Steve-O

“Everyone should dramatically simplify their life and reduce their spending because there’s going to be less expendable income. I’m pretty careful. I drive the cheapest car Nissan makes and I rent a two bedroom apartment in Glendale. What I spend money on is organic, vegan food.”

Steve-O, to Fox 411 Poptarts.

If you’re the frugal type, you might be interested in knowing that spending your money on “organic, vegan food” like Steve may very well be the best way save a nickel or two. The folks at Good.is–who happen to be doing a 30-day vegetarian challenge–have compared vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and meat-eating diets in terms of what one might spend on breakfast, lunch and dinner. One day’s worth of meals for a vegan was $11.15, but a meat eater put out a whopping $14.65!  Don’t know about  you, but we can think of plenty of ways to use that extra $3 a day…like spending it on more delicious vegan food.

"The Conscious Cook" Tal Ronen

“So many people tell me, ‘I could be a vegan if it weren’t for bacon,’ and I tell them, ‘Be a “vegan” who eats bacon.'”

“Real militant vegans hate when I say that. But if you are cutting back on the amount of meat that you eat, you’re still doing something great for your health, for the planet and for the animal.”

Tal Ronnen, in an interview with the LA Times. The article highlights the growing trend among culinary experts, vegetarians and animal activists accepting and promoting flexitarianism or vegetarianism that lets one slide here and there instead of mandating the adherence to strict eating patterns.
