Meatless Mouthful–Jane Goodall Parenting Lessons Among Chimps

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 12th, 2013 in Animal Issues, Meatless Mouthful.

Jane Goodall

“I learned the importance of contact, affection and play. Reassurance. And the importance of distracting rather than punishing when the infant is too small to understand, and then gradually teaching rules. That was the great thing about being out in the wild, he could spill his food—it didn’t matter because it was the forest floor. I see so many parents upset when the child spills his milk and wants to make patterns with it on the table. He’s not doing something wrong, it’s important investigation and exploration.”

Jane Goodall, to Mommy Greenest, on how different life was being pregnant and raising a child while she studied chimps in Africa. Animals and pets have been suggested to have many positive impacts on children growing up. It sounds as if the same can be said for parenting.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson is quite fond of his tiger friend in The Hangover.

In real life, he’s just as enamored with the big cats and he recently said during an interview that he’s owned several of them and curls up with them in bed just like many do with a kitty from the shelter.

Only his kitty comes from a bigger shelter–at least the size of a sanctuary–and Tyson probably has to scoop much bigger things out of the litter box for it.

Below are a few highlights from the interview with Conan O’Brien:
