Thumbs Up Cat Jimmy Is Tough Critic (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 in Animal Issues, Humor, Offbeat, Research + Science, Videos.

Anyone who’s ever owned a cat knows how picky the little creatures can be.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they gave you the “thumbs down” when they didn’t like the new litter instead of defecating outside the box?

Jimmy is a polydactyl cat, meaning he has a congenital physical anomaly that causes more than the usual number of toes on his paws. You may find more cats like him on the East Coast of the United States or in South West England.

Jimmy is one opinionated cat who puts the movie critics to shame.

We bet Jimmy gives thumbs up to spaying and neutering, shelter adoption and lots of love. Thumbs down to buying pets from shops and that annoying dog next door that jumps over the fence just to bark at him and poop in yard.

Jamie Oliver On Lamb Killing–More People Would Go Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 in Animal Issues, Chefs, Food & Drink.

Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver sparked controversy when he killed a lamb on television a few years ago. Part of the reason animal activists were so disturbed was because the animal had not been stunned before its throat was slit.

In hindsight, Oliver said he would never perform such an act again. But if every meat eater did that, there might be less of them.

From his interview with LA Times:

“I’ve probably ordered about 10,000 in my career. When you’re there in the village, and it’s their normal tradition, I actually felt quite shallow if I didn’t do it. Did I like it? No, it was bloody horrible. Will I do it again? Probably not.”

Rachael Ray Was Right–Pit Bulls Are Nicer Dogs

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 in Animal Issues, Chefs, Research + Science.

Rachael Ray

Rachael Ray said she was devoting her life to only owning pit bull dogs because she wants to prove there are no bad dogs, only bad dog owners.

“I just think it’s my mission in life to prove to people that there’s no such thing as an evil animal,” Ray said. “There are only evil humans.”

The Food Network chef now has data to back up her opinion, as a study conducted by the American Temperament Test Society showed pit bulls scored higher in tests that measure a dog’s ability to get along with people and other animals.

Emily Deschanel Pleads For Chimpanzees’ Retirement

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Emily Deschanel

Emily Deschanel has written to the director of the National Institutes of Health, asking him to return chimpanzees who were living at the Alamogordo Primate Facility in New Mexico before they were moved to an invasive research laboratory in Texas. The chimps were moved before the NIH agreed not to remove several dozen other chimpanzees from the sanctuary.

“I am thrilled that the National Institutes of Health has suspended plans to move the 186 chimpanzees who live at the Alamogordo Primate Facility to Southwest National Primate Research Center,” writes Deschanel.

“But I am concerned about the well-being of the 14 chimpanzees who were moved to Southwest before this decision was made. The aging chimpanzees were moved from near-retirement in New Mexico to a facility that conducts painful, invasive experiments on animals and has a long history of animal abuse.”

Waka Flocka Flame PETA Ad Preview (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 in Animal Issues, Male Singers, Videos.

Waka Flocka Flame‘s anti fur ad for PETA is set for release soon and Rumor Fix got an exclusive behind the scenes interview and footage from the shoot.

Basically, Waka is stripping down to nothing but a gold necklace, but Rumor Fix will only show the G-rated version. Darn those wholesome, family values-carrying reporters!

After researching what PETA stands for, Waka agreed that doing an “Ink Not Mink” ad that shows off his tattoos to promote not wearing fur was perfect way for him to make a statement about his love for animals, which includes a family dog that was named after his mother, Rose Antney.

“I don’t want anybody to beat my dog, scare my dog or whip my dog,” Waka said.

Denise Richards Kicks Off Pet Adoption Series For Access Hollywood Live

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 28th, 2011 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

Denise Richards

Charlie Sheen may be in the dog house, but his ex-wife knows real pups don’t belong  there.

Access Hollywood Live kicked off a monthly pet adoption series that will air during its one hour daily entertainment talk show.

Denise Richards helped launch the program last Friday, along with her friend Rascal, a tan-colored Chihuahua rescued from the Los Angeles area.

Each monthly segment on Access Hollywood Live will feature animals available for adoption. Utah-based Best Friends Animal Society will help viewers who are interested in adopting the animal or get them in touch with a shelter in their area where they can give a four-legged friend a home.

“Thanks to Access Hollywood Live, this monthly animal segment will surely help us save more lives and result in many animals finding their forever home,” Richards said.

The video featuring Richards on the kick-off segment can be viewed below.
