Janet Jackson Blackglama Fur Deal Makes PETA FURious

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 16th, 2010 in Female Singers, Fur.

Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson‘s latest business deal doesn’t make much sense at all.

The singer and actress has signed on to be the face of the American fur label Blackglama, the same company names like Liz Hurley have represented in the past.

Although she can’t get enough of vegetarian restaurants in Atlanta and finds it hard to choose between vegan cookies and soy milk, Jackson has no problem whatsoever putting the dead on the outside of her body.

Farm Rescue

Games involving vegetarian or animal issues make you feel less bad about sitting on the couch all the day long playing them.

Farm Rescue, a new application on Facebook designed by activist Mark Middleton (who’s created similarly themed tech projects like a USA animal slaughter rate widget) allows users to rescue virtual hens from battery cages while educating family and friends on the inhumane conditions these birds must endure in real life.

Mercy for Animals had the opportunity to interview Middleton. A few highlights:

Laura Linney

Laura Linney had the privilege of working with vegan actress Alicia Silverstone during the run of the play Time Stands Still. The old saying that a vegan rubs off on everyone must be true, because Linney revealed in the August 2010 print edition of Prevention magazine that Silverstone and her vegan cookbook, The Kind Diet, have changed her eating patterns.

“I love Alicia – she had an enormous influence on me. I burst with pride over her book [The Kind Diet]. And she said, “You don’t have to be one thing or the other, just figure out what’s best for you.” I had been so rigid in my thinking about if I was going to be a vegetarian, if I was going to be a vegan. I don’t have to put that pressure on myself. I”m just trying to learn what the best diet is for me.”

Mike Tyson

Oh, boy. Somebody tell Mike Tyson about the wonderful vegan candy bars available

During an interview with Details magazine, Tyson reveals he won’t even cheat for his formerly beloved Baby Ruth and that meat is the new poison.

Details: So you’re going to go the rest of your life without eating a candy bar?
Mike Tyson: Maybe so. I’m pretty fucking extreme.

Details: Not even a Baby Ruth?
Mike Tyson: Oh, man, that’s the best. Chocolate and peanuts. Nah. I ate, like, the tiniest piece of meat, and I woke up violently sick. It was vicious pain. I was throwing up. And I realized meat’s become a poison for me now.

Vegan Go Max Go bars have replicated all your favorite candy bars without the butter and milk.

“Alice + Olivia” Stacey Bendet Going To Hell For Fur Wearing Vegans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 15th, 2010 in Fashion, Fur.

Stacey Bendet

Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet won’t put anything except a plant in her mouth, but when it comes to designing her fashions, her ethics are a little less loose.

She’s aware of this contradiction and knows very well there’s a special place in hell for vegans who wear fur, where she’ll meet foxes, rabbits and chinchillas who will skin her alive, replacing her hide with bad, retro fashion from the 70s.

Pamela Anderson "All Animals Have The Same Parts" PETA

Pamela Anderson "All Animals Have The Same Parts" PETA

Pamela Anderson has been banned in her own home country!

When the vegetarian actress requested permission to debut her new PETA ad in the city of Montreal, officials gave her the thumbs down because of the partial nudity. The ad, shown here, reads, All Animals Have The Same Parts. Have a Heart. Go Vegetarian. Anderson’s “parts” are divided into breast, rump, ribs, legs, etc. showing where similar cuts of animal meat comes from.

Anderson will still be able to debut the ad Thursday evening, but it will be without the city’s blessing, as officials say it has hints of sexism in it.

“On one hand we’re working for an organization where we’re getting reminded on a daily basis that we should work in a sexism-free environment and that equality between men and women and the image of women is very important,” said Montreal film commissioner Daniel Bissonnette, who denied the permit.

Why is our approval rating of the Food Network rising? Hmm..There’s this reason. And that one. And now, one more vegan friendly company, Xan Confections, will be showcased on the nationally televised show, Unwrapped, this weekend on July 17.

Unwrapped is a show that traces the origins of food from the very first speck of flour, and Xan Confections will detail how chocolate expert and director of research and development Tracey Downey created unique dairy and sometimes gluten-free sweets, such as the non-dairy ancho chili caramel, containing Alderwood smoked salt and ancho chili flavoring. There’s also six flavors of the signature vegan Jewel caramels–coconut pecan, espresso almond, butterscotch snickerdoodle and bananas foster.
