Quantcast Vegetarian StarJillian Michaels Says Horses Are “Biggest Losers” In NYC Carriage Rides

Jillian Michaels‘ harsh criticism and no excuses attitude has helped many motivate themselves to lose weight and reclaim their health on the hit NBC series Biggest Loser.

Now she’s playing just as tough, coming down hard on New York city officials who refuse to take horses out of the drawn-carriage industry.

In an ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Michaels poses with one of her favorite animals and urges fans, NYC residents and animal lovers alike to remember that when it comes to horse-drawn carriages, the animals are always the “Biggest Losers.”

“Join me in urging Speaker Quinn to stop blocking a program to phase out horse-drawn carriages, which many cities did long ago,” Michaels urges in the poster.

The animal rights organization has paid several thousand dollars to post these ads around the city, mostly in Quinn’s council district.

It’s part of a campaign to draw attention to the decision of Speaker Chris Quinn to block the phasing out of the industry.

Despite the statistics of injuries and fatalities related to the carriage industry, as well as documentation on the poor care of horses, representatives for Quinn’s mayoral campaign insist the industry is “well regulated.”

Many animal rights supporters have favored a plan by a group called NYCLASS. It wants to replace the carriages with vintage cars.
