Staffers at Good.is, a magazine co-founded by Inc. Magazine creator Bernie Goldhirsh that promotes individuals, businesses, non-profits and other people making a change for the better in areas like health, environment, food and politics, have pledged to go some form of vegetarian for the month of June.

There are weekday vegetarian aspirations, lunchtime only vegetarians, vegetarians looking to give up fish and a vegetarian who admits he can only begin the pledge after he returns from vacation in Hawaii.

From Good.is:

It’s fast becoming a well-known fact that eating less meat is good for the earth. Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, has said that “in terms of immediacy of action and the feasibility of bringing about reductions in a short period of time, [people eating less meat] clearly is the most attractive” way to fight climate change. Authors from Upton Sinclair to Jonathan Safran Foer have detailed the horrific animal cruelty and human-rights abuses associated with factory farming and meat processing. And most doctors will tell you that eating fewer animal products is simply better for your health. As beloved food writer Michael Pollan has summed it up, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

Last month’s attempt was a big FAIL for the staff, but like the good environmental stewards they are, they’re not about to let a setback excuse an entire month of harmful eating habits where no meal is questioned for its humaneness and impact on human health and the planet.

If June is your lucky month to go veg in some form or another, there are plenty of resources available. There’s the PCRM 21-Day Vegan Kickstart program, a PETA vegetarian starter kit, a Mercy for Animals Vegetarian Starter Kit and even Oprah has her own.
