“The September Issue” And Anna Wintour’s Furry Back

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Fashion, Fur.

J Mendel Fall 2006 - Front Row

A movie about the editors, models, and photographers that made September 2007 the best selling edition of Vogue magazine ever, The September Issue,  hits the theatres this month.

Anna Wintour, fashion editor and editor-in-chief of American Vogue is known for reviving the fur trend in fashion.

Not sure how the “reviving” works, since the fur is dead, but Anna supposedly has the resurrection powers within her.

“Nobody was wearing fur until Anna put it back on the cover in the ’90s,” one stylist said, according to usatoday.com.

Thanks a bunch, Anna. The animals thank you as well.

Wintour has been quoted as saying,”There’s always a way to wear fur. Personally, I wear it on my back.”

Don’t see why she’s bragging about this, as most men won’t even admit to having a hairy back.

With the cruelty of animals being kept in cages on fur farms and even skinned alive for the hides, the best way to wear fur is to fake it or keep it on the original owner-the animal.

Lady Gaga leaves her hotel wearing a fur coat, lingerie and thigh-high boots in Toronto, Canada

Lady Gaga was spotted leaving her hotel room for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in what looks to be fur.

Has to be fake, right?

Back when Gaga was sporting her Kermit the Frog coat, she said, “I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing in the house about how it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”

Take a look and judge for yourself.

Has Gaga went back on her word?

“I’ve always been anti-fur – I love my pets…and I could never see them being worn. It’s a very human time right now, and what’s the sense in more carnage? There are other things in life to celebrate and design doesn’t have to be draped with dead animals.”

—-designer Victoria Bartlett (pictured right), on her commitment to fur-free fashion.

Victoria recently partnered with the Humane Society of the United States to distribute anti-fur literature and buttons at her Spring/Summer 2010 runway show this past weekend as part of New York Fashion Week.

‘Cruelty Doesn’t Fly’—Learn More at PETA.org.

Pamela Anderson still showing she has the sex symbol power in this anti-animal hide PSA she recently took part in.

Featuring appearances from celebrities like Steve-O, Nina Hagen, Carol Leifer and Andy Dick, Pamela plays airport security and means serious business when she says Cruelty Doesn’t Fly and strips passengers of all fur, leather, and other animal hides.

PETA once again got one of its commercials deemed to racy to air, this time by CNN Airport Network.

Yes, there are pat downs.

Yes, there are strip searches.

There are even completely naked people (leave mouse on “X” in case boss walks in your office).

Makes you want to fly the friendly skies more often.

Naomi Campbell: And The Dennis Basso Fur Flies

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, September 5th, 2009 in Fur, Models.

05_Flatbed_2 - AUGUST

A couple of months ago, we brought you the news that Naomi Campbell agreed to pose in a series of ads promoting fur clothing by fashion designer Dennis Basso.

Campbell had previously worked with PETA in “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaigns, but withdrew her support after the animal rights group targeted fashion designers.

Naomi added the statement, “I do like wearing fur and I still do.”

Celebrity animal rights activists are appalled and Paul McCartney has written a letter to Campbell, according to the New York Daily News.

According to Campbell, she and PETA have embraced each other with love and all is forgiven.

“Yes, I am still wearing fur,” said Campbell, “but I’ve made up with that guy from Peta.”

Don’t know what Campbell means by “made up with” but we’re sure flashing the former coat of an animal for vain fashion purposes takes a lot more than a kiss and hug for anyone-PETA person or not-to get over.

Nia Long Gets Skinned On The Subway In PETA Anti-Fur Ad

Also an advertisement for photoshopping, the latest PETA anti-fur ad features actress Nia Long in her birthday suit on the subway.

Seems like the photoshop user got a little crazy and wiped away her belly button. And chiseled off some of her calf.

Were they trying to emphasize how animals are skinned to get fur by scraping away some of Nia?

“Be comfortable in your own skin,” reads the ad. “And let animals keep theirs.”

The actress who’s had roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Third Watch, and Are We There Yet?  has given up some of her flesh. Now, there’s no reason for an animal to give any of theirs.

Lady Gaga has been known for her choice of stage outfits, but this one really takes the cruelty-free cake.

The woman born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta recently made headlines with her Kermit the Frog outfit that she’s proud to say is fur free.

“The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean[-Charles] de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces,” she said.

“I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing in the house about how it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”

Note: No Kermit the Frogs were harmed or killed in any way during the making of the outfit.
