Jillian Michaels "Master Your Metabolism"

Jillian Michaels "Master Your Metabolism"

Jillian Michaels, one of the coaches from The Biggest Loser, has a diet and health book, Master Your Metabolism: The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body!

The three themes for the book are Remove, Restore, and Rebalance, which reference to changing the foods that go into your mouth in order to achieve a healthier system (metabolism) that will enable you to lose weight.

Along with resources like shopping lists, tips for eating out and how to eat on a budget, Master Your Metabolism contains recipes.

This is an entire chapter featuring vegetarian main dishes, which is a plus, but it’s a little disappointing that Jillian didn’t choose to make these the focus of the recipes in her book, as she’s a pescatarian who will only eat sustainable seafood.

Most of the foods on her top 10 recommended list, however, are vegetarian–nuts, seeds, legumes, organic dairy, whole grains, fruits and dark, leafy vegetables.

Broadway Opening Of RED - Arrivals And Curtain Call

Alicia Silverstone recently discussed the idea of whether consuming yeast is healthy on her website, The Kind Life.

Yeast is full of B vitamins, something vegetarians may be missing if not supplemented, but are the tiny microorganisms a good way of getting them?

Silverstone called upon her good buddy, vegetarian chef and cookbook author, Christina Pirello, for some advice.

“Nutritional yeast is super yum and has a cheesy taste,” Silverstone wrote. “Lots of vegans get excited about it because they feel it is a good source of b-12, but superheroes and the macro community feel like it’s a bad guy, so I avoid it.?”

Pirello said that some might want to avoid yeast if they experience digestive issues, because it’s believed to inhibit digestion when it expands in the digestive tract.

Think of rising bread rising in your stomach, making a big, bloated ball out of you.

“That said, there is nothing wrong with yeast if you are healthy and strong and well… no reason not to use it,” Pirello says. “I use it in small amounts in some of the breads I bake to create lightness… usually in combination with a sourdough starter so I get the best of both worlds… the fermented benefit of sourdough but the lightness of yeast, plus sourdough allows me to use less yeast. But in truth, there is no problem with yeast if your health and digestion is strong.?”

Yeast and yeast containing foods should also be avoided if trying to overcome a systemic yeast (Candida) infection.

“The Cove” SeaWorld Prompts Dolphin Broker To Release Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 19th, 2010 in Animal Issues.

Tribeca Cinemas Presents A Screening Of The Cove

The Cove has inspired a dolphin broker to enter a new profession.

Chris Porter, who’s in the business of capturing dolphins in Solomon Island and selling them to aquariums, says both the Oscar winning film and the recent death of a trainer by one of the animals at SeaWorld prompted his decision to release his last 17 dolphins.

Porter, who’s been nicknamed as “Darth Vador” by animal rights activists, is questioning the educational value of captive animals in marine parks like SeaWorld.

“Are we really educating and providing the best representation of wild animals in an aquarium?” Porter told the National Post, adding that killer whales often become frustrated in unnatural environments and lash out in response.

Mr. Porter will start releasing the dolphins next month, and the creatures will be tracked with devices to follow up on their statuses.

Music Cares Man of the Year Dinner IHO Neil Diamond

Meatloaf won’t eat a similarly titled entree, so when he was served red meat at the Brit Awards, it was necessary to do some trading.

The Bat Out of Hell singer claims a reporter happen to be looking over his shoulder while the conversation was taking place, and when the story was printed, Meatloaf was the demanding diva of the night.

“I was sat at the ITV table with Frances, who works for me – we got there early and got the perfect seats. All of a sudden, they served red meat which I don’t eat. I didn’t say anything but Frances stood up and very politely – she’s a polite young lady – asked if it was ok if we traded it for a vegetarian meal.”

“All they did was make me sound like a…what’s the English word – prick? Yeah, a pain in the ass. But I never opened my mouth about it! If Frances hadn’t said anything then that plate would have sat in front of me and I would have scraped around for a vegetable or eaten a roll. They made me out to be some sort of stormtrooping diva and I was really upset with that. The little pricks.”

Since when does being assertive when you’re hungry make you a jerk?

Never let the fear of being looked at as bossy get in the way of getting something suitable to eat.

You’re not a stormtrooping diva, prick or asshole.

You’re just a vegetarian.

Earth Week is still going on until April 22 and several celebrities have shared their tips for being more eco friendly with Fox.

Vegetarians Lea Michele and Jenna Ushkowitz have tips and educational facts that will be provided to more than 2,000 radio stations to share during the month of April.

What does Michele do with her leftover orange peelings?

Well, she doesn’t throw them at co-star Cory Monteith.

“In the course of a year, if everyone in the U.S. composted their kitchen scraps instead of sending them to the trash, the organic waste diverted from landfills would cover the entire city of San Francisco,” Michele said.

Jenna Ushowitz says sign up for an audit.

Yikes, the IRS in your home?!

No, it’s just an energy audit, which can save you money.

“Did you know that 40% of our energy consumption and carbon emissions come from our homes, offices and schools? There are simple steps you can take to reduce your energy use, save your money and grow our economy. Speak to your local utility company about a free energy audit today.”

Anthony Bourdain Tells What Vegetarians Should Expect At Show

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 19th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Chefs, Not So Vegetarian.

Anthony Bourdain And Eric Ripert Visit SIRIUS XM

If you go to a live Anthony Bourdain show, don’t expect to see tofu being sauteed.

And don’t be afraid to be the butt of a joke.

The chef who once said it wasn’t polite to eat vegetarian when traveling and that “vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn” wasn’t throwing compliments to meatless eaters when he spoke to syracuse.com.

“I’m making some vegetarian jokes, that’s for sure. … I’m genuinely angered at the idea of vegetarian traveling — that’s the crux of my discomfort with vegetarians.”

But he did say he’ll have a conversation with some of them.

How thoughtful.

“I’m comfortable having conversations with vegetarians. There are vegetarians I can talk to.”

For example, Bourdain wants you to talk about killing animals for food cause he’s bored to death about being asked what’s the worst meal he’s ever eaten.

“I’d much rather have someone get in my face about animal rights than softball questions.”

Somebody’s gotta ask him why he ate chicken in India after meeting some and petting them.
