The film, Forks Over Knives, examines the idea that most medical conditions like diabetes or heart disease can be prevented by avoiding animal products.

The film also follows patients who have been diagnosed with these types of diseases after putting them on a plant based diet.

Christina Pirello was one of the featured celebrity chefs at the 2010 Sun Wine Fest in Connecticut.

The whole foods vegan chef’s presence help offset the less veggie dishes by other chefs like Todd English, Michael Ginor and Ben Ford.

Ten years ago when Pirello wrote her first cookbook 10 years ago, Cooking the Whole Foods Way, there may not have been room at the chef’s exhibit for an organic, vegan chef like herself.

“Now everyone’s cooking with whole grains — I feel extremely vindicated,” she said told the Herald News. “It’s kind of cool to open a food and wine demonstration cooking with miso and tofu.”

“I’m taking vegan cuisine up a notch; paired with a lovely wine it allows us to be a part of the party.”

When pairing a wine with vegan food at home, don’t forget to check it against the vegan alcohol list.

Alexa Chung Sets Animal Unfriendly Fashion Trend

3.1 Phillip Lim - Front Row - Fall 2010 MBFW

She’s been great at setting trends for faux fur, but it would be even better if Alexa Chung got into pleather.

In January, Mulberry launched a bag named after Chung that, according to The Stylist, already has a wait list.

Mulberry chairman Godfrey Davis told the Evening Standard: “It’s clearly helpful for sales when someone like Alexa is carrying your bag.”

The Alexa bag from Mulberry looks gorgeous, but the “detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap” makes it less than ideal for a hip vegetarian gal.

Would it be possible to get Alexa caught by the paparazzi sporting a more cruelty-free bag?

Kim Barnouin, co-author of Skinny Bitch and founder of Healthybitchdaily.com, has been interviewed by the Phillyist.

Skinny Bitch contains some pretty colorful language, which surprise some.

But when it comes to health, sometimes you have to be frank–it’s better to have a dirty mouth than a dirty artery.

“It was a very conscious decision to write the book like we talk normally,” Barnouin explained. “Yes, it’s a little harsh, but our country is in a health crisis. There isn’t time anymore for hand-holding. We wanted to wake people up and make them sit up and take notice about what’s in their food and how it gets to their plate. People are always telling me that because of the language, they were able to learn a lot of information and actually retain it and understand it. We talk to readers like they are our girlfriends: yes, a little potty-mouthed, but meant to be funny, not insulting.”

Kim is completing a cookbook that is scheduled for release later this year.
