In a hilarious video we can’t watch enough times, Santa Claus is seen making changes to his naughty and nice list after seeing so many anti-veg artifacts in one little girl’s home.

Leather, fur, dairy milk, McDonald’s and KFC are enough to make him revolt Public Enemy style.

Chuck D, who’s participated in some animal activism himself, would be proud.

Jamie Oliver Is A Biweekly Vegetarian. Advice For Aspiring Flexitarians.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 17th, 2010 in Chefs, Flexitarian, Food & Drink.

Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver has made himself an accidental vegetarian a few days a week because he can’t pry himself away from the salad bar.

“I’m probably vegetarian a couple of days a week, not on purpose but really just because I love eating vegetables and salad. I admire vegetarians, but I’m too much of a meat lover to ever become full-time vegetarian.”

Staunch vegans sometimes get upset by those who are willing to only give up meat part-time, but numbers do not lie. Two part time vegetarians in one household equals one full time one. And if 3-4 people ate veg twice a week like Jamie, that’s the equivalent of one person eating vegetarian every day of the week! Jamie’s love of salads works for him, but there are numerous ways to contribute to part-time vegetarianism or encourage your meat eating friends and relatives to do so. Here are a few ways you may not have considered to reduce your meat intake, improve your health, lighten your environmental footprint and reduce animal suffering.

Canadian Politician Trudeau Fur Card Is No Holiday For Animal Lovers

Trudeau Christmas Card

Trudeau Christmas Card

Liberal MP Justin Trudeau gave animal rights activists the equivalent to a lump of coal in their Christmas stockings when they got news of this holiday card picturing he and his family wrapped in clothing made from coyote fur.

Trudeau said he gladly supports Canadian products and “sustainable fur,” but insists no political statement was meant by what he called a simple Christmas card.

One member of PETA commented, saying, “I think it was disturbing, especially at this time of year in a greeting card. Where is the cheer in wearing the skins of animals?”

Angela Kinsey

“I don’t want to live in a world where I could say to my daughter, ‘There used to be turtles that swam in the ocean.’ Cut down on your use of plastic shopping bags because many end up in the ocean. If you’re at a beach where there are sea turtles, just let them be. And don’t throw trash out on the street near coastlines. Pick it up!”

Angela Kinsey from “The Office,” speaking about a new campaign she’s working on with Oceana to help conserve sea turtles, called Off The Hook.

It’s thought that sea turtles will often confuse plastic bags with their prey of jellyfish and try to ingest them, leading to partial or complete obstruction of the GI tract. The more plastic the sea turtle eats, the more likely it will die, but even smaller amounts can affect their health.

Defenders of Wildlife says fisheries are also a great threat to the creatures that can live up to 80 years old. The turtles will bite baited hooks or become entangled in lines or crushed by dredges.

Paris Hilton Urges Twitter Followers To Adopt Pets, Not Buy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 17th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Celebrity Tweets.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton set an example for potential pet owners recently when she urged her Twitter followers to adopt their next four legged friend.

“This Christmas if you’re thinking of getting a dog or cat, get one at your local animal shelter. Save a Life. Don’t Shop, Adopt.”

Especially pleasing is Hilton’s choice of words–getting and not giving a pet as a Christmas present.  The only time an animal should ever be gotten as a present is if the pet owner is rewarding him or herself.

Yum!

She also shares with the mag that she enjoys picking  up “leafy things” from either the farmers’ market or her personal garden.

Now’s a good time to locate your nearest market through the Local Harvest Directory, which also makes finding natural foods stores, local farms and other sustainable producers as easy as a click of the mouse.

Wayne Pacelle and Abbey

Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, is making headlines in the news for saying he thinks Michael Vick should be able to own another dog one day.

Restricted to a one line quote in most media outlets, Pacelle felt he didn’t get the chance to elaborate on his stance and recently took to the Humane Society’s blog to explain. No, Vick isn’t getting a dog anytime soon. Pacelle knows it’s not time yet and the courts won’t allow it. But, given the work he’s seen Vick accomplish, Pacelle thinks one day Vick can prove himself as compassionate and responsible. Some highlights from his post.

On Convicted Animal Abusers Owning Pets Again:
“It’s now a well-established principle within our movement that those convicted of malicious cruelty should not be permitted to have pets, at least for a number of years after a cruelty conviction, and sometimes even for life. That’s my policy for Vick, too. But the court did not decide to impose a lifetime ban, and based on the work for animals he has undertaken since his release from prison, I don’t believe he should be forever banned from adopting a dog for his two daughters.”
