Premiere Of Dreamworks Pictures' "Tropic Thunder" - Arrivals

Alicia Silverstone‘s husband Christopher Jarecki temporarily took over her blog, The Kind Life, to write about their rescue dogs while Alicia was away on stage in New York.

All four of the couple’s dogs, The Pig, Lacey, Sampson, and Sweety are rescued, and Christopher shares a bed with The Pig, a bulldog.

“I know that some of you are aware of the benefits of rescuing dogs and avoiding breeders and pet stores,” writes Christopher. ” But if there are any of you who aren’t quite sure why rescuing is so much better than buying a dog, let me know and I can do a whole blog about it.”

Will there be a regular animal segment of The Kind Life coming soon, thanks to the hubby?

The U.S. Sportmen’s Alliance is at it again, targeting celebrities who are benefiting the Humane Society of the United States.

Last year, Carrie Undewood was criticized for donating proceeds from her American Idol elimination track “Home Sweet Home” to the organization.

This year, Ellen DeGeneres and Bluewater Comics are the bull’s-eyes.

The group wrote to the company that is producing Ellen’s Female Force comic book detailing her life, because a portion of its proceeds are going to the Humane Society as well.

“As the producer of this comic, we respectfully ask that you consider severing the relationship you have established with HSUS,” Alliance president and chief executive officer Walter P. Pidgeon wrote in an email provided to E! Online by Bluewater.

A Bluewater representative wrote back, saying it would not comply with the Alliance’s request.

“While we respect your right to disagree with the goals of The Humane Society of the United States,” a Bluewater rep said, “we do not share your concerns about the organization.”

Animal Planet has released the Whale Wars season 3 promotional poster featuring Australian director of Sea Shepherd, Jeff Hansen, who Ecorazzi thinks is a look alike for Pete Bethune.

Bethune was not available to pose for the poster though, as he is being held in Japan on charges of “trespassing, causing injuries, obstructing commercial activities, vandalism and carrying a weapon.”

Bethune was taken into custody after boarding ship Shonan Maru 2 in an attempt to make a citizen’s arrest of its captain.

“Unless one treats their kitchen like a biohazard lab, there can be cross-contamination of contagion. In meat-eating households, researchers have found more fecal bacteria in the kitchen–on sponges, dish towels, the sink, and counter surfaces–than they found swabbing the rim of the toilet. We shouldn’t have to cook the crap out of food.”

—-Dr. Michael Greger, director of public health and animal agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States. Dr. Greger writes in Chapter 9 of “Gristle,” edited by Moby and Miyun Park, as he discusses possible zoonotic diseases linked to animal agriculture.

Dr. Greger suggests that many human infectious diseases, measles, smallpox, avian influenza and SARS came from animals.

Boo Boo Stewart Wears Disclaimer–No Animals Harmed For Him

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 8th, 2010 in Actors, Animal Issues, Fashion.

Star Magazine Celebrates Young Hollywood

Boo Boo Stewart‘s closet must be full of nothing but vegan Vaute Couture wear.

Seen before in Vaute Couture’s “For the Love of Dog, Adopt,” t-shirt, days later Boo Boo was spotted at the Star Magazine Celebrates Young Hollywood Event wearing the “No Animals Are Harmed In The Making Of This Boy,” shirt.

The 100% organic cotton tee is a great disclaimer to tell what does and what doesn’t go into your vegetarian body.

These are available in both guys and gals at Vaute Couture.

Miyun Park and Moby

Miyun Park and Moby

Together at last!

Well, not really, but the editors of Gristle, Moby and Miyun Park answered a few short questions via email and their publicist to Washington City Paper.

While many previous interviews in the media have been made with only Moby, Miyun offers an additional perspective, one that hints her goal is to get everyone thinking about factory farming but not necessarily going vegetarian.

Take for example, the creatively worded question of “Gustatory preferences aside, is there any good reason for wealthy urbanites in industrialized nations to eat meat?”

Moby’s Answer:
Objectively, I cannot think of a good reason to eat meat — wealthy urbanite or not. It is an inefficient use of resources and more often than not, it leads to obesity, heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

Miyun’s Answer:
There is certainly no reason for anyone to support industrialized animal production and there is no reason for farmers themselves to support these intrusive systems. I encourage everyone to make informed choices at every meal.

Similarly, while Miyun applauds the work of Temple Grandin for easing the stress of slaughter animals, Moby considers the question “tricky” because although less suffering is desirable, a world where animals aren’t used for food period is his ultimate dream.

University Link Magazine‘s April 2010 issue is full of celebrations.

This month marks the publication’s 1st anniversary and they were lucky enough to snag a cover interview with Conan O’Brien, lover of the frozen peas.

Even better, the inside of the magazine contains an ad for peta2 featuring Sean Kingston and his dog Stella with the tagline,”Chill With Your Dogs, Never Chain Them.”

Described as an “edgy, fun socially conscious campus magazine written exclusively for college students by college students,” University Link Magazine has over 25,000 subscribers in 58 universities in Southern California.

With so many values formed during the college years, including going vegetarian and vegan, campus life magazines like ULM are a perfect outlet for spreading the message about animal rights.

Students who wish to combine their passion with a potential career may even opt to take advantage of several animal rights programs being developed at colleges, like the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship for Animal Rights program at Drury University or the Animal Law program at University of Virginia, both of which received endowments from vegetarian, activist and former “Price Is Right,” host Bob Barker.
