who have proven to be less than green on some occasions. A couple of vegheads made the hall of shame.

Like Woody Harrelson, for example. The actor who swears by the solar panel had an attachment to some clothing worst than Linus and his blanket. He had his favorite vegan shoes and belt flown from his California home to the Cannes Film Festival in France. Yeah, that’s so eco-friendly. NOT.

Then there’s our man Paul McCartney. If you think it’s fuel inefficient to fly shoes and a belt, think about carrying a car through the friendly skies.

“He even bought a hybrid vehicle to cut down on his personal footprint. But the ex-Beatle made just one minor misstep. He had the car specially flown from Japan, creating more emissions with one flight than the car will ever save in its lifetime. Nice try, Paul.”

But at least these guys have offset their eco-sins with a veg diet. The remaining celebrities on the hall of shame can’t take that credit.

Jonathan Slavin: Better Off Ted’s Other Gay Vegan

Jonathan Slavin

Jonathan Slavin

Jonathan Slavin plays a nerdy research scientist on the ABC television series Better Off Ted.

You may recall us telling you that one of the best know vegan lesbians, Portia de Rossi, stars on the show as well.

But Portia isn’t the only gay/lesbian on the set of Better Off Ted who leaves cheese off her pizza if the cast and crew are ordering in. Plus, Portia’s forced to make room for him at their home when he has pizza with Ellen.

“Ellen’s been amazingly supportive of the show, so we all got together and watched the premiere there,” Slavin told Advocate.com. “They have a beautiful home that’s first and foremost a home; it feels very comfortable. There was lots of vegan pizzas, and vegan this, vegan that. I never go to a dinner party where I can eat everything on the table, so I was thrilled.”

Slavin, who’s been working as an actor since the early 90s, has played roles in Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Caroline in the City, Wings, and My Name Is Earl.

Visit advocate.com to read what Slavin has to say about Hollywood and his sexuality and how Zac Effron and Jesse McCartney are not cute.

“Those are still little boys to me.”

Hugh Jackman Going To Hell For Eating Too Many Chickens

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine screening
Hugh Jackson needed to get buffed up for his role as Wolverine in the new X-Men movie.

So what did he start eating a zillion times a day? Lots of pasta? Hemp protein powder? Not exactly. That’s why he definitely wants you to know he’s not vegan.

He was recently in Hollywood getting his hands and footprints immortalized in the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, when he told a reporter of his dieting plan.

“Let me tell you, I’m not vegan. I ate so many chickens to make this body. If there is a place in hell for people who eat chickens, I have booked a suite bigger than anybody.”

Say hello to Colonel KFC for us, Hugh.

Emily Deschanel, Rory Freedman Share Vegan Earth Day Date Idea

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 in Actresses, Authors, Environment-Eco-Green.

Gretchen Ryan's "Little Pretty" Exhibition Opening

Happy Earth Day! Do you have big plans?

Bones actress Emily Deschanel and Skinny Bitch author Rory Freedman described to Chloe Jo of the Girlie Girl Army their idea of the perfect Earth Day friend date.

It involves trapezes and vegan food. Hopefully, they’d wait awhile after eating the vegan food and getting on the trapeze.

Rory Freedman: First stop: trapeze school on the Santa Monica pier! It’s one version of man-made fun that doesn’t leave any carbon footprint. You swing around in the air confronting your fear of heights and bodily harm. It’s an amazing workout where you get to be outside, enjoy the fresh air, see the ocean, feel young, and get manhandled by hot guys. When we’re done playing Circus of the Stars, we can go stuff our faces at Golden Mean Cafe, the new vegan spot in Santa Monica that’s all the buzz. The food is ridiculously good, there’s an upstairs mediation/reading room, the space is really Zen (the walls are infused with crushed quartz crystal, selenite, mica, gold, and incense), and the owner and head chef couldn’t be sweeter.

Emily Deschanel: Ooh I can’t wait! I’ve been dying to do trapeze school, and I haven’t been to that restaurant yet!! You know we both love vegan food!!! I wonder what the crystals in the walls will do for us.. We’ll probably feel all centered and new-age-y.

Pamela Anderson Getting RAW With Her Own Fragrance Line

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 in Actresses, Cosmetics And Beauty Products.

Pamela Anderson at the Millionaire Fair in Amsterdam

Pamela Anderson has been running and hitting the pavement at full speed lately.

She recently collaborated with Richie Rich to develop a cruelty-free clothing and shoe line, Muse. She hinted (if even humorously) at a cooking television show where women make vegetarian food in bikinis.

Now, she’s coming out with her own brand of fragrance.

From her blog, Pammie writes:

“Finally a company with a heart—so glad we found each other- a company in Florida looks promising- I have developed a line of natural body fragrances and have more products to come- first fragrance is Raw by pamela…company is called pamela- super enviro-conscious, cruelty free- yummy-natural- very sexy fragrance I wear every day- will be available this summer—department stores, drug stores, affordable choices- I want to sell where I shop— nothing too fancy— Keep the Country COUNTRY!”

How cool it will be to get inexpensive, vegan fragrances at the local drug or grocery store!

But she’s not done yet. There’s also talk of a beauty drink under the same RAW brand, which stands for “Real Activist Wild.”

Go Pamela!

Ecorazzi Dude Michael Parrish DuDell Says There’s A New Veganism

Experience Life Magazine is all about healthy living.

Smart folks like you know healthy living includes a vegetarian diet, and this month Experience Life has chosen to speak with two folks well known in the vegan world-Rory Freedman, author of the Skinny Bitch series, and Michael Parrish DuDell, senior editor at Ecorazzi.com, a green gossip website.

DuDell says there’s a new veganism taking place, one which doesn’t involve the stereotypical person the Gossip Girls Blair and Serena poked fun of on a episode.

“There is a new veganism,” said DuDell “The new vegan is not your typical patchouli-wearing, dreadlock-sporting hippie. There’s even vegan fashion from designers like Stella McCartney.”

“Now you can walk into some of the best restaurants and tell them you’re a vegan, and they’ll prepare a great vegan meal for you.”

You can read the rest of what Michael has to say at Experiencelifemag.com.

There’re definitely more options for vegans than there were a decade ago. But is it really that easy to get a great vegan meal prepared? And do most people still stereotype vegans as non deodorant wearing college students who camp out on the adminstration lawn?

What do you guys think of Michael’s statement? Chime in and let everybody know.
