"Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook"

"Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook"

If cutting back on desserts is one of your New Year’s resolutions, you may want to put it on hold until you’ve gobbled up Kim Barnouin‘s Vegan Apple Pie.

A treat that Barnouin’s mother has made for 40 years, Jack’s Grandma’s Apple Pie has undergone a few transformations to suit the Skinny Bitch author’s egg and dairy-free dietary preferences.

Earth Balance vegan butter and Spectrum vegetable shortening are Kim’s preferred switches for the pie, but she was nice enough to give other vegan baking suggestions during her interview with EcoStiletto.

The Veronicas

Jess Origliasso celebrated a birthday on Christmas. Did this mean double presents? Or double the number of yummy, tasty veggie tacos?

One-half of the pop duo The Veronicas, Jess is seen is these videos demonstrating how to make her almost vegan tacos and guacamole dip.

Jess calls them vegan, but like many people, probably isn’t aware that the brand of faux cheese she’s using contains casein, a milk protein often added to soy and other imitation cheeses. A simple switch to a truly vegan cheese like Teese or Daiya will give you the genuine vegan touch.

The Veronicas are often on the road and because of this, they can’t always access an oven. This is why Jess chose refried beans instead of faux meat because she prefers to fry imitation meats in a saucepan. Taco shells can be microwaved too.

“About 45 seconds if you put all of them in,” Jess says, referring to the length of time it takes to warm an entire box of shells.

These tacos get the approval of “Slim Dusty,” a meat-eating, cow farm owner who chose to hide his identity. Watch the videos below for full instructions for making the veggie tacos and guacamole and tell us if they get your approval as well.

Duff Goldman

Duff Goldman, star of Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes,” has made the announcement that he’s switching to cage-free eggs for his company, Charm City Cakes.

Goldman joins fellow celebrity chef Guy Fieri and dozens of national retailers and franchises like Quizno’s and Denny’s to source eggs from farms that don’t confine hens in cages so small, they aren’t even able to spread their wings. Cage-free hens have 2-3 times more space than caged hens.

“Charm City Cakes is pleased to have switched to only using cage-free eggs, which is a great way to improve animal welfare and meet our customers’ expectations for being socially responsible,” said Duff.

Olivia Wilde "Women'sHealth Magazine"

Tomorrow Olivia Wilde‘s Women’s Health cover hits the stands, and as much as men everywhere are excited about what’s on the outside, we’re bomb-diggitied about the recipe Wilde shares inside.

Wilde joked to a Flaunt photograher that she’d never be super skinny because of all the pasta she eats regularly with her Italian husband, and her Bomb-Diggity “Bolognese” shared with Women’s Health featuring tempeh for the “meat” might be what she dreams of getting fat off, which could still be hard given pasta is full of good carbs that give you energy and not love handles.

Heather Mills Christmas Dinner Tips And Ideas For Every Holiday

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 16th, 2010 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Recipes.

Heather Mills

Heather Mills has already shared some tips for enjoying the holiday season without meat and dairy in Veggie Vision’s Guide for enjoying a vegetarian Christmas. Now, she’s advising any vegetarian or vegan to take matters into their own hands when visiting relatives who eat meat. Bring your own and don’t bother arguing about values this time. Stuff your face with good food instead!

“The best thing you can do is bring an amazing dish to the party – such as a vegan dessert or yummy things that people will try,” Mills said. “It’s best not to get into a heavy conversation around the dinner table about your choice. Just say “you live your life, and I live mine, but if you want to have a serious discussion about it, let’s have it another day”. The best way to convert people is by bringing great-tasting food and by looking fit and healthy.”

When a site like Vegetarians In Paradise has recommendations for every major holiday of the year, you don’t even have to bother searching for recipes.

“The best high is green vegetable juice and meditation.”

Russell Simmons, on the season finale of “Running Russell Simmons,” during a conversation with his assistants on the topic of crack and how to get a healthy, natural, legal high.

Juice enthusiasts will agree and probably bookmark greenjuicerecipesnow.com, which can recommend juicing books like Green Smoothie Revolution, filled with quirky sounding juices like the Eye Eye Captain (yep, that’s a glass full of Vitamin A rich carrots, which play an important role in vision health, plus kale) and The Cucapple, a partnership between juiced cucumbers and apples. Could Parsley Pep Up take the place of banned caffeinated drinks like Four Loko in the bars?

Emeril Lagasse

If there’s anything you need to learn to do in your lifetime, it’s how to correctly wrap a burrito.

Emeril teaches you this and more with his recipe–complete with video– for Super Soy Burritos that utilize soy “steak” strips for additional protein in addition to black beans and yellow  rice.

Onions and red peppers are expected to go in the wrap, but Swiss Chard provides an interesting twist in addition to a nutritional bonus. One cup of the leafy green provides 27% of your daily needs for potassium.

Add some soy sour cream to top it all off and you’ve got yourself a burrito. Well, almost. There’s still the complicated task of  wrapping. Print the recipe for Super Soy Burritos here, then let Emeril teach you to wrap them in this video at Planet Green.
