Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes will play a staunch vegan named Mary Powell who earns the love interest of meat eating co-worker Louis Ives (Paul Dano) in the new film, The Extra Man. Since the two are both working for an environmental magazine, it’s only fitting that Louis reduce his meat intake too–heck, even if it’s only to win Mary’s heart.

When he’s not sneaking looks at Mary, Louis spends his time with Henry Harrison (Kevin Kline), an aging playwright who’s agreed to take Louis under his wing and rent him a room in his rundown apartment.

Farmville

Farmville

Farmville, a Zynga game offered as a Facebook and iphone app which simulates different aspects of farming, does not depict a true image of most farms, with its smiling animals roaming freely around green, idyllic pasture settings. But the game is getting into the greener side of things, offering users a chance to grow organic produce.

Farmville has partnered with Cascadian Farm organic food brand to teach users about organic farming, raise awareness in support of organic farmers and offer coupons for products.

Stella McCartney has designed another article of clothing to benefit the McCartney family Meat-Free Monday campaign, designed to encourage people to eat vegetarian once a week to lessen the impact raising livestock for food has on the environment.

This t-shirt features a print from Stella’s mother, the late Linda McCartney, who was also a champion of vegetarianism and more than likely responsible for the family adopting the ethics.

This Dish is Vegetarian reports the shirts will be launched this month in Stella’s store in Bruton Street, London. It is also available online for $215. A portion of the proceeds will support the Meat Free Monday.

“Vegetarian food is the most sustainable food in the world. We need to think about our future generations and the sustainability of the earth. Each and every individual consuming an Otarian meal makes a small but meaningful difference to the planet and all its inhabitants. And if one Otarian meal saves a kilogram of carbon emissions and grain, or a litre of water or oil, imagine the cumulative benefits of Otarian eating.”

Emily Deschanel

“I love Loyale! I wear their tops a lot, and they have great everyday pieces, which I just adore. Bahar Shahpar has beautiful skirts and dresses. Other labels I like are Organic by John Patrick (another great label for everyday pieces), Linda Loudermilk (the mother of green design can be very inventive), and EcoSkin for casual dresses.  For shoes, I love Beyond Skin, they have a wonderfully huge selection of shoes, I specifically love the vintage-y looking pieces. Olsenhaus is a new line I’m just loving. I’m obsessed with the holographic shoes! And then of course, Stella McCartney is the first big designer not to use leather. Her shoes are expensive but so worth it. They’re very well-made. Also, Cri de Coeur makes some great boots.”
