TIFF 2007 - In The Valley Of Elah North American Premiere

Rachael Leigh Cook, actress best known for her role in the romantic comedy She’s All That and the “Your Brain on Drugs” anti-drug PSA,  recently sat down with Coco Eco magazine where she revealed she’s been going veg strong for well over a decade!

“Let’s see….it’ll be almost sixteen years. I’ll be thirty in October and I guess I was 14,15 when I started that. I was thrilled to find out that being a vegetarian was such a good, green thing to do. I heard people who were regular meat eaters produce a ton of carbon emissions a year. And that really blew my mind. Being vegetarian is not for everybody. I’m not a pusher of it. I do partake in some leather goods but I don’t feel too horrible about it because the animal probably got eaten.”

Coco Eco is like, totally eco, because they’ve got their magazine online!

Check it out and be sure to take a look at Rachael’s feature.

Gwyneth Paltrow matches up designer Preen and Kabbalah accessories at event

Gwyneth Paltrow’s website Goop is a hit and miss for the Veg Star.

On the one hand, we find way too many recipes for bird burgers showing up on there.

Then again, we have to forgive a gal who puts Vegenaise vegan mayo on a vegan B.L.T. sandwich with avocado.

Vanity Fair has taken the opportunity to mock Goop, and here are a few veg related highlights:

Do
“Many of you have asked if I have any tips on how to get leggings on quicker. My in-house leggings guru advises rubbing onto your legs a paste made from five spoonfuls of extra-virgin olive oil, turbinado sugar, and coarsely ground fair-trade coffee. If you have any further problems, then next week I’ll be recommending a truly great creative-leggings clinic.”

See

Vogues 1 Year Anniversary Party For 3.1 Phillip Lims LA Store - Arrivals

Grey’s Anatomy actress Jessica Capshaw recently talked about how she is becoming more and more eco-friendly these days, thanks to her husband, Christopher Gavigan, Executive Director and CEO of Healthy Child, Healthy World, a national non-profit organization devoted to children’s environmental health.

“I owe [my eco-consciousness] completely to my husband,” Jessica said.

“Christopher really understands the idea of living as naturally as you possibly can and being conscious of the effect that you have on your environment.”

However, Jessica isn’t interested in doing one simple move that would make a bigger impact than all the recycling, hybrid driving, and consumption reduction in the world would do by going vegetarian.

Although she does try to reduce her meat intake and keep it out of her two year old son’s diet, she says she can’t imagine life without an occasional cheeseburger.

“I’m a Midwesterner!” she said. “Not being able to have a cheeseburger once in a while would be torture!”

Ah, come on, Jess!

There’s not one soy, seitan, or otherwise vegetable protein burger you can’t find in Hollywood to suit your fancy?

Sounds like fellow cast mate Sandra Oh needs to include Jessica in an afternoon vegan restaurant outing.

Treehugger.com has written up a post titled “6 Green Celebrity Product Lines We Can’t Get Enough Of.”

Two of the product lines are produced by veggie stars Ed Begley Jr. and Stella McCartney.

Here is a description of the glass and window cleaner from Begley’s Best.com:

“Begley’s Best contains aqueous detergents and surfactants derived from natural feedstock, complexing agents and food grade certified colorant. It is certified as a biological nutrient by MBDC. ”

In addition, it says the glass cleaner “won’t streak or leave residues,” which might be a downside for you bird lovers (ever watched those commercials where the birds keep running into windows? Wait, not funny. Veg blogging social faux pas)

The all purpose cleaner contains “extracts of pine, maize, fermented sugar cane roots, and olive seeds.” Sounds like it smells heavenly.

Besides Stella McCartney’s clothing and shoe line, the vegetarian fashion designer offers CARE, a line of organic skin products that keep the parabens, petrochemicals, and artificial fragrances that send you to the allergist out.

Visit treehugger.com to find out who the other four celebrities with great green lines are.

Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood Hosts A Live Performance By Melissa Etheridge

“When I got my breast cancer diagnosis [in 2004] and realized that my body was out of balance, I started to look at what it needed to be in balance: good food, whole food. I started looking at the environment around me — and I realized we need similar ingredients to make our earth bodies run. We have neglected what it takes to make the earth run. When I got involved in Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” I really began to educate myself.I realized I couldn’t keep walking down the path of, “I can put anything I want into my stomach, and I’m going to live forever.” That’s not going to work, nor will it for the Earth.”

—-Melissa Etheridge, on the realization that both our bodies and our planet need only the healthiest ingredients put into them.

Melissa puts the best in her body by maintaining a vegetarian diet.
