Project D Launch Event

Dannii Minogue says she’ll be applying Trilogy‘s Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil and The Everything Balm on her baby bump during pregnancy to keep her skin moist.

While rose hip oil is considered safe during pregnancy, not all oils, such as sage and rosemary are, so it’s always best to check with a medical professional and do your own research.

Trilogy is a cruelty-free company that does not test on animals, rather studies are “undertaken by happy human volunteers,” according to its website.

Fat Mike "NOFX" Credit: Squirrelza on Wikimedia Commons

Fat Mike, from the American punk rock band formed in San Francisco, NOFX, is one of the owners of the Thistle Hill Tavern in Brooklyn, New York.

Fat Mike once sang a song mocking vegetarians, and although Vegetarian Mumbo Jumbo contains phrases like, “I don’t feel bad about/Eating something that’s dead/So why should I be sad/For cows getting hit in the head?” he later became a vegetarian, citing that, “people change.”

Definitely for the better.

However, the menu at Thistle Hill Tavern co-owned by the NOFX musician has the “Fat Mike” burger being a beefy, grass fed one, despite the fact there’s a vegan burger also on the menu which comes with fried fennel.

Might this have been coined based on Fat Mike’s days of Vegetarian Mumbo Jumbo?

Or did Fat Mike make a change again for the worse?

Alicia Silverstone’s “Time Stands Still” Vegan Costumes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 in Actresses, Business, Fashion.

Time Stands Still Broadway Opening Night - Arrivals & Curtain Call

Alicia Silverstone dressed cruelty-free during her performance of Time Stands Still, and she recently took to her blog to discuss some of the companies the play’s costume designer, Rita Ryack, patronized to find outfits for Silverstone’s character, Mandy.

You may have heard of Alternative Outfitters, home to vegan shoes, handbags and other accessories.

Ryack shopped there, as well as Anthropologie, which she loved because of its use of natural fibers.

“I do worry about synthetics a little, though – because who knows what goes into their production?” Ryack said.

There are many synethic materials some advise against wearing, due to the chemicals involved in the production and finishing.

The best natural vegan fabric?

Cotton!

Ryack also liked using Etsy stores because they helped small businesses.

Stars Arrive To The Metropolitan Museum Of Arts 2010 Costume Institute Ball After Party

When Russell Simmons entertains company, he feeds them with the same goodness he eats.

Simmons told the New York Post he likes ordering vegan pizza from Viva Herbal Pizzeria in NYC.

“They have a veggie-based cheese,” Simmons said. “It’s not rice or soy cheese. It melts like crazy and it’s amazing. On 11th Street and Second Avenue.”

A call to Viva Herbal reveals they use the new kid on the block Daiya Cheese, which is manufactured by a company in Vancouver, and is free from many allergens you may find in other non dairy cheeses like soy, casein, gluten, egg, wheat, barley, whey and nuts.

It’s also vegan.

“It’s nice to have people come over,” Simmons added. “I’m not a big dinner kind of person. I like small stuff. We have popcorn and stuff.”

Common Celebrate Just Wright

Rapper and actor Common had his publicist take care of the daunting task of asking about ingredients for his lunch at Busboys and Poets for an interview with the Washington Post.

The Just Wright actor got a vegan pepperoni pizza with soy cheese and faux meat with lots of other veggies on a whole wheat crust.

“I think the way we choose to eat is definitely important,” he said. “I was vegan for a minute and I really commend those who can eat vegan. Then I was vegetarian. Now I eat fish, but I try not to eat too much dairy. I’m excited about this pizza.”

Common shared a story about when he did an ad for People with the Ethical Treatment of Animals that his family and friends saw on a billboard in New York.

“They put those ads up on this billboard in Brooklyn and my friends would ride past it and just laugh,” he said. “It did look kind of funny.”

Apparently, this vegan pizza at Busboys and Poets in Washington, D.C. is darn good, because Common ordered another one “to go.”

And these are some of the most veggie friendly waiters and bards in the district.

Besides “The Vegan” pizza with “vegan mozzarella, mushroom, onion, green and red peppers, vegan pepperoni with marinara or garlic and oil on a whole-wheat crust,” Busboys and Poets also offers vegan calzones, falafel, veggie burgers, vegan queasadillas and coconut tofu bites with plum sauce.

MacKenzie Green "Miss DC USA"

MacKenzie Green "Miss DC USA"

There were at least two publicly acknowledging vegans in the 2010 Miss USA pageant.

Neither won, but the fact that two of the ladies were open about their diet and lifestyle to the public still made a good impact on the movement.

MacKenzie Green, who represented as Miss District of Columbia, is a University of Miami senior that loves dining at Miami’s Lifefood Gourmet between her classes for her double major of sports administration and broadcast journalism.

“I love, love, love, love, love, love Lifefood Gourmet,” Green told NBC Miami. “It is an amazing place. It’s all raw vegan, and it’s right off of Calle Ocho. I love the raw vegan pizza. You never feel bad when all you’re eating is nuts, grains, avocado and diced tomatoes.”

“It’s my primo go-to place.”

Guess it’s safe to say Lifefood Gourmet is an option way before the dining hall or student commons.

For good old fashioned college junk food without the freshman 15, opt for the Mediterranean nachos, tortilla chips with Brazil Nut Hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, cilantro, parsley, olives and onions.
